  1. It sounds too simple, but when you get 2 bad cards, fold 'em and 2 more will be around shortly.Wait it out, and don't force play with marginal hands. That's only going to get you into more trouble. Also, check your hand histories and see if you are playing too tight - missing opportunities to limp in with high suited connectors, etc., such as J-10, that might allow you to drag a big pot even in a cold deck period.
  2. Very enjoyable time last night, Daniel was top class and it was fun to play with some of you folks ... even if at one point early in the Bellagio tournament I couldn't see the board thanks to software problems.Daniel was to my immediate left when the fun started. Dealt AQ off. Raised a bit preflop, only Daniel called. Of course, I had no idea it was Daniel at that point, as a strange white circle had covered up all the players' names. So on to the flop ... 6 x x The "x" does not mean rag. It means I couldn't see the cards! As more and more stuff disappeared, I remembered where the check button
  3. I'm not planning on going at this point - however, between online satellites and such, I certainly won't turn down the trip if I stumble into an entry fee.
  4. If you want to play SNGs, start with the $5 variety and deposit $110 - enough for 20 entries + fees. One of two things will happen:1) You win some, you lose some, you place some, and you start building a decent little bankroll.2) You lose 20 straight, at which time I would suggest taking up Scrabble.
  5. Most I've seen at the .02/04 table was $500. But that dude actually played normally, and I forgot about it after a while. On UB, Phil Hellmuth was at a .25/.50 table with $25 and an observer was giving him shit about not really being Phil Hellmuth. So Phil bought in for $25,000.

See boys and girls, this is why the Mods need to go back and put the thread starters on the main page of the thread, so when low-life spamtrollasauraus' pimp their crap, the rest of us will know to avoid it.The often suggested "Ignore List" would be clutch here, too.
  7. But how is that going to help me get my fee IPod?
  8. It was on ESPN. It'll be on again. Soon. Later. And then again. Much.It debuted, as far as I know, on Super Bowl Sunday.
  9. [sarcasm]But Raymer *couldn't* have been a good player, he wasn't on TV prior to winning the WSOP![/sarcasm](Actually, Raymer WAS on ESPN prior to the 2004 WSOP. If you're paying attention, you'll see him in the background during Varkonyi's win in 2002.
  10. One situation I saw several times at Bally's on Saturday was players in the Big Blind, in an unraised pot, wanting to fold instead of taking the check. They mucked their cards toward the dealer, but then the dealer would say, "You've got a free check," and ship their cards back to them.On one occasion, the player to my left did this with 5-7 off. He was allowed back in the hand, and made quads.
  11. I buy in for 25BB, regardless of the limit. $1 at the micro tables online (all 4 if I'm multi-tabling) and $100 for 2-4 casino, $150 for 3-6 casino. I've just found that that's where my comfort level is and it works for me.The only time I adjust that is for one of our home games, where the host usually puts out 20xBB in chips for every seat before we get there. We play either 1-2 or 2-4, and I'm fine with starting with $40 or $80 in that situation since we all do.
  12. I thought the third episode was excellent. A dramatic improvement from the first two. This next episode will be key in determining whether the series can be called a success. Based on last week's effort, this fourth one *should* be good. It will be interesting to see if it meets that standard.

    how old part ii

T0 be very honest, I don't actually remember why I started playing. Seriously - I have no freakin' clue. I played online at Paradise several years ago and dabbled in online play on and off at various sites - always winning some, then losing it because in truth, I had no Earthly clue what the heck I was doing. None.I started taking the game more seriously in 2002. Tried to play more effectively online, started reading poker books, reading forums, talking to people about the game, etc. Now I play in regular home games, go to Atlantic City at least once a month, and play at Stars almost nightly.

    my opinions are mine

No one should say you aren't entitled to your opinion. You certainly are.But you must understand that everyone here is, as well, and on occasion, folks are going to disagree with you. They're no less right in doing that than you are in posting your original thought. This is the Internet, it's beez like that.Good luck at the tables.
  16. Something else I put in my notes ... If I see a player sit down, I note the date and amount they bought in for. Usually, they'll buy in for the same amount every time, and if I have that note when I enter a table, I can get a good idea for how they are doing on the night, which may be give me some sort of read on how they are going to play from there.I also on occasion will scan the tables at .05/.10 and .25/.50 (the limits one and two up from mine at the moment on Stars), and if I see any familiar faces, I will note that, as well. If someone is usually a .25/.50 player, and they have dropped
  17. Not to be a smart-a**, but just go play someone else. There are [Carl Sagan] millions [/Carl Sagan] of players in the world. Unless you take it personally that this person beats you, take the time you spend fretting over it and go beat somebody else. Poker is a food chain, my friend. If someone is out to make you dinner, go eat somewhere else.

    bb/hour

In terms of that session that I was referring to, which was last night. It was .02/.04. One table I clocked out having only been there about 15 minutes. Saw one playable hand, but it didn't hold up. That loss and a couple blinds and I left down 20 cents. Another, I took a beat with AA to 8-5 suited. And not even to a flush, but a straight. Ouch. Recovered from that and left at time's up at 94 cents. So -.26. Another table I played 2 hands too loose before realizing it was Maniac Central, and I ex-caped at -.19. So -.45 overall.Other tables, however, featured one I was up .34 when it broke, ano

    bb/hour

That's kind of what I was thinking would be the more preferred way of going about it. I guess BB/100 hands would work well here, too, since there's no time valuation involved.Although, it would have been more fun to say I was up 29.375 BB/hr. for my 2-hour session last night. .... I'll take the 7.34 BB/table hr. still since I was 4 tabling.Even then, it's deceiving though. At three of the tables, I either treaded water to stay a little ahead, or never got anything going and was a little down. It was only at the other table, where I tripled my buy-in, did the stats really boost.I guess the tri

    bb/hour

Here's an additional question on that for playing online.Say you play online for 2 hours at .50/$1. You finish up $32 for the session. $16/hr., a top quality 16BB/hr.But ... you did this while 4-tabling. So you put in 8 "table" hours. For stat keeping purpose, would you count this then as $4/hour, or 4BB/hr., based on the table hours played, or would you keep it on simply the overall real-life time you spent playing?I know how to figure it both ways and all, I'm just wondering how the regular multi-tablers go about it. I've been keeping the stats both ways of late.
  21. For no scientific reason whatsoever, I have a 10-1 rule on the river deal. If it's one bet to me on the river, and I have a hand worth a darn, I'm going to call if more than 10x my bet is in the pot. I've only got to be right 10% of the time. Now, of course if it's 2 bets to me, especially if it's multiple people in for that price, I'm probably going to drop, as it is very rare at the microlimits for a pot to be *that* high for the 10-1 rule to come into play (say, it's 8 cents to me, the pot has to be 80 cents or more, which is rare).
  22. Ed

    how old are you?

    31. I play microlimits online for two reasons:1) For the challenge of trying to build a bankroll from scratch (from $12 to $23.78 so far at .02/.04, maybe I'll get lucky and move up shortly) :)2) To gain the experience of seeing many hands and working out leaks in my play. I play 40 table hours a week (usually 4-tabling so it doesn't take long in real time) and average about 1900 hands a week. I think the experience is a big help.
  23. Yeah, I tend to ramble. :)You got to the point quicker.
  24. If I have one of my suit among the board, I will usually call one bet on the flop. If it's up to me to lead out, I will in most cases. If it's to me and my suit is dead, or it's 2 bets cold either way, I'll probably fold and wait for the next 2 cards to come around.
