  1. January Goals:5K+ cash hands (enough to keep up Goldstar on Stars at least)+$1500 at .5/1 and 1/2 NLAny positive ROI in MTTsI'm trying to set the bar reasonably low for the first month of the year so I can get off on a positive footing.
  2. Dealmaking is just a way of limiting variance. I see a lot of guys who scratch out a meager living on poker who are perfectly happy guaranteeing two months' rent rather than taking a shot a six months' worth. As long as people continue to lay their own money to enter tournaments, dealing is going to happen across the board.
  3. I was going to use a condom, but then I figured "When will I ever be in Haiti again?"...
  4. Having just spent over an hour reading that entire thread and then opening my email to find a very nice email from my good pal Lee Jones... well, let's just say I'm happy I play where I play. Any idiot could tell you it all comes down to customer service in the end.
  5. Depends on your bank. Could take a few business days.
  6. ESPN's parent company is Disney - I'm guessing they don't want to get into the gaming business. Acquiring television rights is one thing, actually acquiring the brand itself would be a tremendous regulatory and public relations headache for a company that prides itself on a family-friendly image.
  7. Well, no, there are other, larger, gaming companies, such as Las Vegas Sands. LVS has a market cap of over $30B, more than twice Harrah's, and much larger than MGM's as well. See: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/co?s=LVSThis obscures the point, however, that possibility of Harrah's being broken up is speculation only at the moment. Since Apollo and TPG have publicly thrown their support behind the Harrah's business model, it would seem that there is a very real possibility they will keep the company as is. Again, the modern private equity market is not about buying companies and ripping them a
  8. Sorry, but this is not a good idea. The integrity of the game demands that it is run by an insitution without an interest in any of the outcomes. Harrah's Entertainment meets this standard, and it's one of the reasons they don't let employees participate. If a group of poker players want to buy the brand, and agree to meet corporate standards and not participate I guess this could work. Given Doyle's recent stock-related issues, I'm guessing he's not in any hurry to get into anything like this. Not for a large multinational corporation, no. I don't know what direction Harrah's will be t
  9. I love reading your posts and being reminded of the single worst moment of my childhood by your avatar.
  10. actually, not to be a pain myself, but would someone please mind looking mine up and PM'ing the results as well? rgold79 on stars. thanks.
  11. Why not just use your god-like powers to afflict us all with boils and locusts?
  12. Put down the comics my young friend, you need to get laid in the worst possible way.
  13. I think if David Koresh ever posted on internet message boards this is what what threads he started would feel like.
  14. Hey Now! I have been nothing but supportive of you from the beginning of your noble endeavor. By all means, keep reaching for that rainbow with my blessings.
  15. Why do you want to be like Steve Dannenman? He freely admits to being the 4th best player in his home game. You're beating yours to the tune of being able to drop out of high school and play it full time. Maybe pick your role models better?
  16. Off the top of my head...Chris Moneymaker vs. Jennifer TillyJohnny Chan vs. A-Rod
  17. Somewhere out there is a DVD of Robert Varkonyi with members of the cast of The Sopranos teaching poker tips. But the site where you used to be able to buy them ( www.wiseguyson.com ) looks to be no longer running.
  18. 7 or more???? Can you please provide me a list of people who have won seven tournaments with top prizes greater than $1M? Your standards are absurd.
  19. The chicken sandwich and coke are way +ev. Still, I would have bet the chili for value. I think you left one on the table there. Please use a hand converter next time. Nh though.
  20. Again, totally true. My point was simply that by calling every time anyway, you will still win enough hands to make this a profitable play over the long term.
  21. Right. I totally agree on this. I think I mentioned in my original response that it would have to be the result of a number of factors in combination to get me to consider letting them go. Top of that list would definitely be my stack and the pusher's in relation to the blinds and where we stood in the tournament. And yes, passing up an edge at any point in a tournament is stupid.
  22. Off the top of my head, I can't remember a single instance in which I have folded KK preflop in a tournament either. My point was that you may be able to make a better justification for it in a tournament setting, where ROR takes on greater importance.
  23. Well, it's one thing to say you don't like the hotel; it's quite another to take a big dump on the bed right before you leave. Personally, I've picked up a lot from this forum, just as I have from twoplustwo. And RGP. It's a big ol' internet out there... What was your expectation in writing your first post? Some kind of mass revelation?
  24. Well, um, open ended draws do not mean you're a 99% favorite. You are going to lose to them many times, even when you have a set. If you lose with quad kings against quad aces, please do not waste your time wondering if you've done anything wrong. It's bad timing. Do yourself a favor and play 15-25K hands as fast as you possibly can. In no time you'll become immune to pretty much everything that happens at the table and just think about making correct decisions.
  25. In a tournament you have only a finite number of chips, which if you lose you can no longer play. For this reason, ROR must always be an important factor in considering a move. Assuming you practice smart BR management, in a cash game, you risk losing a single buy in, and can reload at any time. On the balance, am I advocating frequently folding KK preflop in a tournament? Absolutely not. If I felt I had even a small edge in the hand I'm running to put my chips in. However, if my read on a situation leads me to believe that my ROR might be too high to merit the benefit of calling in that
