Sorry you're right. I had the villain's hand as 8s9s (which does make it a 60-40 situation).Regardless it is a cash game not a tournament. You already have money in the pot and you are a (slight) favorite. If you lose you can reload - I'd happily flip a slightly biased coin all day long. I'd be happy to play some cards too - I'm in Ottawa but have lots of reasons to go to Victoria. I'll come out soon - looks like the end of June is doable. I could be there for the Friday of the July long weekend.Where is this room and what stakes do you want to play?

ya easy call on the second hand. its a total coin flip. you're ahead like 60=40, having to call 53$ into a pot of 70$, and you already are in in the hand for 7$. Insta call!!!! P.S. Where is this room, I wanna come play, new to victoria

hand #2 - i certainly do not think it is as cut and dry as the general concensus seems to be, insta call, when i take into consideration all of the outs that he has to make up his hand running 3 nines 3 tens 9 spades and 4 jacks. of course i did call, rather quickly as well, and of course he hit a spade on the turnNot to be picky but you are far ahead in this hand and have to call everytime.BTW maybe we can start a trend - if you guess the villains hole cards he has to show you before you put anymore bucks in the pot. It would do great things for my bankroll . . .

I play 1/2NL live but don't measure my success by BB/hour. I just keep track of wins and hours played and calculate and hourly rate. Currently I'm at ~$27/hr but I do take my expenses (mostly munchies and beer) out of that number so I guess the real return on the poker portion is closer to $30.If I do the math right that works out to 15BB/hour - which would be crushing the game - however I only have about 140 hours in this year so I think it is a little early to tell if the win rate is sustainable.

The etiquette in my game is either to announce when you will play to when you sit down (i.e. it's 6pm now and I have to be home by 11 or call my divorce attorney), or give the table a rounds notice that you want to leave. We had a funny moment a few weeks ago. A new player showed up and asked if he could play. He wanted to know if he could go all in on the first hand (he only brought $20) and then if he won could he stand up and take his money. The answer was sure - no problem - but only if you don't feel like ever playing again!Of course if you are down on the night then you are more than wel

What Is The Best Way To Track Performance In Nl
silicon replied to silicon's topic in General Poker Forum
I should have probably been a little more specific as to my reason for asking. I am not trying to make a living off of poker - I suspect I would need to dramatically improve my skills and pack up the family and move to Vegas to do that - but I am trying to get a handle on when I should move up in games. Right now I am playing in a 1/2 NL game in a backroom bar that is convenient to where I live (and is reasonably safe - the cops drop in now and again, one of the regulars is a retired police mandarin, and the bank is only around $2-$3K a night - not much of a crook magnet). There is another roo -
What Is The Best Way To Track Performance In Nl

I definately use the beer bottle system when deciding whether to take someone's big bet seriously or not - my game is made up of a mix of serious players, social drinkers and the one guy who was so drunk that he went to the bathroom and never came back. He still had chips so we kept dealing him in and folding his blinds. The waitress eventually found him passed out in the kitchen - woke him up - and then he wanted to play again. Didn't take to long to relieve him of the rest of his stack.(We did take up a collection to pay for his cab ride home - we're not complete assholes ) -
I am playing live 1/2 NL. I have tried to keep track of the number of hands played per session but short of bringing a little notebook to the table with me - which I think may not go over too well in my backroom game - it is quite hard to accurately track the exact number of hands played. I have tracked hours played, money won (and lost on occasion) and I have taken some samples to give me an estimate of average hands dealt per hour (it is right around 20).I remember reading in one of DN cardplayer articles that he used to benchmark his play by dollars/hour. Is this the gold standard or is th

1-2 nl - how do i play under these house rules?
silicon replied to silicon's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
We had a pretty good turnout at the game last night. The bank ended up being a shade over $2100. I played by my strategy - raise aggressively preflop with a much wider range of hands than normal, then play very TAG post flop except when I get good reads in which case I'm just playing their cards not mine.I was stuck for the first few hours and found myself down $260 but ended the night +$410 net of drinks and tips. Thanks for the advice everyone.Silicon -
1-2 nl - how do i play under these house rules?
silicon replied to silicon's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
It really is a great game - I'm planning on going tonight! There are couple of other rules I haven't mentioned. First the preflop raises are max $10 and there are a maximum of 3 raises preflop regardless of the size of the raise. That is if UTG raises $2, MP+1 raises $4 and the CO raises another $4 then that is it for the bets preflop. This rarely happens though. Mostly it is one raise and a bunch of callers. The other issue is the buy in. You are only allowed to buy in for $20 when you first sit down. I don't know where this rule came from but hey - it's not my game and sometimes in life you ha -

I have adjusted my normal game to suit these rules and so far it seems to be working (running tab is in my blog)My main issue - besides donking off my stack once I accumulate it - has been trying to avoid becoming too predictable. The way I am getting around this is simply to decide to make my only raise $10 regardless of position or starting cards. I have found that the post flop play in this game is much more important than preflop play - which makes sense as this game is essentially LHE preflop switching to NLHE post flop. I have little to gain by varying my preflop raise other than telegra -

It was certainly nailbiting time in the overtime with Calgary. Thank god they took it down - I don't know if I could have handled the two week Olympic break. You can't really blame Carolina for choking against the Pens though. It's always tough to play back to back games and even tougher when the first one is an away game and then you have to hop on a plane and travel home for the second game. Good luck in the next pool - let me know if you want any advice :lol:Silicon (IceChips)Vegas Baby Vegas!

Just can't watch the last period of the Flames game.

But in the first FCP survivor pool I went out when St. Louis beat Detroit for like the first time in a decade and at the last minute I changed my pick and went with the lightning - a brilliant move in hindsight
