funny, because i was just gonna mention this guy in HSNL over there whose using your name and... oh. i see.I post at thisisthenuts.com and 2+2 -
not having PAHUD costs you money.PAHUD costs money, and im cheap. -
it would be to encourage action. same reason the blinds in a 15-30 game are 10 and 15.Thanks :)So, what's the reasoning behind "matching blinds" in pot limit? -
it would have to do with not defending the SB often enough to raises, but i doubt thats enough to overcome a 33% big bet increase.
Maybe not.I would guess that it provide a small increase for your winrate though. Bad players who can't adjust properly will be giving even more up. Of course there are probably some players whose poor blind strategy works better with this structure.Come to think of it, I'm going to read the article again. Didn't make too much sense the first time around.
You mean in the sense that they play too tight out of the small blind?I cant imagine it accounting for that much of a difference...I don't know how dated this info is - I read it in Poker Essays II - but it says that a good player can make just as much at 15/30 than at 20/40, and assume less risk. This is because bad players fail to adjust to the 2/3 blind structure properly, and thus go broke more quickly. -

im gonna disagree here. i dont like this at all. you dont have much fold equity against a lag whose shown interest in the flop. if you think you have the best hand, getting to a showdown cheap is key here, this cannot be cheaper than c/c c/c and you are folding considerable equity if he 3 bets with any hand to which you are drawing live.

you dont understand how poker works, do you.Live games below 5-10 are probably 90% fish. I don't play those limits because you just can't expect to consistently make a profit. Many people will argue that these are the best games to sit, but I'll never buy it. Scott Fishman said the same thing a few months ago on cardplayer. -
aaaaaand your true purpose emerges.EDIT: it seems useful to note that anyone signing up for rakeback through an affiliate that is not listed one of the rakeback review sites, and with no credibility on 2+2, is giving away money.I heards UB's 20/20 NL games were some of the easiest on the net. Well maybe not you guys are talking limit. Party is definately where the fish are at. I play at bayoupoker and betonbet (pokerroom skins) for the rakeback. If any of you want to play bayou and get 50% rakeback through neteller let me know. I'm not an affiliate of them or anything I won't benefit but it's a great bonus. -
here, serious answer: a LHE player can expect a maximum edge of around 2-3bb/100 in a full ring game, depending on rake structure. a NLHE player can expect a maximum edge of 9-12bb/100 in a full ring game, depending on the rake structure. the reasoning? these are the high end of the winrates reported by successful online players with good samples.

this is the stupidest thing ive ever heard. how many hands do you think you could play in a year of live poker? 30 hands an hour for 5 hours every day is only 54,000 hands, and having a 54k hand downswing is very much within the realm of possibility.
Im sorry a cold deck for a year isn't a cold deck at all. You simply are not a winning player if you are a loser for a year.
You asked for some material to back up my claim and i'd say that the LA Times is a pretty reputable source. I'm not going to call up the IRS or the Bellagio and request this info and no one is because they are never going to let it out. Also the article stated that he was +20 million in a 5 year span, not that he went on a hot streak at one point and was up 20 million, but that he made that much profit. Ivey could've easily made 10 million in a good year and then lost 8 the next year getting hit by a cold deck, so that could pretty much negate your argument. Also, although he doesn't "dispute" what the journalist stated don't you he would've said something if he knew he wasn't the overall winner? There is absolutely no way that someone as serious about the game as barry g. doesn't know his stats from every session of that game for the past 5 years. I don't like barry g. but he's a damn good poker player and from what I've read the winner in the big game for the past 5+ years.
He doesn't dispute, but he also doesn't say it's true.... Nobody actually knows except for him, and it's the same for everyone else.....and i'm sure they got that by interviewing him. Unless they somehow have the financial records of everyone playing. I'm sure they don't have any though. Keep the great sources coming. Love those estimates.BTW, I've also heard that Ivey made 10 million last year in cash games. That's more than 20 million over 5 years... so who's to say that Ivey isn't the big winner?
"In the first five years of this poker-crazy new millennium, Greenstein earned more money playing the game than anyone alive—by some estimates in excess of $20 million, a figure he does not dispute."LA Times
Show me the documentation that shows who wins what.Thanks.
hasn't he been the winner in the big game overall for about the past 5 years? i'd say that gives him the right to say that considering the amount of hands he has played against the other top players.
He'd say that about anyone but himself. Doesn't mean anything.
barry g. has been quoted saying that phil is a great player but still doesn't know the game that well.Phil Ivey made a quote in a profile saying "I have more to learn"if this is the case once he learns what he is missing everyone is doomed!!reputation alone has made him millions again the rich dudes taking a SHOT at him.I was at the Golden Nugget during the 2004 WSOP and he was playing in th back corner with Gus,Chan and a few others... just his stare might make you fold a good hand!! -
I know Chris has a PhD in computer science, and I suppose he probably has studied game theory. I don't remember him touting it as much as Bloch, Matt Matros, etc though. Maybe he has and I missed it.his brother is a math prof at UCLA and has published essays on game theor, on which chris is a co-author (i have one of them printed and bound, its very interesting). Anyone here have hands-on experience at a poker table where they have used game theory to their advantage? i use it every day. limping frequencies with AA/KK, bluff frequencies against specific opponent types, raise frequencies with hands that dont expect to win their fair share in order to gain value from big hands, etc. im sure you use game theory too, you just dont realize it, and therefore arent using it optimally.

thats bullsh*t. my girlfriend gave me the whole 'poker takes up too much time' scenario. so i showed her my profit/hr over the last 6 months, then we worked out how many hours a day i would have to work at a real job making 12$/hr (im a student and am fairly unqualified for any decently-paying jobs). lets just say there arent enough hours in a day.If playing poker won't affect when and what you can do with her, tell her.If it does, you are screwed. -
2 monitors, both capable of fitting 4 tables with no overlap. pokertracker, PAHUD, and partymine do most of my player reads. i can crush 1-2 full ring this way, but shorthanded i start to lose value around 7 tables.how the hell do you do that? how do you keep track of your opponents and their play? do you just play ultra-tight?i have trouble playing more than 3 tables at the same time. -
using words you dont understand is -EV. i think you mean obscene.Just before christmas, I bought a new video card for the computer to use with an old monitor. You can get some with up to 4 outputs and then you just customize it to your liking. After the card and installation, it cost me $100 and I can now clear bonuses at an obscure rate. Its all about playing what you feel comfortable with, and poker tracker will rock your face. -
playing 2-4 LHE HU is going to be unprofitable on any site.
-
open 8 tables. play. presto, you're 8 tabling.
Well the dude playing tom mcevoy this afternoon was saying that he plays 8 tables at once.I was wondering how this was possible. If the poker site doesn't allow more than 4 tables to be played, then you're just going to have to play at multiple sites.2 monitors are obviously better than 1, otherwise I'd suggest 4 in each corner, 2 horizontal in the middle, and 2 vertical through the middle.I'm not entirely clear on what you're really asking though. -
your system seems foolproof. perhaps you should write a strategy book.

i have no idea what hand qualifies as a low suited non-connector, but i have a feeling you should be playing them out of the bb.I probably do call with 8/10 off. I dont call with _anything_ suited.Low suited non-connectors are getting dumped. -
heh, i yawn at the 50bb swings i have every hour now. 6 max is a cruel mistress.
I think huge downswings can actually be beneficial. Makes it a lot easier to tough out the smaller ones. Much like a fight.yeah sounds like variance can be a whole lot harsher than i've ever experienced. on my current worst streak of -165bb. wish me luck in getting to -250. -
this thread is stupid. mrjones, 5bb/100 is not mathematically sustainable in the 30 game on party.

some of these posts hurt my eyes.

I love people who quote statistics with no idea where they came from, or what they mean. ok, 90% of poker players are losers. how do you know this? you dont. Even if we grant you this number, you still havent considered that 90% of poker players will never post to a poker forum, and most people who contribute to poker forums are actively looking to improve, making the general population of posters here much more likely to be winners than your average player. Also, you suck at life. More intelligence from this story. I talk about my days of a fish and then you say, you suck at life. Ok genius, did I call you a fish? No. over 90% of poker players are losers so it makes sense most people in this forum in particular which is has a high amount of people and traffic, plus people are here because they are fans of teh TV star would contain a high amount of fish. -
except for 5k HU SNGs.As much as a little prick this kid APPEARS to be, he has shown that he is a contender in any tourney he enters. He also has big gamble in him, one of the traits necessary to be a feared opponent. I'll give him my respect. -
what do you do with JTs folded to you in MP2?
very important :!:edit: BTW, also not a good idea to open limp from MP with other hands.
gametime + is messing up...
