either a big overpair or a set. aa, kk, 88, 77, or 44.EDIT: also, if i was on a resteal with 56, 74, or 87.

also, with two people in the pot i would have raised the flop a little bit. when you flop a huge hand, like a full house, it is usually difficult to get paid because you usually hold all the cards worth holding. but in this case, this flop hits a lot of hands and you could easily get one or both to come along with you if you bet the right amounts. i would have played this a little more aggressively.

2-5 Nl, Overbetting For The Kids
linkwood replied to Naismith's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
i'm no math wiz, so i can't tell you all that stuff. but at a bad table, in a six way pot, you will get called here more often than not. this is based on two things. first you have to have the right table image. it would help if you had been seen being aggressive with a draw before. because they aren't thinking players they don't have to have seen you push with a draw, but just being aggressive. secondly, if you know that these people would definitely go broke with one pair, then this sounds like a very profitable move. -
first reaction - HOLY ****second reaction - sick sick sick hand. if someone has the royal flush then its a huge cooler but i just can't fold a straight flush. they can have all of my money.

frustrating but standard.

IMO if we are going to call we should just move the second villian all in. its only two dollars more and makes our decisions easier on later streets. if we are calling then we are going with the hand, so might as well get it all in here. i don't mind a fold in this spot, but, like others say, at this level, i'd probably just grit my teeth and pay this off. ISAP

i think he's got a weak holding like jj, kq, qj, or ak, or perhaps a straight draw of his own. at best it looks like kk. his play seems weak and i would throw a bet out here. like 180-200. make it look like a value bet and it will really define his hand. he will easily dump the really marginal hands, like jj, ak, maybe qj. if he flat calls then its probably kq or kk, or a really well disguised monster. i doubt you're getting raised here.

honestly, IMO, your biggest mistake was preflop. play OOP against 2 opponents who are short on chips with a small suited connector is a mistake. you just don't have the implied odds you need. on the flop it isn't as bad, although i would still fold. against kj and and overpair you are about 25% to win, so you're getting the right price against that specific range. still, i would fold because, like you said, you wouldn't be sure exactly what are the good cards, and if you catch a five it could be a terrible card if one of your opponents has 33 or jj. fold preflop. fold flop. call turn.

why bet anything then?

Picking Up Outs On The Turn
linkwood replied to David_Nicoson's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
like other's say, it depends on your opponent, but i would lean towards leading at the turn. the flop bet could have been an standard continuation bet, so leading now really helps to define the opponents hand, and could easily fold a better hand. if he raises, well, then it will depend on your read and stack sizes. -
Taking A Trip Down The Dark Tunnel
linkwood replied to zimmer4141's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
I think you need to value bet an overpair here IMO. three handed you're going to get called by a lot more hands than will fold the river here. and those hands (any pair basically) will likely check behind. i think you miss some value by checking this river with an overpair. -
i agree with this. usually a turn min raise signals a monster. when you have a big draw you want a couple things going for you. first, you want to have two cards to come to give you highest amount of equity (its about a 20%-30% difference between the flop and turn). secondly, you want fold equity, otherwise you're just gambling. the way the villian has played this there isn't any fold equity. if you push the villian will be getting over 3-1 on their call, so even if they don't have a monster they will be tempted to call, and basically everything they could call with is beating you. so i

QFT. A lot of times a competent villian will check a strong 9, like k9, q9, in order to catch a bluff from a busted draw. I think the river is worth value betting.

i believe this

20 sounds about right. Its true that if you're playing 6 max in a laggy style you'll have more swings. but i play laggy in the micro limits and do very well. you just have to play smart and pick your spots. people generally play so bad there you can profit nicely as long as you make the proper adjustments to the types of bad players you see.

Would You Call In This Spot?
linkwood replied to Big Jono's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
i think you're preflop raise is too small also. you're in the small blind and you gave the first limper 2.5 to 1 to call. since he's loose, per your read, he will likely call. then the second limper gets over 3 to 1, so he will likely call. then you're OOP with AQ against two opponents that you don't have a read on. not a good situation. as played though i have to call here for the reasons others have stated. -
i don't remember that one. refresh my memory.

yeah, i agree after thinking about it some more. its sort of like leaving an escape route, even though i think it would have worked in this case.

Hey DN. I wanted to know if you had a chance to see the latest episode of HSP3 and what you thought about the hand with Brad Booth and Phil Ivey where Ivey held the Kings and BB the 4 :spade:2 . We have a thread in the strategy section about it if you want to refresh your memory: http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...showtopic=95640was it a great play on the part of Booth or suicide that just worked this time?
-
yeah, having the gutter ball and backdoor spades helped, but i think having a flop that contained a lot of draws was just what he was looking for. there was so much to represent there that it made it extremely difficult for ivey to put him on one holding, whereas ivey knew that booth likely had a good idea of his hand. here's a question, would booth make the same play if the flop comes 6 7 10 ? i'm not sure he would with total air, but i do think that if he did the results would probably be the same.
-
i'm really glad you guys brought up this hand because i agree, the play was amazing. all the he knows that he knows that he knows crap is making my head spin. the flop was perfect for booth because he could represent so much. great play...
-
still think its retarded.
-
you're probably right. honestly, i never play these ace rag hands if i don't have to, not sure why i said what i did. i think the key point though is to keep the pots as small as possible if you are playing these hands. ideally you could do this best by folding. but you already know that
-
i don't advocate a fold here. but making the pot bigger when you don't know where your opponent is at with a weak hand OOP is a bad play. i say call, keep the pot small and reevaluate from there. but making the pot huge with a junk hand is a mistake IMO.
