Probably a valid point, but for some reason I lost my ability to read well and added a lot more gamble to my game. I definitely have the ability to win at that level, but lost my perspective on other tourneys. In those 26 starts (for the 50r), I won once, finished 6th once and finished 4th once. I also cashed a few other time. The run from 0 to +$2,000 to -$1000 at the $100 at the $100 SnGs probably didnt help as well.I'm guessing it was mostly a discipline problem.in all honesty?i would consider it unlikely that somebody can win at those levels and post something like this. no offense to op. -
This is a very good point. I am not playing with life money, so maybe that is what makes it somewhat different for me. I assign a certain amount of value to my time and I think that biased me toward playing in larger buyins once I had the bankroll to "support" it. I was successful at the 30 + 50 SnG level and initially was successful at the 100 SnG level, but hit a rough patch which hurt my BR. Additionally, I then decided that since I was doing well with lower rebuys and the 70KOs that I could take shots at the bigger tourneys (500 entries to the Sunday Brawl through satellites anyone?). In general it was poor play and BR management that cost me. That is why I was asking my original question regarding the best way to grind out a bonus. Has anyone done it with $30 SnGs or would I be better off playing a lot of $10 ones? It's not a huge deal if it's more for recreation than anything else. The biggest problem though is that you're often going to be playing with "life money" instead of "poker money" when you need to redeposit after your shot-taking goes badly. For a lot of people that can impact how they play the game. -
I wasn't originally talking about variance. Just that 8k would be enough to play a 1r + 1a $50 tourney.Huh? All I'm saying is that I don't care if it's $1 buyin tournies or $100,000. You need a lot more than 26 tournies to even out variance. If someone luckboxed their way to a top 3 finish and then busted first in the next 25 tournies they would still have a ridiculous good ROI -
With an $8k roll? The 50r was 1+1 for a max outlay of $150 and my ROI in it was 189% in 26 starts. I'm not saying I'm going to play them now, but $150 is less than 2% of my BR at that point.Bankroll management...you should not be playing 30r and 50r with a roll that small...but I'm sure the regs in those tourneys don't mind you doing so. -
Thank you for the extremely helpful post. Since I am asking for advice about how to start over, I didn't really think it belonged in the BBF.No advice but BBFIDTS? -
All,I just wanted to get some advice, as I am starting my online poker career over. I'll give a little bit of background. I have played for over 12 years and was playing stud online as far back as 1999 (Paradise Poker - home of the eternal disconnect). In June I decided to really get my game back together and try to make some money playing online. Over the years, I have made probably $3-4K, but could never seem to really get on a roll. I would then get bored and take my BR out and start over months later. In June I deposited and started playing MTT and some small $10 SnG. The SnG did not go well, but the MTT did very well and I was up $8k in the first 3 months, so I cashed out $4,500 to make sure I held back some profit. After that, I started playing the SnGs a lot better and did a lot of studying for them. I have had pretty good results at the $30 and $50 level. Then came the downswing and it started with 2 big (relatively speaking) cashes. I finished 9th in a 30r, despite starting the table as the chipleader and losing 3 consecutive hands to a 4 flush all-in, a set over set (QQ v. AA) and then I busted on my K,J v 10,2. My payout was $660, the winner got over $8k.Next came my busto in a 50r. I was in 4th out of 6 at the final table and the big stack was playing everything. I of course get KK and shove on his standard 3bb raise. He insta calls with A,J off and I lose after a flop of A,K.8 to a turn 10 and a river Q. I get $1,150, the winner gets $5k and change. After this I started playing horribly and was only able to make some really minor cashes. Eventually lost the remaining $3,500 I had in my account and now I am back at zero (bad play and bad luck in about a 50/50 ratio).I have taken a break, studied, and am now going to re-deposit. Does anyone have any advice for me? My plan was to play the 33+3 and 55+5 turbo SnGs to grind out my deposit bonus. Has anyone else successfully done this? Any and all comments appreciated, sorry this was so long. Thanks

To answer everyone's question, I thought about it for a minute and then called. He turned over AA and it held up. I'm guessing that I just ran into the one good hand that he actually had. He just had the appearance of someone who was trying to run over the table (gold chains, pinkie rings, long straggly hair - he looked like a gambler you would see in a movie) and I highly doubt his cards were running that hot. In any case, I couldn't see how I fold here, I just wanted to know if anyone else had a different opinion.
-
I guess I was wondering if there would be any excuse here for not calling.

This was a live $60+$15 tourney that had played about 20 hands. The Hero had completed the SB once and then folded the flop and folded the BB after the flop. The Villain had been playing roughly 50% of the hands, with lots of bets and raises that looked like steals.Blinds are 25/50Button Villian (t3200)BB Hero (t1800)Preflop: Hero is BB with AQs (spades)All fold to villain (button), villain raises to 150, hero calls.Flop: (t325) 5s, 7h, Qc (2 players)Hero checks, Villain bets t250, Hero raises to t750, Villain pushes all-in.Pot is t2,225Hero has t900 leftWhat would you do here?

Thank you to everyone for helping me the with posting etiquette, I should have known better. I have the following situation that I would like to get some opinions on in a .50 NL game. The villain had been sitting at my table for about 50 hands, on my immediate right, and had been playing pretty solidly. He was trying to steal rather frequently from the button and small blind. (VP$IP = 18.75, TA A, attempted to steal 55.56%, PFR% = 17.50). He attempted again from the SB and I called with A,3 clubs, flopped 2,4,5 and busted his queens. He steamed for a couple more hands and then the following occurred. UTG was new to the table and I wasn't concerned with his small amount of money. I think I've counted my own mistakes, but am curious to see what other people would have done in this situation.ThanksFull Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed) Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver Cards)Hero ($92.65)MP3 ($19.85)CO ($21.25)Button ($9.25)SB ($17.70)BB ($50)UTG ($9.25)UTG+1 ($25.60)MP1 ($53.75)Preflop: Hero is MP2 with

I want to start this by thanking everyone on here. I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks as I am new to FT. I will start this by saying that I generally play 1/2 NL on two other sites, but have decided not to do that here b/c I am only depositing $600 to get the full bonus. That being said, I think I am having a difficult time adjusting to the play at this limit. I'm getting my money in good and taking some really bad beats and then I'm making mistakes not being able to put someone on a hand. I'll give you the case in point.I've been playing at a table with the the villain for about 50 hands. He is playing fairly solidly (VP$IP=18.75, TA A), stealing blinds, and seeming to have some trouble getting away from hands. He's already stolen my blinds about 3 times when the following hand happens.FullTiltPoker Game #4810997697: Table Streamer - $0.25/$0.50 - No Limit Hold'em - 18:01:59 ET - 2008/01/10Seat 1: PaidHax0r ($40.25)Seat 2: possborus ($19)Seat 3: Davidmb88 ($19.50)Seat 4: hugeripkenfan ($17.05)Seat 5: dirty-muffs ($19.50)Seat 6: Pimpsempire ($7)Seat 8: raggles ($20.95)Seat 9: craftylefty18 ($51.60)craftylefty18 posts the small blind of $0.25PaidHax0r posts the big blind of $0.50The button is in seat #8*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to PaidHax0r [Ac 3c]possborus foldsDavidmb88 foldshugeripkenfan foldsdirty-muffs foldsPimpsempire foldsraggles foldscraftylefty18 has 15 seconds left to actcraftylefty18 raises to $2PaidHax0r calls $1.50*** FLOP *** [5s 2d 4s]csaf4818 sits downcraftylefty18 has 15 seconds left to actcraftylefty18 bets $3csaf4818 adds $10PaidHax0r raises to $7craftylefty18 raises to $49.60, and is all inPaidHax0r calls $31.25, and is all incraftylefty18 shows [Qs Qd]PaidHax0r shows [Ac 3c]Uncalled bet of $11.35 returned to craftylefty18*** TURN *** [5s 2d 4s] [4c]*** RIVER *** [5s 2d 4s 4c] [As]craftylefty18 shows two pair, Queens and FoursPaidHax0r shows a straight, Five highPaidHax0r wins the pot ($77.50) with a straight, Five high*** SUMMARY ***Total pot $80.50 | Rake $3Board: [5s 2d 4s 4c As]Seat 1: PaidHax0r (big blind) showed [Ac 3c] and won ($77.50) with a straight, Five highSeat 2: possborus didn't bet (folded)Seat 3: Davidmb88 didn't bet (folded)Seat 4: hugeripkenfan didn't bet (folded)Seat 5: dirty-muffs didn't bet (folded)Seat 6: Pimpsempire didn't bet (folded)Seat 8: raggles (button) didn't bet (folded)Seat 9: craftylefty18 (small blind) showed [Qs Qd] and lost with two pair, Queens and FoursAs you can guess, he was flaming pissed and reloaded. Thanks for the help. Any opinions on the best way to clear it?If I'm not mistaken, your bonus is split down in to 10 different payments, which will have some relation to the amount of FTP you earn.Based on personal experience, I cleared a $180 bonus in about two months playing 0.05/0.10 - 1 table, then 3. At your playings, I'd expect you to clear $600 in about two months. This is all only what I'm somewhat guessing, though, so I wouldnt rely upon it too much, but at least you have some idea.=] -
Hello all,I have enjoyed reading this forum and would like to get some opinions about a couple of things.1. What is the best way to grind out the new player $600 bonus? I have been playing 25NL x 4 and that seems to be working ok. Does anyone else have a better suggestion? I generally play 1/2 NL if that makes a difference, but I am only putting $600 on here right now.2. How do they calculate your bonus redemption from the FT Points? Does the number change if I have Rakeback?3. Other than PokerTracker, what are some of the better tools to use on FT? I use GT+, does anyone else have some good suggestions? Thanks for the help and all of the informative postings.
