10nl: Overpair Line Check
jmbreslin replied to jmbreslin's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
It's possible I priced myself in with my bet sizing but I have a hard time believing that I'm not beaten. This line of call, call, push-raise turn is a typical strength move for micro players. In an unknown player I would expect him to either call down or raise the flop with a hand like TT.Calling the turn means I'm stacking off on the turn with a JJ overpair for 100BB, which just seems -ev without a read. -

New Challenge: Movin' On Up
jmbreslin replied to KingJames's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
Holy hell, I've completely lost track of this thread. -
I might lead out on the flop - the flop is dry and it's multiway, so you don't want it to get checked through. I might lead for say 1/2 pot and hope to get raised. As played, checking again on the turn is risky because there are now a few draws you have to worry about.

Frickin 10NL Rush. Started getting my giraffe on an upward slope again with an early double-through, then lost 1.5 stacks on two hands where I got rivered. It's 2 steps forward, 1 step back...until it becomes 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Is 3 steps forward too much to ask? -
I prefer flatting for two reasons:1) you are a bit too deep to be looking for shoving spots - for shove 3-betting I tend to prefer a stack in the 20BB range2) the original raise is basically a minraise so flatting doesn't represent a big chunk of your stack3) any other 3-bet is going to leave you in a very difficult spot postflop, playing a mid-pair in a big pot OOP against a loose villain

Holy crap, you just handed that guy the worst beat ever. You 1-outed him on the river! He's probably still staring at his computer screen in disbelief. -
River Brings Me Flush But Pairs Board
jmbreslin replied to jmbreslin's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
Unfortunately he did have 77 for the rivered boat. I think my mistake was not taking the free card on the turn, but we may have ended up getting it in on the river anyways. If he leads river and I raise, he'd most likely just shove. -

Does that mean a straightforward raise or call, or a straightforward raise and call if reraised? -
River Brings Me Flush But Pairs Board
jmbreslin replied to jmbreslin's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
Thanks everyone. With respect to my turn bet, I figured a straight was unlikely and his flop calling range is going to be pretty wide there, so I figured I still had pretty decent equity on the turn. But perhaps taking the free card would have been the better play.Suppose I take the free card, keeping the pot at $1.75, and he pots the river. Would you ever raise there, or just call? -

10nl: Tt Overpair, Scare On River
jmbreslin replied to jmbreslin's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
I seriously don't know when to pot and when not to. -
Not sure I understand what you mean. I had TPTK on a drawy board - you wouldn't fire again on the turn? And wouldn't firing 2 bullets make it less likely that I get floated a lot? Besides, this is 10NL Rush where there probably isn't a whole lot of floating going on.

10nl: Tt Overpair, Scare On River
jmbreslin replied to jmbreslin's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
I was a bit lost on the river. I didn't want to check and face a big bet and I thought the Ace would be a big scare card if he didn't have one. I don't think I gave careful enough consideration to the fact that it might have hit his range if he's chasing the NFD, nor that repping the Ace myself would mean I most likely fired 2 bullets with missed AK/AQ/AJ hands. Of course I'm not sure if that is too high a thought level for most 10NL players. -

10nl Rush: Easy Flop Decision?
jmbreslin replied to jmbreslin's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
So maybe it's not such an easy decision after all...Most 10NL players aren't going to raise to rep an Ace here, since they know that an Ace is a big part of my raising range. And hands like A6 or A7 certainly aren't excluded from his range since many 10NL players don't understand the concept of calling raises with dominated hands (especially if it's A6s or A7s). You also can't exclude AK based on the fact that he didn't 3-bet because most 10NL players are passive. It's possible he could be testing me with something like AJ/AT, but that's a pretty big raise. My first thought was "why would he ra -

No, that was my point - I wasn't checking to induce a spaz here. I checked because I didn't like the board and was hoping to get to showdown cheaply. So I guess I answered my own question, didn't I?
