  1. I once tipped a dealer half the pot. It was an 8-16 game and I needed a gutshot 10 on the river to win the hand. I told the dealer after the turn that if he put up a 10 I would give him half the pot. Sure enough, my miracle 10. There was multi-way action so I believe he dropped more than a c-note down his toke box!

  2. you mean the lunatic who is serving a life sentence for kidnapping a hostage because he thought the world was coming to an end? great representative to spread the word lol.
aren't most religious people lunatics?ummm, maybe fanatics is better word
  3. You tip the minimum, your gonna get the minimum service, but if you go the extra mile and toss the dealer a FEW (a redbird is generous) dollars, then i guarentee that dealer is gonna watch out for you, and pass the word on to others, i.e. when a floor decision is required, selective language can be used to retell the events so that the outcome benefits the better tipper. Believe it or not, it happens.
This is disgusting. So u say tip an extra buck or two so u can have the dealer in your hip pocket? I'm not looking for handouts from dealers and I don't need a dealer to "watch" out for me. If a dealer plays favorites, that is the problem of the dealer and the dealer should be terminated.
  4. For me, it's about how much I win. If I steal the blinds, I'm not going to tip and I dont see a problem with that. Now it's funny how you mentioned that we should tip the dealer for running the game smoothly. One of my largest tips was when a dealer screwed up. I had KQ, there was J-9-x on the board. On the turn was an 8 and then for some reason, the dealer immediately burn and turned the river. We all in unison say "Whoa!" and he flipped over another 9. Floor was called over and said the 9 would be put back into the deck and the deck would be shuffled. The first thing on my my mind was "What if a 10 came up?" Sure enough, a 10 came up and everyone was bummed out. It was checked to me and I just had to bet. Everyone folds except for one chick who kept reraising me and finally she just called she had the Queen high straight while I had the King high straight. With that, I made sure to give a nice tip to the dealer.
This thinking disgusts me and would give the impression of collusion to the rest of the table. I know it wasn't collusion but it gives the impression of it.
  5. I think tipping every dealer at the end of their shift is not the thing to do.For starters, it makes everyone else at your table look bad. Extra tipping is great but I would reserve it for only the top dealers or one who pushed u pot after pot. And then I would throw them at least a red bird at the end of his/her shift. This would be on top of a dollar or two tipped after a winning hand.Tipping each dealer after their shift rocks the boat and shows up the rest of the table. Reserve it for the very best, over tip, and it will make more of an impact.

I was playing at Bay 101 today in San Jose, and I noticed when I tipped the dealer the kept putting the chips back in the chip tray, and obviously wasn't taking the chips for themselves. I stopped tipping after I noticed that. I don't know if Bay 101 has a rule that other cardrooms or casinos have, but it looked like they were not accepting tips. Usually I'm a generous tipper.
In some casinos, before a dealer starts his 8 hour shift or whatever, he gets a bank. The bank will be usually around 300 dollars of chips that are used to make change during hands or buy people in. Your tokes were going into his tray, but when he cashes out his bank whatever is beyond the original 300 is his toke wages. Not sure, but I bet Bay 101 dealers don't carry around toke boxes. They just have a different way of doing things. But don't be afraid to ask"Excuse me, do you accept tips??" I'm sure u will get the right answer.
I never play at casinos that require tips, I don't agree with it.
So I guess you don't play in any cainos? Tipping dealers is almost universally encouraged, not required. You don't have to tip, but be prepared for nasty glares and some whispers if u choose never to do so. Tipping is part of playing in a casino, which that and rake make internet poker seem like heaven.
  6. It is just an assumption that he is a strong player, but he has tim covered and he got those chips somehow. In poker I make someone prove he is a bad player instead of prove he is a good player, it's a much safer way to address the situation. If his play is like this now and he has lots of chips I make the assumption that he is an accumulator that is putting on pressure, maybe that is too big an assumption, but with no reads I'm pushing with my QQ. Maybe he flopped AJ and thought he would "trap" our AK here or some garbage, but I think it's more likely he has a mid PP and is defensively betting, while also getting information on our hand. Also, he must not be all that bad if we are disagreeing on the correct move here, maybe the play isn't as novicey as it looks.
We just have different philosophy. Like I said before, aggressive play is good at the final table or near it. Since this situation is mid tourney or around, I'd rather wait for a less complex situation to get my money in. If you are following your instincts, this is cool. I have encountered this scenario before, and more times than not the player ace Ax. This is just my experience. Your play is more gutsy and may work out in your long run.
  7. A good habit is to just throw every dealer a dollar after a winning pot. If the pot is large, then maybe two bucks is good.I think most dealers nowadays expect a tip every hand and there performance suffers. If they don't follow the action, constantly talk about miscellaneous, or are rude, then I wouldn't go out of my way to toke. In other words, consider stiffing the really bad ones and reward the good professional ones with an extra dollar or two.

  8. I've final tabled 4 MTTs this week, 3 100's and a 5. I took down the five (typical) and got 10, 10, 9 in the hundreds (sigh). Sorry I dont throw rail me threads up all the time, but if you are going to question my tournament play because you wrongly disagree on this play, then I will tell you my results. I play tourneys successfully.
Let me first say I didn't mean to question your tournament success. I was trying to say u needed more tournament experience to see more situations and hands etc.. Because I believe your view to be more of a skillful point of view on your part, rather than coming from experience. You say alot about your opponent, but how would u know this particular player's tendencies?? We are mostly just guessing.
He is the one getting the information on the flop, not you, that turn is an auto pot by him if he is putting out the min bet on the flop and is a strong player.
You say something interesting here:"and is a strong player". Unless we have some kind of read on this player, we don't know what kind of player he really is. But would a strong player limp p/f, call a big raise, then bet min. on the flop. I think u would agree this a novice player or a beginner. And being so, thats what makes a true read that much tougher.
  9. The only PP I'd consider not pushing with here are QQ-AA.
So u would push all ur money in with 4-4 or 5-5? Problem with this thinking is that if u get called, u prob are beat. Plus, with blinds only 600, racing is not ideal yet.
I'm also pushing all over the top of that weak arse bet. That bet doesn't even register to me, I was going to fire out at the pot anyways, he knows that, so that trash bet means nothing to me.
This hand smells so much like an ace-ten or weaker ace. The guy calls 4,000 pre-flop so I think most likely hands are weak ace or pocket pair. If u think he has trash, what hand do u think he has? If he truly has nothing, calling him down will win the pot just as pushing him on the flop. It's not like there are many draws on the flop, and flop texture is a key to playing this hand as well.
As basecome said earlier, you treat it as though the bet isn't even there. I think of these small bets as donations.
No offense, but it sounds like u need to get some more tournaments under ur belt. This strategy will get u knocked out of tournaments often when it wasn't necessary. I believe your aggressive play is more suited for FINAL TABLE or two table play.
  10. The only PP I'd consider not pushing with here are QQ-AA. The other one's I'm pushing all in or folding PF. I'm also pushing all over the top of that weak arse bet. That bet doesn't even register to me, I was going to fire out at the pot anyways, he knows that, so that trash bet means nothing to me.
So flawed I don't know where to begin. Think I'll go to the casino first....
  11. he's donating like 26billion dollars to charity. if he didnt believe in god would he still go to hell?if you live your whole life helping people and being a good person, following all of jesus's teachings, but you dont believe in god are you going to hell? would god send someone who denies him to hell even though their entire life was devoted to being a good person? say they were a firefighter or peace corp worker, or soup kitchen director. everything they did was good, they just don't belive in god. i want to hear opinions from believers and non believers.
Bill Gates and others like him would be first in line for heaven. It is the soul that matters and the spirit within. For example, do you think a man who attends church every Sunday and believes in God, but robs old ladies is going to heaven? Of course not. I believe one must have virtue to enter the gates of heaven. (gates of heaven--nice play on words!)
  12. I am browsing this topic for the first time, seeking God, seeking answers. And what do I find? Some guy writing in his diary that he drove on a slick road. WOW!! How enlightening!! Now I can feel free to give the church my hard earned cash every Sunday. Hell, maybe twice on Sunday. Oops, the word "Hell" slipped out. Oh well, maybe I'll empty my savings account too and ship it to the church.

  13. You don't need to be so nice with me :club: If i'm in Micro Limits, it's to learn playing with money, so i don't plan to win the WSOP 2007... Wanted advices about the amount of money i put in the pot etc...
play was fine except checking the river. I think a pot bet on the river is the play.
  14. My name is Mtdesmoines. And I have a problem with Big Slick. I can't lay it down. Suited or not, I always believe it's the best hand before the flop. I always believe it's the best hand after the flop. If someone invites me to put all my chips in, and I'm holding Big Slick with a flop that has a K or an A in it, I put my chips in without even thinking. It usually results in losing a solid night's work in accumulating chips. I think my Big Slick aggression has only worked once in three months -- I chopped with someone similarly afflicted. We laughed, looked at each other, shook our heads, and went about our way, each knowing the other had a Big Slick problem, but neither of us willing to deal with it. Can someone kick me in the *** whenever I get Big Slick, please?
You are not alone. Several top pros have difficulty playing big slick and play it differently. I remember a story when Phil Ivey backed someone in the 5 Diamond or Star Bellagio tourney a few years ago. Iveys only request was for the guy to never fold AK pre-flop, no matter how many raises he faced. The guy made the final table.People tend to give up on AK when they consistently lose with it and then play it different. When they play it less aggressive or not at all they don't maximize when it wins. Consistency is a big key and to ride out the bad streaks.
  15. This of course leads to the question... why post in micro at all if you admit youa. don't understand itb. don't want to learn to understand it???
Because I like to help the little people.
  16. Who said my pocket pair was little? All I said was that it was a pair smaller than aces, with an ace on the flop. KK is a little pair now? It doesn't matter whether I have 22 or KK, if my opponent hit their ace I can't win.
This is what I was talking about. You posted this after I said play your small pocket pair differently. In the above quote, u say a pair smaller than aces. Now u say u meant to say queens. All im saying is none of this info. was in the OP.
