  1. Information advantage plain and simple.By letting 1 see, that 1 gains an information advantage. One quick example: She could better understand your betting pattern, style or pick up a tell. Not fair, so if 1 sees, the rest of the ladies get to see as well.

  2. Just echoing what people have said, friends are key and if you are in a new place, try to sign up for a course, class, sport or activity that gets you out of the house and meeting people. A part-time job in a social place can also work.If you want to read something, try Rainer Maria Rilke's "Letters To a Young Poet." He was a German poet from the early 20th century and you can find the book for about $10. He is writing back to a young student who wrote to him looking for advice. The letters offer deep insight into solitude. You can read it quickly and reflect on it. I think it might help. As strange as this sounds, this could be a tremendous opportunity for you to gain focus in your life and move forward with new strength and wisdom.

  3. Just open your cell phone and say..."What? What? She did? Is she going to be alright? Tell her I'll be right there."Then you can excuse yourself.Oh, yeah, this only works once.
Brilliant idea, but next time actually pull out a cell phone instead of your pinky and thumb pretend phone. You only fooled half of the table.
  4. It's funny how the posters of personal information are calling themselves internet detectives. Googling someone's screen name is not detective work. It just means the scammer is an idiot.Anyone have Mr. Griffin's email address? Someone should pass along the information to him in case he wants to do something about it.

  5. Different strokes. Some people dream big, take chances, and strive for greatness. Other people dream about paying bills on time. There's nothing wrong with being average, or being happy being average.
    I didn't say there was.
Not everyone will be a successful actor, athlete, or poker player. That being said, our worlds would be a lot drearier if no one was.
Nothing wrong with dreaming, but when unreal expectation affect decision-making, such dreams can be harmful.
If you're really concerned about your fellow man, go do some vounteer work.
    I do.
Help some people who have found themselves homeless, instead of worrying about the people who "could".
    Can't I do both?
Poker leading to a potential international disaster, that's rich.
Hyperbole, but read the post of the Malaysian guy who is going to move to Vegas to play 4/8. To me, that is a micro-disaster.
Gambling is firmly entrenched in American culture and psyche.
I love when I hear this about Asian people. Culture and psyche are convenient explanations and impossible to define or refute.
I don't understand why all of a sudden you're so concerned about poker leading to the downfall of america's youth.
My concern is not new, my post is.
Personally, I'd rather be homeless with a dream, than take over for you as the high school guidance counselor.
Obviously you have never been homeless, just as I have never been a high school counselor.Thank you for your comments. I don't think our positions are incompatible.Edit: Not sure why the quotes aren't working, it makes it difficult to read.
  6. I'm generalizing here, but...The poker dream that has so many people fantasizing about a better life has combined with the good old American Dream for a potential international disaster. It's the new Horatio Alger story, except the dream is big bucks with luck instead of sweat. This scares me and is in my opinion the dark side of poker. I get depressed when I talk to young people and their sole career aspiration is acting, directing or professional sports. Big payouts, but disgustingly low probability. Dreaming is great, but delusions can be painful if you wake up middle-aged and without the experience and skills to get paychecks through hard times. Add to that list of dream jobs that are capturing many a young mind, professional poker player. The television boom of poker has fueled this fantasy. Escapism is healthy, but packing up and putting your savings on a 4/8 table in Vegas doesn't sound like the average biography of the upper-middle class and above.I suppose average is the key word in the previous sentence. I'll take the safe bet: formal education and a savings account. I know I won't wake up on a pile of dollar bills, but I also won't wake up on a pile of overdue bills or with some guy named Bill saying that I'm sleeping on his corner.Edit: I wrote this late last night after reading http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...showtopic=56806I think that guy could potentially be an international disaster. I'm not surprised that most of the people here see little downside to spending countless hours on poker. As a group, you are probably more likely to grind it out than the average Joe, but all in all, I think our society has an entertainment-focused culture that results in poor career choices in the aggregate.

  7. Spikeymarv and Theoman (sp on both) are lawyers I think.I can probably answer any question you have, but as many have said pay the real-life version if the stakes are high.

  8. Your cash for playing is ok at those stakes, the problem is being able to live without fear of needing to dip into it. It could be quite an adventure and a profitable one. However, many players move to Vegas expecting a leisurely life of taking down big pots. Instead, they fall into bad sleeping/living habits, experience variance in all its terror and realize the grass is always greener and a 9/5 job can be pretty sweet. Good luck.

  9. I don't think YOUR ethics and actions should be determined by the character of another. Regardless of whether the person is a dingbat, your ethics should be constant if there is a principle at play behind your actions. I don't steal because it diminishes my right to own property. I don't cheat because is diminishes the fairness of a game that I want to be fair.

  10. "Ruthless, FCP's style as a juvenile."You guys are hilarious, but harsh.Fox, I thought this was going to be funny, but it's not. You have some problems and have received some bad beats, just like most people in life. It is up to you how you respond and what kind of a man it makes you. Given that alcoholism runs in your family, you need to seriously weigh the pros and cons of drinking. Maybe take a break and set a target for how long you will not drink. School is rarely -EV, so stick that out.Ask yourself the purpose of the rules you are so eager to break. Some of them may have values you respect.Good luck.

  11. Tell you what Fox, the correct meaning of FYP is one of the following:a. F You Posterb. F*ing Young Prickc. Fixed Your Postd. Fix Your PlayConsider that it is used after altering someone's quote and you may be able to figure it out.Now can someone tell me what the 'w' in 'sw' for sarcastic posts means?Edit: Bah, should have known. Thank you.

  12. You know you are dealing with a legitimate business when the email address ends in hotmail, yahoo or gmail. So let me get this straight, you are looking for good players that have never played on Party Poker (good luck on that) to give you 20% of their winnings. Sounds like you are just going to sign people up, get a referral and let them play with the free start-up money. The more I think about it, the more I should have just typed "see post above."Best of luck,C
