  1. You really think this is a cooler? That makes me feel better. I am hard on myself maybe. I don't think of this as a bad beat, I was just trying to frame a question using a real life example - that is, how can we avoid overvaluing our hands. How is this a bad beat when the best hand preflop did win? I had my reasons for that small raise, but of course I know that is an invitation to action should I not get reraised. I rely a lot on bets to know where I am at, cause my reading skills are marginal right now. Therefore, I prefer to get re-raised in this situation, knowing my table image and
  2. I agree. The 1/2 is probably where you should stay. You get frustrated getting called by people with open ended but believe it or not some guys can make some sick reads on you the higher you go in stakes, and depending on the money they stand to make if they hit, they will call. You have to adjust to this, keep your bets low. I notice you did a LOT of "ALL IN" action.....maybe that's not the answer. Let them control your game in those moments and practice your reading skills. Nobody will put YOU all in on a draw, just remember. Let them call small bets and not get there. If they hit it
  3. Some of my biggest loses have been very bad situations, like set over set, higher straights, bigger boats, etc. Usually, hands where I would pretty much assume were 100% in my favor, and I would be willing to put my entire life savings on, turn out to be the 2nd best hand - and as we all know, you lose everything in front of you in those situation (one in partiuclar is a nut flush vs. straight flush, that one always hurts). The table consolation (I play B&M's in Los Angeles not online) usually goes something like this: "oh man that sucks, no way you were getting away from that one though
  4. Acid Night: if you continue to fold Q8os in the small blind getting well over 5:1 on your money, well, my hats off to you. I think that's technically a "nit", no? [edit] no offense actually, cause I do understand the concept of folding junk from out of position - but the next level of poker play is somewhere in between where you would call Q8 with 5:1Now, if you are saying to poker newbies "fold", okay. But consider a newbie needs to learn to play odds, as most serious new player actually fold the best hand too often! I have hardly ever met a new poker player who was serious about their ga
  5. You guys throw away Q8os in the small blind? That's news to me. I dont' play online for cash, but I play at various B&M's in Los Angeles. If you're that concerned to call $25 into that pot with Q8os then maybe you should play lower stakes or something. Daniel is right. One reason I look up to players like Daniel is their ability to play these hands, see a flop, and outplay their opponents.... Also @ Daniel: your television personality suggests you can be a POW sometimes with hands/boards like this. So, great fold - likely this is a value bet with any number of hands that have you beat,
