  1. As a native of San Diego, be prepared to watch one of the most amazing defensive shortstops ever. I'm not comparing him to Ozzie Smith, but you guys did it to San Diego again. He has surprising power and despite his low average, he gets his fair share of timely hits.Don't judge him by his body language, because you will never ever see any emotion out of him, and don't think he doesn't care because of it, he does. He's also a heavily religious, Ba hai, I think it is, and has never had alcohol, soda, or any type of sugar. Plus he's a semi-serious rapper.
Hoping this is true. I like the fact that the Cards got him when his value was lowest (it's kinda their speciality). His OBP worries me. Hoping getting out of Petco will help him out offensively, but I suspect it'll just make him swing for the fences more than it seems he already does.
  2. lol really? I'm pretty sure nobody expected them to be any worse than 4th place in a division with Pittsburgh/Houston/Cincy.
Many thought they'd compete w/ Pittsburgh for last place. Expectations for the team were very low, and despite that they were in contention all season long. Any kind of a good bullpen/closer for most of the season and they were a playoff team. Albert was the main reason.
  3. If Howard's BA was .280 instead of .250, his OBP would be 30 points higher and his OPS 60 points higher, and he would have been a much better candidate. Then he would have finished 170 pts behind Pujols in OPS instead of 230.Actually, yeah, it wouldn't really have made a dent. Pujols is stupid-good. His elbow was banged up all year. I mean, Jesus.
totally agreed, glad to see the voters get it right. I was expecting the voters to be swayed by the "sexy" numbers. Howard was mostly an all or nothing guy and then had a good final 3 weeks or so. Meanwhile Pujols drug that Cardinals into contention all year when most expected them to be a last place team. If you switch the closers on the 2 teams, no one would've even considered Howard. He's not even the MVP of his own team.
  4. 100% correct you are. Myers was struggling, and you had a chance to put up at least a 3-0 lead.I'm not gonna criticize the umpiring that much just for the fact that CC has to finish Myers off there. That was ugly.Midwest baseball in the playoffs suck right now.
In fairness to him, the guy is the only reason they are in the playoffs anyway, plus he's been pitching on 3 days rest for quite awhile now. He's gotta be wearing down a bit.
  5. Lincecum going away for the NL Cy Young. I don't like giving the MVP to a guy on a 4th place team, since they'd have finished 4th without Pujols as well, but his numbers blow everyone else away.lol @ any discussion of anyone other than Lee in the AL, so we'll move along to the MVP. Why no love for Morneau? .313/23/121/90/.908, compared to Pedroia's .327/17/78/112/.876, and Morneau did it with much less help. Even Josh Hamilton should get some consideration, being the centerpiece for the best offense in baseball and putting up numbers that blow most other guys away. If he hadn't gotten hurt, we'd have to talk Quentin, too.
Cards wouldn't have finished in 4th w/o Pujols. They only recently dropped there anyway, and previously were right there in the WC race all season (except for leading the division for several months early). Apparently Pujols isn't the MVP because the bullpen blew 30 saves. That makes sense.Cy Young for me is Lincecum/Lee as well. Haven't paid enough attention to AL to have an MVP thought. NL MVP for me is Pujols, although I know he'll lose it somehow. Maybe they can find a token Philly to give it to again.
  6. I'll ressurrect this thread for you all by letting you know that in my 27 years on this planet there is not a scarier sight in baseball than looking up and seeing Pujols at the plate. Maybe it's because he's in the Cubs division, and I missed a lot of Bonds road games because they were so late, but when he is up I am practically writing at least a single on my scorecard and getting ready to write more before he even steps in the box. Even like 80% of his outs seem like line drives that someone has to make a play on. He's really ****ing scary.
They'll still find a way to not give him MVP award again.
  7. I dont think putting Wainright in the pen for the rest of this season would be a mistake. He could go back to the rotation next year, giving them the time to sign a closer without losing any prospects.
I think it makes him a bit slow coming back as a starter next year.I'm salivating at the idea of full seasons from Wainwright and Carpenter next year.
  8. ASG is always about offensive statistics. If Yadi can ever get a situation where he's driving in a good amount of runs, he's got a chance. He's worked himself from a .215 hitter up to about a .300 hitter so far. He's come a long way....and no one can really touch him defensively.

  9. QFT... It was ONE awful game... F'in Knee jerkersedit: Can u add "Ganseynogle is a douchebag" to the poll options???
Rick Ankiel's pitching career disagrees. Seriously, I don't think it's over, but the guy seriously looked like he wanted to vomit out there. I felt bad for the guy.
  10. It wasn't unexpected. Almost everybody epected the Indians to trade him to the Brewers. The Brewers are going for it all. They trades away their prospects (and their future) and they don't have a good chance of signing CC and as far as I know, they don't have a big chance of resigning Sheets. They really are going for the win here, cuz their future looks bleak.
If they aren't going to be able to resign Sheets, then they really do need to go for it now. For a team that is consistently in the hunt, I don't like the rent-a-player strategy, but if you only got 1 shot, might as well take it.
  11. Reposting in the Cardinal's thread, as I feel ya'll deserve the complement...
I say cheer him once for all the awesomeness that he brought (we don't make the 2004 Series without what he did in the NLCS). After that, boo him like any other Cub. Can't really blame the guy for wanting to continue his career, and it's not like he had tons of options after both STL and SD had basically said "we dont' want you anymore".SD was never really a good fit for Edmonds w/ that pitcher's park they play in.
  12. Heh, you should have seen the face my dad made when I told him statistically Martinez has a good case for being the most dominant of all time. Blasphemy obviously for someone that grew up in La in the 60s.It also took a few months of me constantly harping on the subject for him to come to realize Juan Pierre is useless.
Well, you should've realized then you couldn't reason with him. Anyone should be able to reasonably see that.
