  1. NL Hold'em , 55 players 50$ dollar buy. A modified Deep Stack blind structure. Payouts are 1st - 4th . 5 players Remain. Play at the table is pretty aggressive between Me , Villain and UTG. We had been picking off blinds, and button was moving pretty quickly around the table with everyone folding to raises preflop. Villain was chip leader, and a pretty decent player. He had accumulated about 10k chips during bubble play by raising all in on people's blinds, including myself. UTG won a few coinflips before bubble play to eliminate a few players and amass a decent chip stack, but for the most part, she's been raising with top10 hands and limps with small pairs. 2 hands prior when I was BB , Villain pushed all in to steal blinds. After I let it go, he did it again on my small blind. This didnt rattle me, maybe he was picking up hands, I just didnt like losing 4500 chips in the matter of 2 minutes. Then this hand came up.Hero - 33,000 SB - 14,000Villain (BB) - 58,000UTG - 37,000UTG+1 - 15,000Blinds - 1500 / 3000 (no ante)UTG folds. UTG+1 Calls 3000Hero picks up ( 7s 7c ) and pushes all in , on the button for 30,000 more. ??SB folds.Villain calls , UTG+1 folds immediatly. (Personally if UTG had a good enough hand to call off more then 10% of his stack here, I figured he shoulda pushed and tried to triple up) I table 77's , and Villain turns up "AKo" Flop 10s 4d 2c Turn 10s 4d 2c KcRiver 10s 4d 2c Kc JdAnd Im out , and didnt finish in the money when all I really needed to do was outlast UTG +1 and SB. They were so short stacked , eventually they had to push. Now, of course when my friends found out I went from one of the chip leaders of the tournament, so out on the bubble .. I took alot of critiscm. Here's how I defend my action, and Im just curious if this is justified , +EV , or just play bad. 1: " I play to win , not take 4th or 3rd." 2: Villain folds 90% of the time there, unless its top 10.3: My play was pretty standard bubble play. There argument was : You spent 50 dollars to piss away a nice chip stack , on bubble play .. giving it all to the eventual winner. You should have at least waited til you money'd , and then play aggressive to win. I think first place was around 900 dollars, with 4th being around 125. What do you guys think? Do you NOT push the 7's on button, and maybe just use a 3-5 times BB bet? Maybe my play was wrong, but I had also accumulated 7-10k chips during bubble play,as the SB and UTG+1 were very passive and seemed to be waiting on aces.

  2. I'd fold preflop, check/raise the pot on the flop... As played, shove the turn.Could be way off though. Bad luck.
Why Check/Raise the flop , when your holding the nuts? I contemplated getting in on the turn, but even still .... *IF* He had a set, he was drawing to 10 outs. Was I wrong to trap with this hand? Should I have settled for a much smaller pot with a bet on flop or turn ..... knowing what villan has tho, it appears as if I HAVE to go broke, for not folding preflop.

  4. So , I hate playing at the shitty 5 dollar limits up here in Colorado, but I had the itch to play live so I drove up there last night. I decided on playing at the Lodge for a change of pace. The limit structure is 2 - 5. Anyways , I sit down with $100 , and get hit with the deck 20-30 minutes later. First hand I played, I drew 2 kings, raised to 7 , was capped by others and I just called. There was like 5 callers . Needless to say, I flopped top set , checked it , and it was once again capped before it got to me. Monster pot for these limits. I ended up winning it , and had a nice stack. People were capping it with 22 , AJ , 10 10 , and some other crap. Anyways, this goes on for the next hour or so, I get good cards, flop straights and nut flushes . I ran my stack to 500ish within 2 1/2 hours. Ive been playing at a while at these limits, and at the live card rooms, unless you get smacked in the face with the deck, running yoru stack up this big this quick is kinda rare. Especially with the rake. I didnt want to be rude and hit and run the table, so I decided to stay 1 more hour. Went outside , smoked a cig , and set an alarm on my phone to buzz me when to get up. Ive been losing live up there recently , so I really wanted to bag a nice win and get outa there. I played pretty tight , winning only 1 or 2 hands during this hour ( maybe just some blinds or 1 raise) , and decided to grab some racks. As I started rackin / coloring up , the players at the table became visibly and verbally annoyed. Infact, it was so bad 2 of the other players , that had around 300 in chips started racking chips too .. This just sent the rest of the table into a frenzy , all attacking me for breaking up the game because I was scared money, and didnt want to lose it all , and how i should be giving them a chance to win thier money back. So , before I could finish racking my chips, the 2 others were already done, and cashed out , and now the rest of the table was asking for a table change "cuz of this ******* in seat 5". So , if you were me and you ran it up pretty good pretty quickly , how long would you have stayed? Obviously, the play had tightened up so much when I went BIG , and the cards didnt come, so I figured time to bail when the alarm went off.

  5. Meh, forget the biggest pots you guys are listing. I want to talk about Benyamines raise on the turn while holding the absolute nut hand. I thought this was stupid. He already sold sammy on him having the best hand here, and should have just called the turn, and then bet the river. Since when is re-raising while holding the nut hand a good idea? Sure he got called on the turn by sammy, but the hand was over right then and there and no action came to the river. IMO check call and make a wierd bet on the river in hopes of getting raised.

  6. If you really wanted to know how you would fare without all the hoopla of you being a poker icon , do what Tyra banks did . She dressed up as a fat woman , made out to be homely. She walked the streets of New York and visited restaurants and various locations that she went to as her real beautiful self .. and quickly she found out how differently people treated her. Ok get the idea?Dress up as your jamaican counterpart , fly to some indian casino that offers the bottom of the limit games , and give yourself a bankroll. I think youll find that its alot more difficult than you give credit for. And by an 8-16 limit game, that game has some BAD players in it, but if your playing that high , your not playing with the donks yet. My suggestion is again , try the very beginning limit game or a 1-2 NL game. - Jim

  7. I could do it all over again if I HAD TO. The truth is, though, that it's not a realistic idea because of my status and the fact that if I needed money to play poker I could get enough so that I wouldn't be playing small anyway. As for playing in the smaller games, my people reading skills would actually be WAY BETTER as novice players have more patterns and tells than good players do. If I played small limits (live) I would cross book with anyone in the world. I've done this in the past with Ray D. in an $8-$16 limit hold'em game and it seemed pretty obvious to me that despite him being an awesome player, he simply couldn't earn as much as I could. He didn't get the gifts I would get, and he didn't try to manipulate his opponents verbally into doing exactly what he wanted them to do.
Daniel, I understand that your reading ability would be great against novice players, the only problem is .. At those limits , say a 1 - 2 NL game , the players change in and out of that same so often because it attracts alot of tourists. Do you think you would have enough time to learn betting patterns or what not, in time to sheer the sheep? Its not like the big game where you have weeks and months to develop reads on the same players that play it constantly . Its not a revolving door of different playstyles every 10 minutes. You said it yourself , that even tho Ray D is an awesome player , he wasnt getting the kinda "gifts" i e action on hands that you were getting. And im thinking the only reason you were getting those gifts is because of who you are. Youve been very lucky to give this representation of yourself in the public, and from Television we believe we know how you play. But if you didnt have that stage to perform on, and the public didnt know who you are .. my theory and again this is all extremely hypothetical food-for-thought , is that it would be tough because the very bottom limits are not a positive expected value game. Daniel and no other pro will sell themself short in this situation. Everyones going to believe that they ' can do it ' . Which is fine , but the quality of poker is so different at a 2-5 limit or 1-2 NL , from a 10-20 game that I believe you can never be a winner , or try and springboard yourself into a higher limit.
  8. Jesus did turn nothing into what 10K I think they can do it just fine.
Yes he did infact , but he was also "Chris Ferguson" on tilt when he did it. So people played against him alot differently than they would if some joe schoe had the same challenge. PsuJohn - Thanks for your reply it was well thought out. And yes , thats what I was getting at.
  9. Here's a question, and I want you to really think about the answer before you post. If you could harness any professional poker players skill , who would it be? - Once you have that skill , do you think that your skill alone would make you as famous or as good as that pro currently is? Remember, think hard about this - Because I believe that if I turned around tomorrow and could play poker like Ivey, I still wouldnt have the name or the persona to give me that push in tournaments or cash games. You know what Im talking about ... People play differently against different people, and if you are who you are, but play exactly like Ivey .. do you believe youd get the same kinda action ? I dont believe so. I think if you took Daniel stripped him of all fame (nobody knew him from the next guy), and removed his money of course * but kept his poker skill* that he wouldnt be able to dominate the bottom of the barrel to get back to the top. So , this isnt a question of which pro you would like to play like, but more so do you think that you could dominate the game and move to the spotlight with JUST thier skill ?

  10. Last night, and over the last couple days Ive been having a poker meltdown. Its like Ive forgotten the fundamentals of poker. Im not a bad player, Ive cash in large live mtt's, and have been playing at the series since '03 . Ive went deep a couple times just outa reach of the money, but lately Ive gotten off track. Couldnt put my finger on it. Last night I created two threads, because I played my hands so horrible that I NEEDED to get flamed by the very community I respect. I took all of the advice given, and contemplated for a long time on what needed to change. Im playing alot better this morning and wanted to post a couple hands to see if Im still playing bad. Again, I dont mind getting flamed as long as I can learn from it.Below are the threads I listed last night, and I DID play bad in both these hands.http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...howtopic=110127http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...howtopic=110130BEFORE YOU READ THIS ( Results are posted - I just want a critique on how I played the hand ) Now for today, here is how Ive taken into consideration everyones comments left last night, and how im using it in my game this morning. 13. Heh , I didnt get a response as to what the problem was .and 2.When I track the western union order, it says "Its available for receiver pickup" , which tells me that Pokerstars hasnt picked it up yet...why not? Who knows ..
