Best Advice For A Cash Game Player Going Online
violaman replied to OrzyVibe's topic in General Poker Forum
If you are set on playing tourneys buy Harrington on Holdem and read it like your bible. Though since you have your experience in live cash games, I reccommend hopping into that scene because they are very juicy on almost every site. I also echo the words of NoNeck in that Bankroll management is what its all about. From a guy who has learned it the hard way and succeeded in online poker, enough for my purposes atleast, you must must must not gamble. Anytime you are playing stakes above your roll you are gambling, not playing solid poker. Also, one strategy not easily employed is dropping -
Unfortunately this strategy isn't always so great because a set is usually a favorite against a wrap. Of course if you have wrap +flush draw then things are different, and if your opponent is one who pushes top two pair hard this strategy is viable. Try to get an idea of who you play with can lay down a descent hand, this will help you decide whether to jam for the steal on a draw or to take one off.

Of course you can post negative comments about Daniel Negreanu in Daniel Negreanu's forum, but would you also 1) sing Christmas Carols in Mecca, 2) wave an American flag in Iran, 3) present an opposing view in the Bush White House 4) stick that dildo up your craphole?Free speech is promoted , but your posts can still burn in flames.

I was born in New Orleans, but don't go to Louisiana to play poker, go someplace that is hopping with casinos so that the competition forces better benefits for poker players. I'd suggest Atlantic City but I haven't flown in there so I don't know how close it is to an airport. If you are goin to use a 600 ticket you might as well go somewhere cool, so make it AC or Los Angeles if you can.good luck.ps. that sentence and the post sentence flaming were vintage FCP material.

Fcp Heads Up Poker League (modified)

This tourney sounds awesome, but I would really like to entertain some discussion as to the structure of the later matches, especially the sweet sixteen and up. I think these ought to have much slower structures or more chips, maybe even create a private event to be used exclusively for these matches. It would suck to be in the final match and have it turn into a WPT-esque crapshoot. -
I like Phil Ivey's philosophy on hitting and running: If you are winning, you play better, so don't leave unless the game has become much worse in terms of EV. When you are losing you should keep playing if the game is good and you are playing well, but keep in mind you play worse when losing. For the rest of the poker world who hits and runs, F**kem, they aren't good enough to be winning players and can't compete at the level of the game they sit at. Just as a previous poster said, if they don't get that "hit" they don't run, they just dump. Don't fall victim to this philosophy just for t

I think there's one word we have for this: UGGUMS

I don't think I have local access to any of the newspapers that syndicate them, is there any place online where they can be found?

Thank god, some real motha_****in chips

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll insist upon shuffling above the table and I agree that will send a message that I'm on to whatever they are doing. I agree that it's pretty sad to be cheating at these stakes, but cheaters at any stakes are all the same. I used cut cards for the first time in a tournament yesterday and I plan on implementing them regularly. And yes, if **** goes down, I will beat the **** out of them and take their monay.
-
I run and attend a good amount of games at my university and would like to know peoples thoughts on protecting against cheaters and dealing with known cheats and the players who vouch for them.My situation involves two players, we'll call them John and Henry. Both played in a wild dealers choice game that I frequented last year. Games ranged from NLHE to no limit 7-card stud hi lo rolling your own and declare to 3-card monty. John would routinely sit to the left of another regular player, I'll call him George, and George never cut when John dealt. Towards the middle of the Spring semester

I agree that it is reckless to make this play routinely on any player. I play at the 1-1 level and 2-2 level on FCP and I think against some of the more solid regular players this move is very viable, but if you are going to risk possibly multiple pot sized bets you must know they can fold. It always looks like a good idea, and positive reinfocement sometimes helps us hang to those notions, but bluffing with the naked ace is best used on opponents you know can fold.

Who's in, where at. I'm at Faisalabad with 13.5k

I'm not a fan of raising in SB preflop instead of checking, I think it doesn't usually limit the field enough and you are still OOP. In addition, reraising when it gets back to you is imperative, because you can get allin pf with aces double-suited. On the flop you are pretty much done. You only have one nut out and someone could easily have it. Too bad things didn't work out for your big hand but let it go.
-
It can be correct to fold the nut straight on the flop and turn even when it is still the nuts because the redraws against you are enormous. For instance you have 7822 no suits in the BB with $25 inn the .25 BB game. Some limpers play and you of course check. Flop is 69T with two spades. I would suggest checking here because although you have the nuts now, the turn and rever must be complete blanks for it to stay that way. If someone pots it and there is a caller or more, I think you should fold. If only one bettor bets you can call. THe turn is an offsuit king. Now you check again an

I think this hand probably warrented some passive play preflop because it has no suits, and no other big connecting cards for straights. With this hand you want to hit a set or 2 pair head up and take it down. This is why other aces are much stronger- because you can flop a much more powerful hand in an overpair with a flush draw. In addition, I think that at this table calling the preflop raises with good "flop" hands like 2 pairs and suited connectors to make a wrap is the best strat. You can still probs get your money in great and have less risk.Good luck and don't play like a holdem pl

I recently got a 300 set of modern clays by blue chip and I think that overall they are a great chip. The only downside is that it will take some time to break them in. I haven't tried the InPlays but if they are any better than these I think they will be great. I haven't tried paulson chips at all so I can't really compare though. In terms of how many chips you need I think it depends on how big the pots in your cash game get. Can you customize denominations for that set, if not I'd suggest you look for one where you can. Build a 650 set that can handle your pot size and you'll be ok.Go

Well that settles it. I can't believe I'm thanking FoxNews, but thanks.

Fcp Heads Up Poker League (modified)

Daniel, could you clarify what is "home field advantage" in this league? Is it the right to decide the time of the match or even the site on which it will be played?Great idea btw. -
On the spectrum of fear and love you fall very close to the former, and I suggest if you want to be a winning player you move toward the latter. Just go to a football game and get into a brawl, its the best thing about Europe.

I play pot limit omaha online but I started with NLHE tourneys. I consider them an indulgence despite being a big long-term winner because they take so much time and big scores are often few and far between. I think peeps like tourneys because there is a sense of glory in winning or making a big cash. Nevertheless, cash games are still where tourney junkies go to piss off the rest of their rolls so that's where I'll be.

Just looking at the chips they are indistinguishable from the metal insert 11.5 chips which are most definately plastic products. A good way to tell is to drop one or two on a hard wood surface or stack them on top of one another by dropping and listen to hear a metal ring. If this is there I would know that they are indeed not clay mold products and just custom stamped.Good designs though

I think it is absurd that very few discussions on abortion even mention the origin of the law of the land as defined by two key Supreme Court opinions: Roe v. Wade (http://www.tourolaw.edu/patch/Roe/) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=505&invol=833). They aren't that long and they are the cornerstone of American abortion law. Regardless of moral standing on the issue it doesn't ever directly convert to a public policy so I think this discussion should be better suited to reflect actual abortion law instead of hypo econ.

I think the whole thing with the hosts having heavy facial hair and this one unknown guy who looks quite sketchy don't help this show one bit. In concept this show is the best yet, getting into the most private and secluded areas of the poker world, but they screw it up a bit with all of this silly "its their own hard cash on the table!" gimmicks. I think you mention it once in the show and just let it go, and I also agree with Yoda on all counts. I think they need a real pro commentating this show because only they could really explain the ins and outs of the big games. It'd be even bette
