Okay, off topic, but wtf is a firkin? We have a bar here in town called the Fox and Firkin. It's always bothered me not knowing what that was.

Why?

1) Taking first place in your first live tourney.2)Two first place finishes against fields of 300+ IN ONE NIGHT3)Accidentally registering for a $30 HU match (when you normally play $5) and taking the guy down with a flopped straight flush (5-6-7-8-9 diamonds) against his flopped ace high flush, ON THE FIRST HAND OF THE MATCH. 4) Missing most of a 10 seat SNG because your four year old wakes up crying, then returning to the table to find yourself with the third largest chip stack with only four players left. Then winning. 5) The first time I imported data into Poker Tracker...I am such a geek

Been playing a bit of play money Razz and Omaha Hi-Lo...just wingin' it (but doing alright, it's surprising how many people have NO concept of how to play Razz). Before I commit any of my meager bankroll to these games, however, I'd like to read a bit more. Does anyone know any good books or websites on these games (or any other games, really. As long as they're games I can find low limit online) or even have some good tips themselves? Sorry if this post is a bit jumbled. I got too much sleep last night.

Totally!! I used to play in a weekly Saturday night game, with a few of my coworkers (waiters and delivery drivers), and a couple of bartenders. It's Saturday night, their pockets are loaded with tip money from the past two nights, and they're all getting smashed... nobody wants to play anymore, though. THe only game I can get together is with a bunch of my buddies who are in banking or real estate (plus one insurance agent). Talk about a bunch of tightwads. Still profitable, but it feels more like work.

Yeah, my initial reaction to the OP was that it was retarded question...then I remembered my first trip to the casino, when I started pulling in a pot, only to have it pointed out to me that the other dude's flush beat my straight. As Semaj550 said, We all start somewhere.

fun topic.. chip tricks or chip stacks
joeythep replied to Men the Hellmuth's topic in General Poker Forum
The only chip trick (other than shuffling) I can do well is a modified version of the "Johnny Chan" - if you don't know it, watch Rounders for the fifteen millionth time, but this time pay attention to what johnny's doing in the backflash scene with Mike McDermott...only had a chip twirl on the last chip to drop. My stacks are usually neat and organized. Stacks of 20, bigs in the back, smalls in the front. Any odd stacks containing less than 20 get moved to the front. That's about it... -
I am one of those FCPers who works in the service industry. Here's a brief summing up of my personal philosophy on tipping:Tip whatever you want. I appreciate a big tip, but I'd rather have a small tip and a good attitude about it, than an ******* who tips big. I deliver Pizzas. Some of my favorite customers are the old ladies who just round it up to the nearest dollar... "That'll be 19.49 m'am"..."Here's a 20 hun, you keep the change!" There's a rich asian dude who owns a chain of nail salons in the area. He doesn't order often, but when he does he'll tip roughly the size of the order, but

I've never seen anyone else suggest this, but this is what I use:PrePaid Visa card. No bank restrictions, and if some jerk does get a hold of the number, he can only spend what's on there.

Everyone seems to have slightly differing thought processes on this but everyone seems to agree that they're going broke on this hand. I definitely would have pushed them all in preflop, though. In most of the MTT's i have played (mostly pokerroom/powerplayer) It's not uncommon at all for an UTG player to raise with any pocket pair or good ace. I don't know the original raiser or how he plays, but that's about what I'd expect he has. You have to reraise him preflop to find out. In this situation, with the blinds at 300/600, and you having 15 BB, the only good sized raise you can make is al

Yeah, my son really only watches the kids shows (he'll be three in september) but my five year old daughter actually prefers the Simpsons, Family Guy, King of The Hill, Futurama. You know daddy cartoons.

okay, so it's the 31st. What time?

Just a note...under federal law any gambling winnings over $1000 must have taxes taken out AT the casino. They absolutely will need to see some ID for that.

My son and daughter recently spent an entire weekend refusing to answer to Andruw and Elizabeth, their given names. Naturally Elizabeth wanted to be Dora, but Andruw's selection of characters caught me by surprise. He insisted he was Mailbox from Blue's Clues. He also walked around screaming "Yeti Yeti Yeti!!!" for like three months straight. (From an episode of The Backyardigans, which in my opinion, is the MOST annoying cartoon ever made)

I am a net plus player in tournaments, but have been hovering just below even in cash games. Until i decided to start multitabling last week that is. It's easier to keep myself from being bored when i get an extended run of poor hands, and it's alot easier to keep my mind on performance rather than results, since you don't have just ONE number sitting in front of you telling you how badly you're getting beat...On the other hand, I was 0 for 6 with AA last night, 1 for 5 with KK. But still finished with a 20x BB profit.

Just wondering...If so , list your user names, and what table your at, i'll keep an eye out for fellow fcp'ers. I'm at table timbuktu...same user name as here.

I wish i had wrote that. I'm not gonna single anyone out. To be honest with you, I don't pay attention to the names when i read a flame post. No reason to. The ridiculing of other players might be limited to a few people PER PLAYER, but overall, you can't start a post without it devolving into an insult fest of some sort. I'm fat, I wear glasses, I have a lame ass job, my vocabulary (while greater than most on this forum) is nowhere near genius level. I sometimes use incorrect grammars (like that, lol) and I'm susceptible to the occasional misspeling (ya like how i managed to spell suscepti

I would rather watch the UB show then PSS. Poker SuperStars sucks, because although they are professionals, most of them are 2nd tier players (recognition wise, not necessarily skill wise), and the blind structure sucks. After five freakin' hands it turns into an all in fest, with people going all in with any A K Q or suited connectors, and calling with the same. It's a bunch of races. I agree with everyone else about the celebrity matches. I would rather watch nobodies playing bad poker, FOR MONEY than b-list celebs playing for charity. At least the nobodies have something to play for. The

Is there a thread already started with PokerRoom/ Powerplayer user names? I'm Joeythep on PokerRoom, JupiterDixx on Powerplayer. I'll look out for fcp'ers while i'm there. I did see the ol' "pinch pinch" once. ..

calling a minimum raise with aks??? please explain
joeythep replied to MuckNuts's topic in General Poker Forum
This is just a perfect example of "mixing it up". If he had reraised preflop, you might have been able to put him on AK, especially if you had already seen him reraise with AK. You also don't mention what stage in the tourney it was, how big his stack was, etc. If he was safely in the money, and it was bubble time, that's perfect reason for him to play conservatively. No reason to risk finishing out of the money on what at the time was just ace high. Likewise, if you had been playing aggressively (ie raising with lower pairs, suited connectors and weak aces-which AJ is) preflop, he migh -
Most online poker sites keep stats for you...it's easier to see your wins and losses. For instance, in an instant, I can tell you that in the last three months, i have an hourly loss rate of $5.36 in cash games, and an hourly win rate of $11.87 in tourneys. I can't lie to myself.

This is a tough spot to be in. I'm just gonna kinda think it through as I type. A) you could check. The possible results? A player behind you with an Ace might make a probing bet here. You would most likely flat call, and hope he makes another bet on the turn. If you're up against a typical online player, he will, and his turn bet is probably going to be larger than the first, and he'll be pot committed. You can then raise him for the rest of his chips. Or... a player with another high pair (KK or QQ or TT) would most likely check behind you. Fearing both the overcard and the possible trips.

You think that was dumb? I put Todd on, but not Doyle. Here's the real kicker: I DIDN'T put Ivey on my team...how retarded was that? I think i was drunk when i made it.
