  1. There really aren't very many Jews, and several thousand years of unending persecution have a way of generating close-knit communities. In that sense one's identity as a Jew becomes more important than whether or not one is religious. This partly explains why Jews are pragmatic (and obsessive, to some extent) about who is considered a Jew. Basically, if your mother was Jewish, you are considered a Jew for life. Not believing in God or even having been raised by people of a different denomination do not disqualify one from being counted as a member of the Jewish community.
  2. You're also forgetting that the reason he played out of his roll in the first place was that he wanted the opportunity to play two hands of NL with Mike Matusow, not necessarily to take a shot. I think that's what set off some people's Ridiculous-O-Meter.
  3. I assume you're driving in from the West? I really like the stretch of I-80 between Reno and Elko in a "Oh God I hope my car doesn't break down" kind of way. It's peaceful.Edit: You're from San Jose. This post has absolutely zero to add. I'm posting it anyway because I like Elko.
  4. Wouldn't you just take the sum of the two rates - -1bb/100 + 2bb/100 = 1bb/100 -and then just calculate ROR as if you were a 1bb/100 player?
  5. I'm still calling, but no one mentioned the possibility that he has AxJh. You could make a very reasonable case for him holding this hand, hitting the nut straight on the turn and smooth calling the raise.
  6. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat...p;vc=1&nt=3More info for you. Sad that I knew where this was.
  7. Too many people, mostly people who don't stay around very long, are horrible at objectively assessing where they stand as a poker player. A long string of losses is "an epic run of bad variance." Maybe. But the key to improving is to be honest with oneself. So, I thought I would share with you (none of whom I have ever met in real life, incidentally) as honest an assessment of my own game as I can. If you feel like sharing, go ahead and post your own below. I have been serious about poker, although nowhere near a full-timer since 2002. 2006 was my first winning year, and that was the re
  8. What site? Given how poorly you're running I might sit down and hit repeated 2-outers on you.

  11. lol at you apologizing for offering me free money. rgold79 on stars, but really, no need to ship. best of luck man.
  12. This thread has ventured deeply into awesomeness, and I applaud you all. Also, if Mike did have a negative net worth, and I were holding $1 in my hand, my net worth would be infinitely more than Mike's.
  13. right when he says "gg" you absolutely must say "pinch pinch motha-******" right before spiking the 3. This is a must.
  14. This is not the "show one, show all" rule. That applies to when a player shows his hand to another player at the table, in which case everyone at the table has the right to see the player's hand. Any dealer that does the above is applying rules incorrectly. The only case where a person is required to show both cards is when showing down a winning hand.
  15. All right... I made my picks but I'm at work so I can't ship the 10. Mark me down as in and I'll send over the $$$ on Stars when I'm home. I'm good for it, I don't plan on using up my creditability over 10 bones.name is rgold79 across the board.
  16. This now officially renders my Mitch Hedberg-Richard Jeni buddy comedy screenplay completely worthless. Anyone want to buy it on eBay?
  17. Eh... my gut feeling is it's a waste of time generally to ask a question which basically boils down to "how do I maximize value when I have quads?" Hands like this come around so infrequently that there's no sense gameplanning too heavily around them. Most of the time when the deck really hits you like this it comes at the expense of your opponents having nothing and you're just not going to win a very big pot. As it is, I probably would have played this hand as you did at .02-.04 or 60-120, and hope my opponent paid me off with a deuce or a hand like A-7.
  18. Well since misery loves company I guess I should mention that I bought some girl some very expensive things yesterday playing 5-10 400 max NL at Hollywood Park. First when I was too stupid to lay down AA on a QQQXX board even though I knew she had quads and I was being a payoff monkey letting her felt me, and then again when KK<88 all-in on an 8-high flop, where even as I was pushing my money into the pot I made sure I had a few singles to tip the valet with on my way out the door. I seem to do very well in the 3-5 200 max games and get crushed every time I move up so maybe now I'll take
  19. True. I should have specified a little better about where I find it most effective. As with pretty much any resteal, I'm looking for guys with medium sized stacks who have shown an inclination to fold in the past. Beyond that, I like to do it with hands that are likely to be live and will offer me more than one way to win should I get repopped. So for a resteal I'm probably more likely to try it with a hand like 24s than I am a hand like K8o. With the 2.5X raiser, I just bump my internal estimate of how often he'll fold slightly and correspondingly widen my resteal range. But, yes, moderat
