  1. You don't need lammers this year, you can buy in directly.
  2. More like 1/60,000 No I think it is 1 in 30,000.... the odds of the second guy getting aces are (2/50)*(1/49) = 1225.Remember, there are two aces remaining when he receives his first card, and one remaining when he receives the second.I stand humbly corrected.
  3. Crazy! The odds of having aces are about 1/225.The odds of another specific person having aces are 1/50 * 1/50 = 1/2500.So, if you're at a 9-person table, the odds of any other player having aces are 1/2500 * 7 = 7/2500.Thus, the odds of someone else having aces when you have aces at a 9-person table are:1/225 * 7/2500 ... or...0.00125%
  4. Their super-aggressive style is mainly in their choice of starting hand requirements. Many people will only play hands that have an ace, 2 face cards, suited connectors or pairs. Super-aggressive players will play ANY two cards if they feel they are in a good position. To these super-aggressive players, good position means that no one has opened the pot yet and/or they are in late position (meaning they will get to act after players in subsequent rounds).
  5. What fatman is trying to say is that even if the other guy had AJ, aces_over still had him beat because he had 2 paid: jacks and threes. Understand now?
  6. He went all-in because his all-in bet was less than the size of the pot (thus it wasn't an overbet). He doesn't want to check because he doesn't want anyone else to get a higher 2-pair or a straight on the river....
  7. It wasn't a tough beat because he had you beat when you moved all in. It would have been a beat if you'd moved all in on the flop :)Regardless, I think you played it fairly well. I would have done pretty much the same thing...
  8. Events #43 and #44 are $1000 NLHE tournaments. As I understand it, there is no plan to continue the next day. I've inquired about this because I plan on playing in one of them, and apparently they're just going to keep playing until it's over. They expect it to run from noon until 5am.It is not completely unreasonable to assume that the final table will be established after round 13 (1am). I believe it is also reasonable to assume that the tournament can be concluded shortly after 5:30am when the blinds are $4000/$8,000 (with a $1000 ante). With only $200,000 chips in play, the tournament won'
  9. Actually, you can never force someone to show their losing hand. You can always ask, but the person is never required to show. This rule is for both cash games and tournaments.

  11. I think a much better solution would be to only allow entries for people who registered before the WSOP pool was announced. It doesn't matter how many times you've posted, it should matter when you registered. As dmonkeypoker pointed out, we shouldn't be rewarding people who have 120 posts, 115 of which were flames.
  12. Socrates is wise 8) I've also heard that they expect to max out all NLHE events so I'd definitely recommend paying the full amount right now.I'm heading down, but not for that event. It's my first year as well and I'm PUMPED!
  13. You're missing a very important point: pot odds. He doesn't necessarily have to be the favourite to call a bet. However, that being said, when your tournament life is at stake and you're on the bubble, it would be nice to be the favourite. How much does the small blind have left? That makes a HUGE impact on this decision. If he has less than 9k left, I'd fold. Otherwise, I'd call.
  14. That worked beautifully, thanks mk. I ended up ordering from amazon.ca - yay!
  15. Yeah, I was surprised at first. However, now that I've had time to think about it I can totally see where she's coming from. The Conservatives are a very scary party. Many of their members have openly made statements that are sexist, racist, homophobic, etc. These aren't isolated incidents, but disturbingly regular events. You only need to look at their reactions to Belinda for examples. They've called her (a ditz, a wh0re and a dumb blonde). On top of that, the Conservatives are now allying themselves with the Bloq Quebequois. I don't know what "genius" came up with this idea, but that was poli
  16. If you live in the west end, there's a $100 NL texas tourny that happens every few weeks at the Oz Dome. Contact Paul at ozdome@ourbrisbane.com for more info...It's really well organized with around 6 tables and monitors showing the blind levels and time remaining.
  17. No, you're confusing the issue further. That example refers to a word in which there are two acceptable methods of pronouncing it.Now, it's true that some words have multiple definitions. However, those definitions usually describe different ways in which the word can be use, not conflicting ways. "Nuts" cannot both mean "best hand at the moment" and "best hand now and forever". Only one of these definitions can exist, and it is not the later one 8)
  18. Oh yeah, and this link doesn't say anything about how to use the term "nuts" on the flop or turn, it only refers to the river.
  19. I'm sorry Rob, but you're mistaken. We're not talking about strategy here, we're talking about terminology. The "nuts" is the best 2 hole cards you can have if the hand were to end right then. As akishore pointed out, the stone cold, mortal or pure nuts refers to 2 hole cards that are currently the best and will remain the best for all remaining cards.
