  2. FYP. See, it makes a better story when you use kings as the hole cards.
  3. According to this poll, all the money in poker is provided by less than 18% of the players.A lot of us are either: delusional, lying, or are bad record-keepers, or... the magic of FCP protects us from our losses, and delivers us from bad beats.
  4. A local cardroom runs about 20 tournaments a month (7-8 tables, paying one spot for each table). They withhold a couple hundred bucks from each prize pool to fund a freeroll for the tournament winners. Once a month, they run a tournament of champions, and pay the top 3. Question: from an EV perspective, is this something that the players should be happy about? There doesn't seem to be much outrage about the 'missing' prize money, and of course, the winners don't mind too much, as they have a shot at a bigger prize.
  5. My A game isn't [just] a winning session. Those come for all kinds of reasons. I think my A game comes when I'm in the "flow" and seeing the table well. Some days, it feels like the table is all just puppets, and they're doing exactly what they're supposed to. I know when raises will steal, and when chasers hit their gutshot. What gets me to that mystical place? Rest, sobriety, early pots in the session, concentration... It almost never happens when I've got friends on the table. I think it has a lot to do with the other players, and the chemistry of the table. It only happens about 5% of
  6. What, exactly, does singing the national anthem of the United States at a hockey game in Canada have to do with acknowledging or supporting the troops. How, in any way, does it assuage the pain or seriousness of Cpt. Goddard's death or the other deaths from the mission in Afghanistan? Such jingoistic nonsense should be exposed for the sophism it is. Imagine that you're in Kandahar. You've just lost an officer to hostile gunfire. Deaths are becoming more common in this mission, as it has had a more active combat role than any peacekeeping mission in recent history. Morale is good, though,
  7. Don't you think that cheering through the Anthem is almost as disrepectful as booing? Silent observation or singing along are about the only acceptable things, IMO. If only they would just drop the puck and forget about having the Anthem at all.
  8. You, sir, are a turd. For some reason, you prefer ad hominem to discussion, so we're there. However, I've read that you shouldn't argue with an idiot, as they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. On that note, I'm done with you. Go away now.
  9. I flashed the cards out of frustration... I didn't think I was best. This hand isn't important to me, except that it established the character of the table and the background for why I made the call later. It was an easy fold. My bet was small, in retrospect. The pot was about 55 at this point. What bet would have been right? Pot-size? I thought at the time I was a favorite to most of the hands I put him on, but talking with a friend after, he felt that I should have credited a set (a hand I'm much further behind on). He said I made a weak call. In my mind, I was pretty sure that if I

  11. To begin this story, I need to give some background. I'm a reasonably successful low limit player over the past few years, but I've never played above 5-10. I've had some success in tournaments, but I'm a novice NL ring game player. The hands described are from my 7th or 8th NL session. This is B&M 1-2NL.Hand "A", about an hour into the session. I have about $300 in front of me (bought in for 2). I'm in seat 1.I get raised off a pot when it is bet and raised in front of me. I have AcJd in late position, and the flop comes cJc giving me top pair with a backdoor nut flush draw. It is b
  12. DN is relying on an emailed interpretation of a legal release/consent form by an interested party to determine what his rights are? Aieeee! Here's an idea: show up at the next event, look over the release, stroke out any terms that seem unreasonable, and sign it. Then take your seat or your cab home, depending on their reaction.
