  1. What a bunch of Nervous Nellies.
Yeah really! Some people need to look up from their computer screen and realize the world is more than furtive trips to 7-11 and triple dead bolts on the door. This is my first visit to Mexico City and granted I'm staying in the Santa Fe district which I understand is one of the nicer ones but I have to say I've been very impressed with the city, the people and the security. There are security and police visible all over the place, shiny new office buildings with pretty spectacular architecture, expensive cars and great restaurants. It's also pretty reasonable compared to other large cities though hotel prices are pretty crazy (mine is $400/night and I would compare it to a Hyatt or Sheraton while the price is more in line with the Four Seasons).Take away the narrow zone along the US border that's dominated by narco traffickers and sweatshops and you have a huge country with a lot of history and pride as well as some pretty damn fine Tequila.Still no poker though I did score a suite at the Azteca stadium to see the soccer semifinals on Thursday.
  2. The only live poker I've been able to find are electronic tables at a casino chain called "Play City" but I don't think they are in Mexico City. The Hipodromo is supposed to have some of these tables but I haven't checked them out.
Thanks. I will check out the hippodromo. In a city of 25 million you'd think it'd be possible to find a game.
  3. The worst bad beat hand I ever heard of is something like this. I can't remember who it involved, although it was a pro that is rather well known. It was a 9 handed table. After the flop, one person with a pair of 10's raised to 3 times the big blind. The next player, who held a pair of kings, re-raised to double the pot. The big blind, who also held a pair of 10's, folded. The original raiser, holding the other pair of 10's pushed all in, and the pair kings called. The dealer, while getting ready to deal the flop, dropped the deck accidentally into the muck. The floor ruled that the dealer would need to reshuffle the deck with the mucked cards prior to dealing the flop, which she did.And of course, one of the mucked 10's hit the flop, and the pair of kings were cracked, at which time the big blind told the table he had mucked the other two 10's. I can't remember the pot size, but I know it was significant since it was a large stakes cash table.
TJ Cloutier was involved in this one. It's a story in one of his books. As I recall he was on the winning end.
  4. It was a 5/10 limit game so I won enough money to fill my car with Premium Gas.
Very nice. My car doubles in value when I do that!On another note any sign of the WSOP pool prizes. I had planned to give the hat to a buddy for his birthday on Sept. 28th. I'm not being cheap but he's a big fan of the game and it's something you can't get in stores.
  5. In your example the 89 was never leading. When I think bad beat I think about somebody going perf perf and hitting a one outer on the river like I did a couple days ago. I had 89 off and the other guy had 10 10 with a flop of 3 8 10 rainbow in a limit cash game. Turn 8 and river 8. I imagine he wasn't very happy.
Fair enough. I imagine that throught the course of 50B hands on stars there's been someone who's lost a 6 figure sum to a runner runner perfect situation.Of course your game could have been 4k/8K blinds in which case you're probably the winner!
  6. A $50 bonus for 4,500 FPP's isn't a great use of your points. I suggest you play the 270 fpp 6 handed sit and go hyper turbo sats for the Sunday Quarter Million and when you qualify unregister and you'll have the $T that if you play tourneys you can use yourself or sell to others and the $T trade at very close to par to real money.
Good advice Bob. I played 5 of these (280FPP though but I think its the tourneys you were talking about). Total investment of 1400 FPP - scored 3 tourney tickets which cashed out to $33 T$
  7. Never even heard of it, but there is basically nothing over in that area. It's just highway and a strip of Sahara that seems like highway. So hopefully you have a car.
Yeah we'll each have a car. She really just hates walking a mile from the lobby to the room and she really hates the casino. (I know - why is she coming. Let's just say she's not adverse to the topless pools. Benefits of the third wife you know)
  8. I'm heading down to Vegas from June 7-14 - partly for a tradeshow (high end video gear) and partly for the world series. The missus is coming too and she's not really a big hotel type of person. I've convinced her to stay at the Rio for the first few days but she wants to move to a boutique hotel for the last four or five days. She found a place called the Artisan Hotel. From tripadvisor she found the reviews to be all over the place. Some proclaimed it the best little hotel in town - some called it the worst. Has anyone been there? From the price I am really skeptical ($20 a night) but the photos and description are very appealing. If you've been an hated it other suggestions are more than welcomed.

  9. so you don't even have the disclipline to play correctly in a normal ring game that's not rush poker, but you think an arbitrary buy-in rule is going to keep you from losing your cash?the honest truth is this - if your personal finances can't handle you not having that $100 any more, or replacing it the next time you want to play cards, you shouldn't be playing online poker. You can treat poker like entertainment or a business. I'm not saying you can't enjoy playing if you treat it like a business, but imposing hard and fast rules on your entertainment will keep it from being fun, and making irresponsible decisions with your business will cause you to go broke.
Point well taken. It's not a business - it's fun. That being said I should be able to have fun while still maintaining discipline. After all it's not winning the absolute dollars that really counts for me, it's the satisfaction of playing well, making proper decisions and showing the wife an online balance that exceeds the one she saw previously. The only problem I'd have there is having too much money in the poker account that she'd start thinking about ways to spend it.Anyway to challenge myself I'll stick to the $5 buy in level until I have 25 buyins or 250 then move to the 10 game. And to the poster who asked about the hot tub - I got this floaty thing that the pc sits on and a wireless mouse. The biggest problem is losing track of time and potentially having a heart attack - especially since I have a beer cooler within easy reach too.
  10. Granted. But Rush poker doesn't offer lower stakes so that's where I'm beginning. If I lose the $100 I'll sneak another $100 into the account without telling the boss. I do operate better with a goal though so I wanted to know when I'd be safe to move up.
wait a sec 2c/5c just appeared - or i missed it before. So now I'm there. When can I go to 5c/10c?
  11. You're already playing out of your roll.

  12. After years of building to 4 figure bankrolls then blowing it all in an evening playing too high I'm determined to do it right this time (also motivated cause the wife has laid down the law. Play as much as I want as long as I don't lose it all - it's not a money thing though - more of a proof to her that skill is more important than luck)Anyway I'm going to stick with rush poker - it's perfect for my limited attention span and I don't have to go to the home office and multi table on the big monitor _ I can take a netbook in the hot tub and still get in 300 hands per hour.Current bankroll is $100 and I am playing 5c/10c. What do I need to move up to 10c/25c?

  13. I don't know details of the job but if you're interested contact Jennifer Ralston over at Betting Jobs. Her email is jennifer@bettingjobs.comSPAM note: I have no financial or other interest in this position. She is on my LinkedIn account and the job popped up in an automated email. However I am a nice guy and thought that if anyone was to get a job like this it should be an FCP member.

  14. Random curiosity caused me to click the find a pro button on stars and by chance I happened on Boku87. He was playing turbo SnGs - 39 of them at once. I opened up a couple of his tables and he seemed to be keeping up with the action and cashing in a pretty significant amount of the games. Does anybody have a clue how he can do this? I'm picturing a Dr. Evil type dude strapped into a chair working mice with both hands and feet while mainlining coke.
