  1. I think it all depends on...A) Your playing style. Are you playing to make money, or are you ALWAYS trying to win?B) Are you playing too high buy in tourneys?I've NETTED over $1600 in six months playing MTT at Pokerroom.I have the basic strategy of waiting it out, and making my big moves, AFTER I've secured a spot in the money. Looking at my statistics right now...I've cashed in 21 of 96 tourneys played, won three.(including one tonight!) On average, I beat 78% of the field. I think as long as you're playing a proper tournament strategy, you can pretty much blind yourself into the top third.E
  2. was the ace on the turn or river? Sad that I don't remember, as I said, i was already preparing myself for the next hand...anyway, gotta log off, tell my wife the good news, get my reward
  3. oh, i guess people were watching, lol
  4. I guess nobody cares, lol, but I won it...Last hand, I have 440k, other dude has like 120...I get Aces on the big blind...He raises me 3xbb, I reraise him, double that...he goes all in, he flips over nines... flop...9-5-2I'm already mentally preparing for the next hand, when the turn comes with an ace...game over
  5. for anyone who's wondering, now have a dominating chip lead, with six left
  6. im up 12k since the first post, but now in third...
  7. Hey, if anyone's interested in watching a FCP brother, I'm in second chip position with nine left, in a $5 rebuy at PokerRoom...big stakes, I know.Screen name is same as here.
  8. Dude, I got busted outta my home tourney thursday night with Aces...other dude had K-3. He called my preflop raise (why, I don't know), board came 3-3-K. He pushes all in. I just knew he had AK. Stupid Krablar.
  9. I have actually heard (maybe read), don't remember when, that you should set a limit to how long you play: X no. of hours, X no. of losses or X no. of winnings. I'm also married, and don't get to play as often as I like to, but I have quit after two hands before, after doubling or tripling up. I very well could be wrong, considering I'm the only guy who's agreed with the OP so farbut the way I see it, if you're up way more than you would normally expect to be, you'd also have to expect it to swing back the other way at some point. You don't get up 80 BB in half hour, on favorable table condit
  10. I played at a local home tourney last week with a 50 some people in some rich dude's garage. I wore sunglasses at a poker table for the first time. But that's just because I just got contacts, and they're making my eyes extremely sensitive to light, yes, even indoors. At Spirit Mountain Casino a few weeks ago I saw a dude wearing a shirt that said "Why Are You Wearing Sunglasses at a 3-6 Table?" Love that shirt.
  11. My poker accomplishment of which i am most proud? Being plus $2k since I started keeping records just over a year ago. I'm pretty proud of my 3rd place out of 32 finish in the first tournament i ever played in. (after about a years worth of cash game experience)
  12. I play these tournaments on occasion, for the same reason alot of people play that Nutbar game. It's just good practice for short stack situations. Since the blinds go up so fast, everyone is shortstacked. You get a feel for those tough decisions you have to make, when to make your move, and such. I've actually won two of these, and they've been a big help when I find myself with a shortstack in a regular tourney. Most of the time, though, it'll feel like a waste of money. But as long as you just consider it as practice, they do have benefits.
  13. If $1k is a big chunk of your bankroll, I'd suggest skipping it, unless you truly believe you have a "big chunk" of a chance of finishing in the cash.
  14. what a g a y thread... emoticons are g a y. Especially this one... My first flame!!! That was alot easier than i thought!I'm gonna become a full time flamer!!! just not on this forum, i like it too much.
  15. Come on... get with it man.... It's just bomb.Back off, I'm old skool. lol
  16. I don't care WHAT the situation is... If some guy goes all in ahead of me, and I'm holding AA, I call. Period. The only situation I might fold this is if I'm on the bubble, and shortstacked, but there are a handful of people who will get antied to death before I do. Even then, my desire to finsish higher than 19th would win out most of the time. You have the best possible hand at the moment, and at worst, you're about a 60% favorite. And that's if your opponents both have middle suited connectors, that don't cancel each other out (ie 10-9 clubs, vs. 87spades) In this situation, first guy c
  17. Honestly, (and I could be WAY off here) I'm not sure Beal's desire to keep control of distribution has anything to do with money or ego. THe guy is a very private guy, (try to find a photograph of him) and it's quite possible, he just doesn't want it released, regardless of who wins or loses.
  18. after a session, I'll eat whatever is left over from the dinner my wife made while i was gone. During a session, however, I like to keep it light, usually just some fruit, or crackers or something. Definitely not Del Taco...I agree it's the bomb, but I can't play poker with heartburn, and that stuff gives me heartburn bad...
  19. In the early stages of a tournament, you should see has many cheap flops as possible, especially if you are a decent postflop player. From the small blind, if there are three callers, plus the big blind, you are getting 9-1 to call. There aren't too many hands you should fold in this instance. Keep in mind also, that you will be first to act after the flop. Personally, I'd call in this situation with any two cards, assuming it's early and you still have an average stack. Take your risks early, when mistakes don't hurt as much.
  20. T-R-Y-A-N-G-L-EG-A-R-Y-L-E-N-TA "tryangle" is a clever user name for a poker player named Gary Lent. Get it?
  21. This is all off the top of my head, so bear with me. When you have pocket K's, there is approximately a 4% chance a dude has AA. So let's see here... 4% of the time you're dominated. The other 96% of the time you are AT LEAST a 70% fav. (against AK) but most likely your against a lesser pocket pair, in which case it's a little better than 80%. The only time I'd fold KK to a preflop all in, is if I had a decent chip stack, we were really close to the money, and all I had to do was sit back and let the small stacks ante to death. Even then I'd probably call if he had a smaller stack, so that
  22. I answered "move all in", so my reply was correct. However, I was hoping to share my reasoning, and see if that was correct also. A-7 off is a fairly strong hand five handed. The blinds are coming fast five handed, and they're probably raising fairly quickly. So you have to make a move sooner or later. If it's like most of the quickstart tourney's i've seen, it pays three spots. There's 8000 in play, you have 1100, small blind has 650, and bb has 2200. So there's about 4k between the other two. You have to double up to have a realistic shot at the $, so you can't play conservatively. A-7 i
  23. Here's my thoughts on playing hands like this in the blinds, take it for what it's worth, I'm not what you would call an expert. The way I see it, raising in this situation exposes your hand. You obviously have a strong hand, but one with which you want fewer players to see the flop. To me, a raise here just screams AK or AQ. If you miss the flop, and your opponents are paying attention at all, then they will be well aware of it. So, I will raise from the blinds, usually , only with AA, KK, or QQ, or AK suited. This of course, assumes your playing against players with some skill. Against w
  24. WHo said I didn't remember the threesome? I said the only part i remember "that has to do with poker". :wink:and for the record, Daniel was at the party...not the "afterparty"
  25. This is all good stuff to read. I play casually, and I want to keep it that way. I have no aspirations to "go pro". My aspirations for now is to make a little extra cash playing cards, and having fun. It's fun to win a few hundred dollars a month, and hand a little over to the wife for "mad money". Having to hand over my winnings to pay the rent just doesn't sound fun. For right now, I'm cashing out half my winnings every week, and putting them in an account seperate from my work earnings. If poker earns me enough to buy a new big screen TV before next football season, that'd be cool. In fac
