  1. Thanks for the replies. I am going to give it a go. While I dont think I could come even close to maintaining the success it would take to achieve the scenario that pillypill suggests, I do believe that a little luck can go a long way. And while Im not a favorite to get a seat I dont think Im a huge dog. If you guys are interested I will post results so anyone who has similar aspirations has a general idea of what to expect.
  2. Then what? I ask because Im curious. $750 is a lot of money and I just want to see if Im not crazy to think this would be a good investment. If somebody knew it was a bad idea I would appreciate if they filled me in. Say if someone knew that better players than me couldnt hope to win a seat without 300 buy ins at step 1 then I would know it would be close to hopeless and try a different route. Therefore I have to ask.
  3. 38% to be exact. Is that very good? Its a small sample. Only about 400 sngs.
  4. Ok, so I have never played a decent buyin live tourney and I am itching to try. My goal is to play the NAPT Mohegan Sun. I obviously need to sat in as I dont have $5k I can blow on one tourney. I can however invest about $750 into trying without crippling my bankroll. My idea is to use that $750 and play the steps. Thats 100 buy ins at step 1. Would I be stupid to think I would have a better than average chance at accomplishing my goal or am I kidding myself. My STT stats are decent. I cash just a shade under 40% of the time and my roi is 13%. Ive played the steps before and have gott
  5. Fold first hand on the flop. You are getting bad odds to chase.Dont ever limp UTG with less than 10 bbs with KJo. Push or fold and I would lean towards folding. And his play wasnt good. Although you werent trying to, your play looks very trappy here. I would expect you to have AA or KK a lot of the time here if I was him unless I saw you limp light from early pos. a lot, which I wouldnt rule out judging by this hand.
  6. His play is terrible. He has no idea what a correct squeeze play is. His stack is way too small to try this. You arent folding from early position unless you made a wacky play with a small pair or small suited connectors. This is a perfect example of why poker is so profitable. You have players who read a strategy book halfway. They know the terms and read about plays to make but use them at inappropriate times. These players are actually worse than a pure rank amateur. They know half of what they are talking about. They dont quite know what they are talking about and it actually lead
  7. Get your fill while you can. This place will be shut down soon.
  8. Based on the previous hand you played with villain, I would def fold. If he is check/calling trip queens, then he is def not raising AQ or KQ on this turn. Esp. since he would probably check raise AQ on the flop.
  9. Funny you should mention losing 1k. I recently lost 1k online tilting away my money playing elky 5/10 NL. It made me sick to know I pissed away 1000 of my hard earned dollars to a millionaire. Ive only lost over 1k 3 times and it was horrible each time. The first time I spent a week in my apartment. Never left. Just laid on my couch and watched tv. I thought my poker career had come to a crashing halt. Thinking of the Taj was terrible. At 22 and losing that much made me feel like I ruined my life with the choices I made. I got over it and it was a long time til I did it again.
  10. Generally you are correct. For most they dont play higher limits because they arent good enough. Yet there are many players who are quite capable of winning at a higher limit but cant for a number of reasons. Bad bankroll management is probably number 1 on that list. Having to use your bankroll for surprise expenses is another reason. Hitting a horrible downswing is another. Mostly though 2/5 is a different animal that 1/2. While still profitable, I have experienced that there is higher variance in the 2/5 games in AC. The players are more aggressive. Not necessarily better, just more
  11. The simple answer is that its still profitable. Lets look at it this way:You make 7bb/hr live after rake and tips and such. Thats pretty good and very attainable at the 1/2 level. You play about 35 hands an hr for 20 hours a week. Thats 700 hands a week. You make 4bb/100. online. Still profitable but not gonna make you a lot of money. But heres the catch. You can play 8 tables online at once. You can see thousands more hands a week. Even if you cut your earning rate in half because of the amount of tables you play you still make much more a week. You also play about 65 hands an hour a
  12. With an $80 max buy in your bankroll would have to be much more then 30x. I wouldnt feel safe without at least 75x. You only start with 40xbb. Thats a structure that is conducive to major swings. As for comparing live to online, I would say online is much tougher to beat depending on where you play live. Are there a lot of casinos near you? Is it mostly tourists or regulars? These are very important questions. In AC the games are super soft. Every table is full of tourists who come to play the game they see on tv. Its easy pickings. I dont know how it is where you are but I would pi
  13. Ok, makes sense. But lets assume I lead the turn like you want. I make it $60 instead of him. What do I do when he flats me or pushes on turn. Am I done with the hand or am I stacking off? I dont see how I could call a push.
  14. Thanks for the replies guys. Ok, so the general consensus seems to be check calling the flop had he bet and check calling the turn. My only problem is that there are so many scare cards that can hit the river. Im not really happy no matter what hits the river. Only a 2,4,5,6 or 8 really make me feel ok on the river. Everything else may have hit him. Even an 8 isnt that good as he could have 76 or something similar. Is check calling the turn really that good of a play? I may be looking at this wrong. The only reason I pushed on the turn is that I wanted a cheap showdown and checked. H
  15. He has been very tricky postflop. Ive seen him 3 barrel bluff. Ive seen him trap. Ive seen him check call all the way down with bottom pair and hit trips on the river. He seemed to be a player that went with his reads. He would bet about 80% of the time he was checked to. It was difficult to get reads on him.
  16. Here is some background info. Villian is a very loose preflop player. He often would call reraises with less than premium hands and hit. We had been at the same table for about 5 hours now and he had built up $100 into $1000. At the time of the hand he had spewed off $600 or so and is now sitting at about $400. About 5 hands prior to this hand I had raised to $17 with KK and got reraised by MP player to $37. Villian had flat called and folded to my all in reraise claiming QQ which I did not believe at all. Here is the hand in question. Im pretty sure I made mistakes on multiple streets
  17. Glorified brag post maybe? Thats what it certainly seems like to me now.
  18. I maybe fold pre. Probably fold on the turn and def. fold on the river. If he is 6 tabling then there is little to no chance he is three barreling here.
  19. Im assuming its $2 pre, $4 on the flop and turn and $8 on the river. If that is correct then I think it would probably create more action and cater more to the better player then a $3/6 game. My reasoning is that bad players are going to be playing more hands for only $2 and not be able to get away from hands on the river after building such a large pot when the limit is $8. Conversely, a better player can fold in situations on the river saving that $8 when he might otherwise call $6 in a 3/6 game. I have nothing to back this up, as I have never played a 2/4/4/8 game, but I would think the
  20. I dont in any way think Im god's gift to poker. I received hostility from my post so I gave it back. Plain and simple. Q6 is just too weak to raise with in these low level tournies. And if you are playing low level tournies (as I do) then you are getting yourself in more trouble then not opening with hands like this. Thats been my point the whole time.
  21. So your point is that you are too stupid to talk to? I find that hard to believe. Even for you.
  22. Are you kidding me? This cant be a serious question. I cant reply to such stupidity.
  23. Well dummy, when you are raising to steal, your backup plan is to have a hand that can flop big or a big draw. Q6 can only do one of those. You are making yourself sound stupid.
  24. Not nearly the trouble Q6 would get you in. How many big draws are you flopping with Q6? I dont know about you, but I find it much easier to play hands that have draw potential then to play hands strictly for steal opportunities.
