Gee with all the SLIME BAGS out there now we have a blog fight between a guy BG who actually had a part in a revolutionary creation in the computer software industry that is a major use to the US economy. And he was success/creative genious, and made a ton in that business world. That's more important than anything a few (not all) card hustlers with alleged prior ties to Tony "the Ant " Spilatro have done!!Then BG solicits help, posts online, gives his time, and declares to IRS all $$ his Poker Charity from poker tourn. to childrens causes too. Gee theres a bad guy!!!!!!And I know Daniel wa

For online I think Smash is correct X hands or Y hours your choice. For the live game you are deluding or denying the obvious. First even you "friend" taking you dough felt sorry for you. PLEASE don't say that you table image isn't somewhat important in a live game. And yours was sub human, ie. fishoid!!Another thing, (paraphrased) "it seemed all your moves got called and all yoour big hands weren't paid off". Couldn't it be possible that even your dumb buddies now know you well enough to have picked up a few subconsious reads or your tells? Not possible?? Good rule is to quit at 30 BB l

BTW-- The guy who wants to give up the corporate world is admirable and has some clear goals.. My only caution is that there really is a mathematical calculation of variance that demands a solid untouchable bankroll of $10,000 to $12,000 to play $10 or $15 limit holdem over the long run. And to play with confidence more is better. There are so many really bad new players, for awhile I think you will do great. There's nothing wrong with building it up so high you can buy your own business/real estate property that will be another cash stream for a long while too!!

The $10-$20 cutoff for pro vs. recreational was made a long time ago as the lowest limit you could play live in a csaino. Now online w/multitables--who knows what's a semi-pro!! To answer your move up question, I went from $3-$6 up to $50-$100 live in Hm games, then dropped back to $10 or $15-$30 limit Hm for 5 years as my optimum level. Basically there's enough money now from investment/ bond interest income from old poker bankroll, to play when I want online or in AC where we have a cheap condo. Withdrawls? I'm not filled with trust by Gibralter/etc. based Corporations so I leave no more

Am I the only one who turned on the TV before work to watch DN play poker live on Today Show???To answer the pay question 1) I doubt DN will ever say 2) As a resident of Los Vegas it is worth it to do for free given the investment and/or gaming opportunities a relationship with Steve Wynn may open up. Working with/for Wynn gives you major credibility in Vegas. What's the alternative? Keep risking the 5 mil. you won in 2004 in "the big game" until you run bad a few times and pi#$ it off like many tournament winners who are now broke, unhapp -
If Daniel wasn't Canadien speaking I'd say he was delusional for saying BG hadn't earned more money than Chip plus Doyle in the same time frame!!!!Barry earned MORE THAN CHIP AND DOYLE IN ONE DAY.(the day Symantec went public and he sold his stock).Everyone at the big game can't be winner though--perhaps BG isn't quite as good as he says.Actually I suspect it's Mrs Brunson sitting in Texas who is the only one who ends up with any money and ton of investents at the end of the day.

Looks like you're making correct decisions and playing fine. You could try a bunch of cheap Sit and Goes at NL too, until the bad streak changes.

I bought into a Step 1 at PP for $33 on Tuesday and they kept giving me another freeroll for anything from 2nd to sixth place, and a $25 refund for seventh. I finally won a step 2 but don't know if the generous 4th through 6th freerolls continue at the second and higher levels.(was lucky w/ a second and first right of the bat at Step 2--so now I'm interested)What's the deal, because they only posted a payoff at Step 1 of 1st thru 3rd but paid more. I guess it's a come-on that doesn't apply beyond Step 1's. But don't know, and I'm saving the FR till I figure it out.Anybody know the rules at P

BTW- The advice of CHIPINCHAIR is very well thought out and a good solid strategy IMHO.

The exact situation you lost in is just what I wait for early. AA and even KK or QQ is so dominent over these Donkeys, I like to try to get it all in preflop early if I can. If you double up early it is so much easier to lay back and fold at lot of hands you'd normally play for a raise like AQ to 77.This also lets you trap if they screw up, don't raise, and you can see a flop cheap w/ a hand that can flop the near nuts like A6s, or 33.And I love multiway pots with AA all-in --hey I'm still a >40% favorite and I might have a giant chip lead that will hold up to put me into a place to have

It has been mathematically (statistically) calculated that your overall bankroll should be about 300 big bets at the limit you playlong term. This is to offset the reasonable range of outcomes of where you lose a sequence of pots purely due to the variance of probablistic outcomes. At one sitting (what you actually might be are talking about) usually 30 big bets is a reasonable place to quit if you lose, but one can go as high as 45BB which is the limit Howard Lederer calculated and allowed his sister to lose when she started. So $160 is appropriate for one $2-$4 limit sitting, double that

5-6 High Limit tables at Wynn sounds fine, comparable to the Borgata in AC with 7. Hey $200-$400 is certainly what I'd call high enough, and they're just starting. Sounds worth a visit this year, perhaps during some other tournament. To the other question: I have a rented condo, but last time I checked the Borgata was around $65 plus tax poker rate Mon.- Thurs, and $125 on weekend, but you could use your poker points from the players card against the room cost for more discount. I get a lot of points since after all what else is there to do in AC? I heard something about a better deal if yo

For those who don't need to read the other 5 pg.s of flames--here's a summery:Hassan folded a KJs when it was 3 handed against an extreeemly short stack he may or may not have had a stake in or the reverse. And most think it's obvious cheating, but some think Hassan my be one of the best NL readers of all time and thought he was in bad shape, and no one but HH knows for sure. One person (me) often folds KJ just cause it's a sucky and/or unlucky hand for me.And it's not collusion if only one player knows that he is playing soft as long as the other person being backed doesn't know. Unless it'

Thanks for the report. From what I saw on the Today Show this morning it looked like a nice set-up. I think Mr. Wynn may have not put in enough tables given the current interest in Poker. It sounds like the new Borgata Poker Room in AC which he also designed, except about 50% smaller. How many higher limit tables were there? I presume they will rope off as needed.

Tuan Le is being accused of cheating....

UNFORTUNATELY SMASHAROO IS CORRECT!!!!Here's a csae where I was being a slime-ball unethical bum and NOT Colluding. I was backing an excellant but broke (legal bills) guy in a $30-$60 hi-lo Stud-8 game and everytime I had an unbeatable low and my horse was drawing against another high I wouldn't raise. Why would I cost myself 1/2 the pot (or 50% of half) ? The guy I was soft-playing (backing) had no idea until several players complained. How could--- WE---- be colludingwhen he didin't know? There was no we, just me.We were eventually banned from both playing the same game.On the folded KJs -
DN was on the Today Show around 8:30AM for 2 segments playing Poker with the Today Show hosts and Bonnie Hunt of Celebrity Poker fame. First hand DN raised UTG to 300 and was reraised by Katie Kurric (sp?) with KJs and called by Al Roker w/ A rag. DN folded after the flop to Katie who is one of the 50 wealthest women in USA (good for poker or what) but Al took down the pot w/ A high. First televised poker hand from the Wynn. They spent awhile on the leadin on the popularity of Poker as well making the game and the new Wynn Casino look like a real fun place to placeNICE JOB DN!! WHAT the HECK does the Republican Party, Clinton or Bush have to do with this tread on H. Lederer. TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!!Yes to run a Vegas Sports book you needed a CCC license and that was Lederer/Siedel's problem. All I was suggesting is getting a legal operation with a license may have been thought to be VERY unheathy if it was in competiton with the ones run by the Chicago Mob in those days.

The problem with you whole theory is it's next to impossible to make a living playing $4-8 live. As for Vegas games, if you are willing to wait for hours to get a seat, yeap it's probably one of the best places to win easy tourist money on weekends thru Monday. Same with AC and Foxwoods, but as was pointed out, if you play all week in Northern CA and/or parts of Arizona, you run into some true calling stations all week long. In other words, if poker is a second income and you already live there, N. CA and Az are a good deal.Another fact of Vegas is the $4-8 pros often would rather 4 table on

If you ever transfer money make sure the two accounts didn't play in the same game. Otherwise they think it's collusion whether it is or not!

I don't think Kaplan or Regan got their facts straight. Last time I checked, running a sports book in Vegas wasn't illegal in Vegas, although it was well know that these places were shook down by Spiltro's Crew. They even showed the "Ant" making a "bookie" pay off a losing bet in Casino if I remember. Historically (per FBI-see the book Tony Accardo by an ex FBI ajent) Spilatro represented the Stardust, which was the first major Vegas book in a Casino and it WAS his job to threaten and/or see trumped up stuff leveled at the competion.Actually one of the bigger sports bookies on the East Coa

new argument for those who argued suited_up
AC BillP replied to Royal_Tour's topic in General Poker Forum
We play for a lifetime, not one hand. It's just my opinion but I suggest that most times you bet your chips and have a mathematical expectation of winning that is 2!! TIMES that which a casino does quite well with--- then it is by definition a correct bet with a positive long term expectation for you. All the other childish opinion on "plays" is a stupid waste of time.Yes Lederer and DN might bet differently at times at different amounts, but they are winners because they identify when there is a big mathematical (statistical) advantage in their bet--regardless of the short term idiot/oppone -
For some reason I like Ivey's chances better than D. Williams.

I went to 2 Ivy's and just gave up the heavy hangovers on Sunday and one semester of a minor sport to win about $60-$90 week in live games. It added up and I paid for my first year of grad school with the savings before getting a fellowship the next year. Like everything else, it's a trade off, and the grad degree made me an extra $30,000 year in salery to start when it was done. I don't see the difference between a 20/30 hour extraciricular activity and Poker, as long as you don't carry it too an extreem or an addiction.

bad evelyn ng article from her site
AC BillP replied to Rocketwadster's topic in General Poker Forum
People who make fun of others bodies are generally very shallow immature people. I suspect Ms Eg regrets her childish comment and it's poor reflection on her own character. She is surely intelligent enough to know that many people with throid problems and Addison's disease (for example) can not both control their weight through diet and also have enough calories for their heart to keep beating. For eample neither the late President Kennedy nor comedian Jerry Lewis were exactly thought of as anything but skinny before the onset of fatal Addison's disease and accompanying weight increases. -
I'm retired, and if I work, that salery is deducted from my check until age 65. This way I keep everything, plus it's tax free except in tournaments.Plus there's often free food, cloths, rooms and lots of nice travel to neat resorts meeting many interesting people I've meet over the years.
