  1. brvy, your condition is totally curable.
  2. Which one? We go to the Sunday one on Main Street almost every week, although recently discovered that the one in Brentwood has much more good food type stuff.
  3. I missed the backstory, this is a woman from the arctic who goes both ways? Sounds great to me.
  4. Her considering him a real friend is the worst possible outcome isn't it?
  5. Because all of the storm runoff goes right into the ocean. When I first moved out here I was so excited to be able to surf every day and I had no idea about this and got sick several times going in after a rain. Its pretty disgusting. You're supposed to wait at least 3 days after a rain go in.
  6. Yes, look at the ocean after it rains, but don't touch.
  7. It's mostly just that the place is not built to handle rain. The entire architecture of the city was built pretending that it never rains. If I go to get lunch on campus on a rainy day, since 90% of the seating is outdoors, there are a million people crammed inside with no place to sit. It's just a huge hassle everywhere.
  8. The retina is part of the brain. When I was in grad school, some girl I slept with spread rumors about my...largesse. They all knew. It did not lead to any more sex for me. If it rains tomorrow, I'm not going to work.
  9. Wait, strat was in LA and didn't call me? I'm offended. I work just down the street from the Staples Center.
  10. Just stopping by to say thanks to brvheart. I had been looking for a way to make some extra cash, and so his recommendation came at just the right time for me. I'm really excited about the opportunity to make so much without even leaving my home. Thanks for thinking of me, man.
  11. Staples Center. Maybe I'll stop by so I can do this:
  12. Well that's pretty easy, it was the al- Hmmm. The mystery deepens. <bow> wait a minute, just how long has this been going on?? I know, right? <high five EG's friend>
  13. I can't believe you remember that. Well the advantage I have then is that I haven't given up on him. SA: Just don't communicate with her for a week. One week.
  14. Jesus Christ. Make sure you put your skirt on before delivering this message Essay so that it comes across more genuine. This reminds me that if I am away from here too long I start to feel guilty because I know you guys are sitting around giving each other shitty advice and it's my responsibility to clear things like this up. You just totally made him the woman in the relationship Guapo. You cannot tell her what you "deserve" or demand more from her. There's only one move with a girl who is stringing you along and not putting out. Stop talking to her. That's it. Pretty simple.
  15. Is that really what Randy said? Let's go to the videotape. Ok nevermind, I have no idea what he was saying.
  16. I don't think we're disagreeing substantively. The thing about doing exercise is that its more than it seems -- it's doing something thats good for you and the decision to do that carries its own power that can start a domino effect of other similar decisions. It's a bit of a foot in the door just like the drugs are. Maybe Randy was being flippant but its actually decent advice that he gave. Again, aside from the running part. That may actually increase likelihood of suicide.
  17. Agreed. It's just that so many people go to psychiatrists, who are medical doctors and want to treat the thing with meds and have no training whatsoever in psychology, that meds get disproportionately used. I mean, it really is effective though. Here's a meta-analysis that finds significant treatment effects for exercise alone, and that exercise alone in many studies was equivalent in effect to CBT. That's pretty huge. Of course of all the different kinds of exercise I can imagine doing, running seems the most depressing.
  18. Also, this is funny: http://www.theonion.com/articles/study-anxiety-resolved-by-thinking-about-it-real-h,32555/?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=SocialMarketing&utm_campaign=standard-post%3Aheadline%3Adefault
  19. He's absolutely wrong. Depression is a serious disorder. So is heart disease. Both can be aided by exercise. My point is that the serious, life-threatening nature of depression does not have anything to do with what fixes it. That said, I understand why Randy's came off as dismissive, but I don't think it needed to be taken that way. The drug companies have spent a lot of money to spread the physical disease metaphor of depression and have been so successful that this point of view is now basically unquestioned by the public. I think its a dangerous mistake based on a tota
  20. Well I clicked on the next page button like 6 weeks ago. It just finally loaded yesterday. Beach.
  21. Oh yeah strat's posts are bound to clear things up.
