  1. Use the same type of philosophy that DN used with his mother when he was younger. Take the average of your last 5 outings and use that:Outing #1: +$1000Outing #2: +$1500Outing #3: -$1200Outing #4: +$2000Outing #5: -$1000Outing #6: +$500Outing #7: +$2500 For instance, if someone asks you how much you made after outing #5, you'd say you made $460If someone asks you how much you made after outing #7, you'd say you made $560That way you'll still be telling... a version... of the truth but won't upset them by having to say you lost $1200 if they don't understand the swings that are a part of the g
  2. When you first make the switch, I recommend continuing to play your normal tight approach when in early and mid position, and when you're in the blinds. Only loosen up when you're in late position (in the cutoff or on the button). This will make the initial transition much easier as you'll have position in every "loose" hand that you play. Eventually, you'll need to loosen up in the other positions as well, but when just starting out I think the above rule will make it much easier for you.
  3. Really? Oh - thanks for clearing that up!
  4. Yes, HORSE is an acronym:H: Hold 'EmO: OmahaR: Razz (Omaha hi-lo)S: Seven-Card StudE: Eights-or-Better (Seven-Card Stud hi-lo)
  5. I have another question - does the big game have a rake? I'm assuming it does, but it is the same percentage as for lower stakes (about 5%)? If so, the casinos must love you guys 8)
  6. If you flip over your cards BEFORE calling the bet, you have folded. At least, these are the rules at most major B&M tables - you cannot show your cards on purpose before the end of a hand.
  7. Maybe missingTexass isn't so far off... I remember when I went down to Vegas and played in the big stakes game for a couple hours I took tons of money from the likes of Brunson, Ivey and DN. I was bluffing them out with 6-high, seeing them stay in on draws after pot-sized bets, and basically just completely outplaying them. I was up over 2 million dollars after just 3 hours of play and they were all down............ then I woke up....
  8. On the topic of sets vs. trips, I know a lot of you are going to disagree with me, but I'm 90% sure that sets and trips are synonymous. If you have AK in your hand and the flop comes down as AA2, you have a set. Saying you've hit your set would be incorrect because you can only hit your set if you have a pocket pair, but you have made a set.You do not need a pocket pair to get a set.
  9. Well damn... apparently to be a top NLHE tourny player your last name must begin with a letter in the top half of the alphabet.I'm screwed!
  10. I seriously hope it's just a normal deck of cards and the buyer gets screwed 8)
  11. Heres's my guess:Hand One - AQ Hand Two - KQ Hand Three - KQ Hand Four - AA Hand Five - AQ Hand Six - AK clubs Hand Seven - You have 88 and raise Hand Eight - AQHand Nine - K9Hand Ten - JJHand Eleven - TT Hand Twelve - AQ
  12. Hey guys,I'm planning on entering one of the $1000 buy-in NL tournies on the last couple of days. I just had a couple questions I was wondering if anyone knew the answers to:1) Is it safe to wait until I arrive in Las Vegas a day or two beforehand to buy my entry fee, or should I buy it ahead of time to be absolutely safe?2) Is there anything weird about this tournament that I should know about? Should I be prepared for anything different from a smaller buy-in tournament at a local casino? Thanks for any help you can provide....
  13. I have to disagree with this. If the player is any good at all, I find that more often than not if someone is counting out their chips, they have a weak or drawing hand and are trying to intice you to check
  14. Move up here to Canada... the tax haven :)Actually, I have a related question... what happens if I win a big tourny in the states. Do I have to declare that because I won it in the US or am I exempt because I'm Canadian???Thanks...
  15. http://www.chapters.indigo.ca is another optionGO CANADA GO! 8)
  16. I believe you played it correctly. If he had 99 and you hadn't slow-played, you were going to lose anyway. So, your only concerns are TT, KK, T5 or K5. The odds of him having any of these hands are slim. When you flop a monster like that, I often like to slow-play to try to let people catch their hands (2 pair, straight, flop, etc). I don' t think you did anything wrong.
  17. I agree... it sounds like you did a great job and remembering what he's done in the past and using to your advantage. Beginners NEVER fold QQ, pros do.... there's a reason....
  18. Jordan, I'm sorry to say that you are mistaken :!: From dictionary.com's definition of celebrity:1. A famous person. 2. Renown; fame.Well, I'd certainly say that Danny fits both of those categories! Who says a celebrity needs to entertain? Even if that were the case, Danny DOES entertain now that poker is on TV.Just my 2 cents....
  19. rusmac, glad to see that there's someone else out there who, like me, prefers the PartyPoker/EmpirePoker interface more than PokerStars!
  20. I'm definitely going, but I'm not entering the main event since my bankroll doesn't come close to justifying that yet! I'll be entering the $1000 NL tourny... wish me luck!
  21. The basic consensus is that you want to be VERY careful betting in to a 3-way pot when 1 guy is already all-in and there is no side pot. Basically, you don't want to drive someone out of the pot if there's even a slight chance that they could eliminate this other player. The only times that you want to bet are on the river when you have the nuts (or second-best hand), or if there is a sizeable side pot.The odds of you beating the all-in but being worse than the 3rd player who will fold to a bet of yours is simply NOT WORTH possibly not eliminating the guy who's all-in.Having said all of this, s
  22. My friend and I are having a... spirited... discussion and I was wondering if you guys could mediate this dispute and provide your insight...?For reference, let's suppose that we have played in the following 3 tournament:$10 + 1 tourny: no payout; Net Profit = -$11; ROI = -11/11 = -100%$20 + $2 tourny: no payout; Net Profit = -$22; ROI = -22/22 = -100%$100 + $10 tourny: $330 payout; Net Profit = $220; ROI = 220/110 = 200%My friend, let's call him Mr. Stupid, feels that the overall ROI should be calculated as follows:Net Profit / Total Buy-in Amount= ( -11 - 22 + 220 ) / (11 + 22 + 110 )= 187 /
  23. Any idea what the deposit bonus is over there? I just checked out their web site, but I couldn't find any information on this....
  24. Hey guys!Just a quick question. I currently play primarily on EmpirePoker, but the $10 20-player PL Omaha hi-lo tournies take a long time to fill up. Furthermore, no other PL Omaha hi-lo tourny ever fills up.Any suggestions on other sites that have more regular multi-table PL Omaha hi-lo tournies? Thanks a ton,Azzy666
