shortstacked: at what point is it all in or fold?
Azzy666 replied to ....Ian....'s topic in General Poker Forum
My rule of thumb is that I need to be able to raise pot after the flop. So, if the pot is going to be $100 after I put my chips in, I need to have at least $100 leftover. If I don't have that much left, then I'll push preflop or fold and wait for a better opportunity. This of course changes slightly if I'm on the bubble or already in the top 10 and someone else is going to be blinded out next turn. -
Dude, when you fell out of the ugly tree, did you hit every branch on the way down? Ugh!

Slightly off-topic, but I must pipe up and say that one of my favourite works in scrabble is QOPH. I always seem to get stuck without a U or a blank and that word is sweet!

is there a site where this type of info is posted in chart form? or posted in a way as to be easily readable?thanks.Yep, here you go:http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_odds/

Odds of Mike having hit a set are pretty small. So, assuming Greg can rule that out, I think he made a fairly smart play. Winning what was already in the middle (~$25,500) would have added 50% to his remaining chips (~$54,000). That's a fair chunk of change that he didn't win out on.He's putting a lot of pressure on Mike. Even if Mike has top pair, that's a very hard call to make. As a result, most of the time, his opponent is going to fold. That's what makes this such a great play. Sure, when his opponent calls, most of the time it will be a coin flip. However, the massive fold equity here de

Ok, I just ignored it at first, but now I'm intrigued. How exactly do you play Liar's Poker?

more profitable, tight or loose games?

Smash dude, I don't always agree with you but fuck if you don't make me laugh! lol -
Fair comment. However, no one has mentioned that Mike didn't like Raymer very much and was drooling at the opportunity to knock him out of the tournament 8)
-
Well, Mike made the right play if all he put Raymer on was overcards. As it turns out, Raymer also had the flush draw.Well now, let's assume that Mike knew exactly what Raymer had. Well, in that case, he was still correct to call. He wasn't going to die off if he lost (in fact, chipwise he'd still be competative) and he was getting pot odds to call. The pot was approximately $79,500 after Raymer's allin:Antes: 10 * $300 = $3000Small Blind: $1500Preflop Bets: 2 * $7000 = $14,000Mike's Postflop Bet: $7000Raymer's All-In: $54,000TOTAL: $79,500Now, Mike is being asked to call say $47,000 into a $79

How much have you made since you started?$6,500: $5000 online and $1500 live (these figures are both only from the last 14 months since I've been keeping track - I may have made another ~$200 before that, but I wasn't at all serious then....) What's the most you made in one night?$1350 online: In my first >30 player tournament online, I came 1st out of 197 players $340 live: Came 4th out of about 65 in a rebuy tourny (I rebought once at the end of the rebuy session and overcame the huge chip disadvantage)Most you lost?$55 online: I've only bought into one more expensive tourny, but I ca

interesting proposition -- advice needed

If I had the aces, here would be my strategy:Raise every opportunity until he reraised me. Then call from then on (unless preflop, then obviously reraise him). The only other exception is if he raised or re-rased on the flop but checked on the turn, then I might raise/re-raise him on the river depending...I don't think you should automatically check the flop and give him another free card as you're going to be ahead at least 75% of the time... -
If that's the case, you have a BIGASS chip lead because you have 8 million chips! ha ha ha ha

leading out with the best against multiple draws?
Azzy666 replied to gadjet's topic in General Poker Forum
I would have played it the same except that I would have reraised again on the flop to make people with drawing hands have to pay more. -

I personally would LOVE to see a session of PLO8 8) -
Congrats on your big win suited_up - well done!!! 8)

I think you have to call this. The blind structures in single-table sit-n-go's simply go up too fast to wait for a better hand than mid-pair. He's short stack so he could easily be bluffing, have Ax (where x is smaller than 7) or have a lower pair and in any of those circumstances you'd be pissed you folded...

Well, I wouldn't say it's an easy fold, but it is a fold you should make 8) -

folding aces preflop (a supersatellite question)
Azzy666 replied to Foulky's topic in General Poker Forum
If you have 30% of the chips, let's assume the chip lead has 42% of the chips - fair? Worst-case scenario is the other 7 all have 4% of the chips. As such, I still would find this an easy fold. The odds of the button winning the hand AND the small blind beating you could be as low as 1% and I'd still fold. The reason is that you should be able to sit there with check/fold on and it would be EXCEEDINGLY unlikely that all of the 4% stacks survive long enough for you to blind out considering you have 8.5x each of their stacks....Just my opinion.....
