When To Give Up Protecting Your Hand
FullMontyM1 replied to No_Neck's topic in Other Poker Cash Games
I think both of you guys made great points. From my limited stud experience, I feel like:Playing it fast on 3rd will lead to more variance, more frustration and a little more profitPlaying it slow on 3rd will lead to less variance, less frustration and a little less profitSo it depends on what is most important to you, I think. MontyEDITAlso, I don't remember the exact quote, but I do recall Chip Reese saying something about how it isn't always correct to make the mathematically correct play when you are at a distinct advantage comapred to your opponents. -
I don't think it matters one way or the other. I'd pick a couple of games and focus your attention on them, then branch out when you feel comfortable.Monty

I -really- appreciate the support Canada. I don't mind responding, ad nasuem, to Matt's derogations and accusations. I feel that the give-and-take helps highlight the strengths of my argument, so that they are not lost in a miasmic cloud of babble, balderdash, baloney, blather, bombast, BS, bull, and bunk.MontyPS - Matt, I am sorely tempted to put your quote "You start tossin out logic to throw people off" in my signature, but I recognize that would be uncouth.

Save the chips and gamble more as you approach the bubble, people will tighten up. Attack the middle stacks in position with solid hands, attack the big blind from the small, etc.If the situation was turned around in your post, if you had first action, you can push there and put the other guy to the decision. I understand the value of building up a big stack, but I think there is more value in building up that big stack as you approach the bubble so that you can get a solid cash, rather than gambling in this particular spot. The power of the bubble cannot be underestimated. Lots of people ti

A valid point, but the Weezer dude -did- take some sort of vow of celibacy, right? Or am I just making things up?Monty

This reminds me of the guy from Weezer. He did something similar I think. I don't recall the details.Monty

I've been drinking with some friends and am doing the drunken horse, if anyone cares to join. Right now, I am the only person registereed, unfortunately.Monty

I don't think anyone, absent friends/family of a particular professional poker player, are qualified to make judgements on their qualities as a person.Even friends and family probably shouldn't be in the business of judging other people. When it comes to things that reflect negatively on the players we see on TV, well, I take all that with a grain of salt. We've all seen Arieh being a pos, but he's got a house in the suburbs and a family to support, so he's not being anymore of a jerk than the salesguy who loses a big sale and cusses out the competition.Matusow goes nutzoid and has myriad other

I appreciate Copernicus' moral support, but I don't need any help dealing with you. When you want to discuss things in a reasonable fashion, let me know. I'll be glad to participate.Monty

I think the wheel on the board and the high hearts flush on the board probably account for most, if not all of the difference. There may be another tiny element we are missing.Monty
