  1. It happens a lot... more than we think... most people aren't really good at is so the amount it helps them is minimal.... one problem with Ultimate Bet is that is doesn't give city location.. only United States, so I use Ultimate Buddy and Notes like a maniac...
The whole location thing is overrated. Anybody who is a "good" colluder, as in good at it, puts in whatever location they want. The "pro cheaters" aren't going to give themselves away with anything that stupid. You can put in any location you want. And that is even aside from the fact that you don't have to collude with a guy from your home down. I guess I'm just saying the fact UB doesn't give location shouldn't be a big deal. Only the incompetents who aren't doing a very good job would ever be caught by that (such as incompetents who basically tell their table they're colluding, like what happened to to the thread poster). The other thing about colluding online is it's mainly SnGs you have to worry about. A ring table, you suspect something, you just leave. No big deal. Report them and leave, but primarily leave the table.A MTT, it's not like it's gonna be a big deal unless they both make final table (or get some incredible luck in getting the same table). But SnG you already paid your buyin, and they got to choose the table. I have friends that refuse to play SnGs because of this. They think there are teams of colluders all playing together and splitting the profits. I think that's taking quite a bit too far, but I'm sure some of it goes on. I've even been approach by aquaintences (online ones) who asked if I was interested in such things. I get mocked for my "strange morals" by some of my online friends.
  2. Is it somehow important to you that you win 100% of the hands you bet into, and if you don't you need to throw a tantrum?
I think he was trying to say that it was important (to him, not sure about you) to win pots of $200+ when you're a huge favorite to win.
Shrug, Vid is quite on on this. The poster of this thread is being a child. We all feel that way when someone gives us a horrible beat, at least sometimes. But he's saying "HAH, I ALWAYS YELL AND ACT LIKE A RUDE DUMBSH1T, AND I LIKE IT!!1" Not that sometimes he can't help it, but he likes to do that. He couches it in fine terms about controlling his tilt (try controlling it through willpower?), and says the fish are so fishy that he won't improve them. But it depends on the fish. As poker writers have said, many people who play fishy are ABLE to play better, they just often don't care. But if you get in their face or yell and scream, they might start caring. Oh, and along with potentially improving them, you also often (very often in my experience when idiots yell at them) cause the fish to leave the table to somewhere where they can "gamble" in peace. And this ignores the whole question of being a jacka$$. But obviously the poster of the thread doesn't care about that since he's playing online and the casino can't throw him out.Sure you like your huge favorites to hold up, but uh, it's a favorite, not a lock. I won't bother to explain why you like people putting the money in with the worst of it, we've all heard it, and if some people don't understand it yet, oh well.
  3. The insurance is just a group health insurance provided by an outside company.  The more members, the cheaper the insurance like any other group plan.  It also obviously depends on you, age, smoking, etc., and the deductible that you want.I have emailed them several times with questions and have always received a prompt reply.  I would try again if I were you, some mistake was probably made.
Yeah, the first time was utterly my bad. I mailed them again and they not only promptly mailed me, they gave me a forward of the first mail they had sent me. I felt stupid. :(It was going to my spam mailbox and I must have deleted the first one sent. I fixed that now.
  4. 5 6 s is the best hand to go up against aces with, but the best hand is infact AA i'm affraid. Prefer J 10 s as oppose to 10 9 because when you make a str8 you make the nuts.
My gosh, you're right! 56s is like .001 EV higher, I forgot to check that when I redid my analysis! The win percent for 56 and 78 are the same, but the win percent for AA is ever so slightly lower against 56. The tie percent goes up a bit on 56s.:D :)And yeah, we all know sadly that AA is still the favorite.
  5. Great post, wrto.  Did you just come up with all of that?
I second that, that was amazing in explaining all the typical stats wrto.On vip$ip...I do think though that there is more of a range in vp$ip than you listed though. A ton depends on how loose your table is. So many more things become playable in a loose table that isn't crazyaggressive. Also structure matters a bit, such as 3/6 blind structure of 1/3 blinds (which should make it a very tight game, though doesn't usually on party, hah), and in 15/30 the 2/3 (ratio) of blinds, 10/15. That makes it a much looser game, and more blind money to steal. SB has much more incentive to play. You should be completing just about everything unless BB raises a lot. And even be defending a bit more vs a raise. In my entire career I've never been lower than like 23-24 vp$ip, and I'm even higher in the structure of 15/30. Though I have gone on a tightening up phase. But for my first 15-16k hands I was beating 15/30 with 27.xx vp$ip and 7.5 pfr% by approx 2 BB/100. Also I think it's possible to play more hands not less the more you gain experience. Though I am reversing that trend atm. :)Now to pose my question again. Where do you find overall postflop aggression, or what you listed as AF? I mean in pokertracker. I'm not sure where this is shown.
  6. Laugh, so did you learn anything from this? Or did you enjoy the process of ups and downs and are gonna deposit another 25-50 to try the whole thing again?50 isn't enough to be "Bankrolled" in really any single thing you did the entire time. Nor is your top amount. But if it's just like extra money and you're just having a good time that's all good and it DOESN'T matter. You just put on another 25-50 some other time.It all depends what you're playing for I guess. If you want to play long-term you need to try to play within a bankroll, but if you're just having fun then you can do whatever you want. Obviously it's just up to you.

  7. *snip*As a result, I've learned to be wary of limp-raises pre-flop.  I've learned to now simply call even if I think I have the best hand, but my question is; Is this a good tactic to employ?  I remember reading SS1 and Brunson recommending a strategy like this limping in first/early position hoping somebody raises, but in a tournament setting given the risks/lunatics out there is this a valid play?Any thoughts?
Your AQo you could have easily been gotten away from. The JJ not so much. But as far as the strategy goes, it can be valid, it depends on the makeup of your table. If somebody is always raising in mid or late if nobody else has raised (to steal or with semi-good hands), then it's a very valid strategy. But that said, it usually is better to wait until the blinds are larger to do this strategy. It doesn't tend to work as well early on.As far as playing against it: a lot has to be based on observations. You have to try to figure out who are the limp-reraisers who do it only with AA/KK and maybe QQ. And that's almost impossible to do early in a tourney unless you have played with them before and have notes on them.
  8. There is almost no way to avoid this hand once you got to the turn. And I like your flop play just fine in reality since it was HU unraised pot. You should probably do what you did on the flop. But yeah, once you were there on the turn, it's gonna be really hard to give up.My one criticism is why did you (and so many people) try to checkraise and slowplay suddenly when you turned trips? It's not like he's going to be putting you on the 9 when you bet out on the K9x flop. Just bet another normal bet, and see what he does. He called on the flop so you'd assume he had a King. Obviously in this exact case he had flopped top two and was slowplaying you. But I don't see a reason to suddenly start slowplaying since he's already called your solid flop bet.Oh laugh, I don't know that I realized this was HU on the end of a SnG. Ok trying to slowplay makes a hell of a lot more sense. Like you bluffed the flop and decided to give up. Ok cancel my "criticism" in regards to you here in this hand. But the question still remains. Why do people suddenly slow down when they hit a turn to make their hand stronger? I see it ALL the time.

  9. "I watched the Super Stars Invitatinal on NBC where the "Eight Best Players in the World" battled it out wondering, "Why, I didn't know that these were the eight best poker players in the world until today? Guess you learn something new everyday!"  I get the feeling from these comments that Daniel obviously doesn't think those were the "Eight Best Players in the World".  But why does he make it out like to take away from those that were there?  He acts like he should have been there which is probably true but don't go ranting and taking away credit from those that were.  Who cares what they call the tournament don't go crying because you weren't there. Also, he wasn't invited to play to the Tournament of Champions but used his "connections" to get in.  How selfish can you be?  Just because your not invited (again probably deserved to be there) don't go crying to play.  You dont see professional athletes doing this when they are snubbed from All-Star games.  Please follow by example.
First off, he put that in his blog. As in the equivalent of his personal online diary. He didn't demand an interview with a newspaper or NBC and denounce it. He just stated he didn't think they were the 8 best in the world, and they should have said 8 OF the best. He's entitled both to think what he wants and say it.As far as the TOC goes, why is it a problem to try to get into a freeroll you think you deserve being in? He lobbied via posts and talking to some people to try to get in, and he succeeded. *shrug* He was the WSoP POTY and had been pretty hot (and finished the year off even hotter).I don't really see a problem with anything he did. If you do, that's fine. It's your right to say so, and you're entitled to post your thoughts.I just want to say I disagree with you that he did anything bad/wrong or really needs to grow up.
  10. Is it just me, or was that guy's raise on the river a little ridiculous.  I mean it's to be expected from most players online... But if that were me, and I was bet into for $12... I'd probably make it about $30 just for value.  His raise looked like a bluff, and more times than not, he's gonna lose money doing that.Anyone else notice that?
Uh, dude, when you have second to nuts you WANT it to look like a bluff. You WANT to be called when you bet huge and it looks like a bluff.
  11. What site is this out of curiosity? I'm mainly asking because why are you able to see all the cards everybody received, and it shows it 1 card at a time. It just looks weird to my eyes. :)I'm assuming it's showing you everybody''s cards because this is the hand history from after the hand is done? It's just weird! I can't take it!

  12. I always heard that UB had the best people overall from most of my higher rolling friends. But then I hear other places (like from some people on here) that stars is tougher.I dunno, I just always believed my friends that UB was pretty solid in play overall. I've only played multis and some triple-draw on UB myself though, never limit hold'em. These days I only do that on party. I've done other sites in the past, like pokerroom and pacific, but not lately.Pacific has some of the largest fish anywhere, on all limits I tried. But the crappy client and inability to multi-table makes it a no-go for most poker-ers.I mainly played 5/10 and 10/20 back then, which were fishy as hell (at pacific).

  13. www.pokerroom.com - awesome interface, nice traffic somewhere around 8-10k people, lots of games HE, stud, omaha, omaha hi-lo, some others and they have a casinowww.hollywoodpoker.com - skin for pokerroom so it should be macable as well
So, Pokerroom.com runs directly in OSX and you don't have to have virtual PC to run it?
Pokerroom.com's CLIENT only runs in windows, the downloadable client. BUT it has a javaclient that looks exactly the same (or did when I played there a year ago), and is pretty damned fast for a java client. That's why macs or anybody else can use pokerroom.com, as long as you can use a browser that can use java it works fine.
  14. I'd rather take any 2 from UTG than push even with AQ there. Domination is highly likely, fold equity is zero, players ahead of you are sensitive to your stack and have shown that they don't care if you push. Opening is far more important than what you hold, and what you hold shrinks up with that action ahead, esp. the limp. Limping is suspicious as hell, like he's inviting you to come over the top, and still someone goes over him.  However, original poster, any reads you have on these guys would be helpful to us, but I'm in the group backing your decision. At the final table of a $100 MTT, they're not gonna do bush league crap like limping in actually weak, or ignoring the short-stack behind them when raising, or folding when you give them incredible pot odds to call your reraise.Push by the time you are in the BB, but not with openers in front of you. How'd that hand shake out, after you folded anyways, just curious?
I don't really agree with most of these guys. You have 7x BB. AQ suited is probably your best bet, after blinds you're down to 5.5 BB. I'm ok with folding, but I don't agree that's the only play as half the people here posting seem to be saying. When you're low stack at the table, as he said he is, you have to take some chances, and try to double. AQc is a fine hand to take a chance on.And finally, why do you think limping in weak actually WORKS sometimes? Because people like Awful says it'd never be done here. As if the play in 100+9s are that different. HAH! I've played plenty as have many others I'm sure.[edit]Ok I reread, and half the people here agree with me, I thought EVERYBODY was saying that it's a no-brain fold. That isn't the case with half the posts.
  15. for all those who think im just kidding, 9-10 suited has a better chance of beating aces than any other hand. thats a fact.
    Now while I do realize (or think I realize) your post in mostly in jest and/or good fun... Your statement simply isn't correct. It is one of the best hands, but it's behind two other hands (vs AA).http://tinyurl.com/6zp3pcards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EVAs Ac 1319754 77.07 387069 22.61 5481 0.32 0.772Th 9h 387069 22.61 1319754 77.07 5481 0.32 0.228http://tinyurl.com/3muoucards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EVAs Ac 1315602 76.83 391672 22.87 5030 0.29 0.7708h 7h 391672 22.87 1315602 76.83 5030 0.29 0.230http://tinyurl.com/4mowrcards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EVAs Ac 1315168 76.81 391637 22.87 5499 0.32 0.7707h 6h 391637 22.87 1315168 76.81 5499 0.32 0.230So you can see, 87s and 76s beat T9s in terms of EV or win percent.A friend and I had a discussion/argument about this in the past and tested it. :)Stupid formatting, I can't get it formatted pretty so I included links for each one. Just look at the far right part for EV.[edit]I tested on cardplayer's icky GUI calculator and it backed this up too.
  16. entertainment value?? let me know when it has some , then ill watch...i'd ,much rather watch las vegas....that sucks too, but at least thats somewhat entertaining...tilt is just bad...it's not so much the OVERUSE of poker lingo,,its the writing not to mention the acting...like i said in a post before if mtv had a music video based on poker it would be tilt...
Don't bother Ivey, man. This is the WE-LOVE-TILT thread. Many many people agree with you, but not the people gushing in this thread. But they're entitled to watch overdramatized trash if they're having a good time watching it. Lots of people like pro-wrestling too, who cares.By the by, I don't hate it because it's so obviously fake, I hate it for the poor scripting, the horrible acting (by all but 1 or 2 people), and most of all the extremely bad overdamatization. But again, this is the WE-LOVE-TILT thread, so I won't post here anymore.ps. I still want the hour back of my life that I wasted watching episode 1
  17. In general, what do you do when you either:a) flop the nutsB) get the nuts on the turnc) on the river
First off, she made a bad play as she made top set on the flop but let you and the other player have free draws (no reraise?).Looks like you were first to act so your bet seems fine to me; based on the betting pattern, there's no way I would have known she had pocket K's In general,a) I like to check the flop but after the turn bet out; I might check the turn too if say I have a boat and there are flush/straight draws out there. You want someone to hit the flush/straight.B) I probably would check it and then bet on the riverc) If I'm first to act, I would bet it - you're really hoping for a re-raise or bet if you check it; but wihout any read on the other player, I would normally just bet and hope for a call.
I just wanted to chime in with the (made) nut flush you often want to bet at least some before the river. You want somebody with a lone Kd or Qd to pay you to chase (while drawing dead). Otherwise if you wait too long people such as that won't pay you anything on the river (if they miss). Also if you wait, some guy with a lower flush might also be waiting to slowplay and you don't get as much as otherwise possible. Though this part isn't a big deal in NL, since you can bet any amount. But if he has like a 8 high made flush, he might fold if another diamond comes, and you wouldn't want that.
  18. Slowplaying is also commonplace, and people like to do it because it's fancy and manipulative. Do it when it meets the rules and has value, but know that people think about it a great deal. You have no idea how many times I've bet the flopped nuts hard and gotten paid off by someone whose next line was "thought you'd slowplay something that big". Now stealing from Smasharoo, "Fastplaying is the new slowplaying", it actually works that way sometimes.
I only quoted the end, but that was a great post Awful. And I know the thread is about NL, but I second Smasharoo's saying. That's how I tend to play things in limit. Especially with flopped trips. Nobody believes you play flopped trips fast -- ever. By trips, I do mean trips, not a set. Not that I don't play sets fast too, but it's the board pair flops that nobody believes you would ever play fast.
  19. I'm actually kind of curious. Why did you bother to try to go for a checkraise on the turn? On the flop people just passively called your bet. Why did you think they'd suddenly wake up to bet? Granted someone did (who oddly called bets on a gutshot on the flop), but why would you assume they would? All you potentially do (imo) is let somebody who picked up a flush draw or straight draw possibly get a free card. It's not like anybody raised you on the flop. Your single bet on the flop made the preflop raiser fold.
