  1. There is a reason to tell someone to play for more money, not just because I think it is too low. When you play at limits that low, nobody cares about the money so the games are just who has the best cards, there is no strategy.We play a 1-2 PL game, where the big winner in a night takes home around 700 800 bucks, and I am beginning to think our limits are too low, becaue you cannot get someone off a marginal hand.So don't go assuming that I am here acting like I am some high roller, there was reason I said what I did.
    my game is not much different than yours. were have a $50 min buy-in but its very normal for more than one player to by in for more than around $200+. its a 1-2 NL game, and yes sometimes its hard to get players off marginal hands but the bigger the pot the better it is for me ("the house"... that should sort of answer your questions about rake too)
  2. hey guys ive been running a cash game here in san antonio and id like any advice you guys could give. for example: foods that youve served to feed everyone that didnt take too much off the house or length of time that should be implemented after a players buy-in before they can cash out. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

  4. like you said... you read TOP, and in THEORY OF POKER there is a quote from bobby baldwin. it says...."i've heard good players complain to me about how they get drawn out on all the time, but if they want to better their game and emotional state while playing, they should realize it's a mirage. if your an excellent player, people are going to draw out on you a lot more than you're going to draw out on them because they're simply going to have the worst hand against you a lot more times than you have the wost hand against them." anyway, this is something i remind myself a lot. especially when i want to reach over and choke someone that is pulling down chips that i know should have been mine. hope this helps.

  5. so i have a weekly game at my house, its only a $20 buy-in. my problem is of 9 or 10 rotating players about 6 of them have no idea what they're doing. i mean honestly no idea. i saw two of them going at it big bets on the flop turn and eventually and all-in and a call on the river. the guy that went all-in turned over ace high, the caller showed ace high with a higer kicker. WHAT???!!!! now i know this would have been a brilliant play (calling), had he been an experienced player, but thats not the case here by any means. now that doesnt leave much room for a player to make moves and ive tried playing tight until i get to the money but that doesnt work either as i usually end up going up against 2 or 3 monsterous stacks after they've knocked out the other novice players at the table with hands like ive just explained. please help me. give me a strategy, let me know if one even exists. i know what id tell myself..."just dont play in that game". unfortunaty, this is the only cash game around here. i really hate playing in the local bar tourney just for fun. thanks for any imput guys. :wall:

  6. i think the show blows. i was super excited to hear about a show about poker, even more excited to hear mike madsen was in it, and majorly dissapointed when i saw it. i dont think it does much to compliment the actual skill involved in the game.

  7. im not sure if im really qualified for the job. i currently do tech support for earthlink internet, and to be quite honest, it kinda blows. sure the moneys good but id rather take a pay cut and make about as much as mushu does just to be part of the poker world......(day dreams for about an hour at his desk)...........anyway. thats all. this place sucks. hire me daniel!

  8. weirdest thing seeing this post..... i dreamt the other night that im at a table in a tourney and im doing fairly well when we have to consolidate tables and now im sitting infront of danny (i think it has alot to with with reading this forum everyday at work) across from lederer, annie duke and helmuth. and i remember thinking to myself, "crap! i guess that makes me dead money." and i remember turning to danny and saying, "your the last person i want to be acting before today." then i remember the pros kinda poking fun at me. joking but still being very nice and i eventually bust out and am congradulated by danny and the other pros for actually playing very well. strange huh? anyway i thought it was kinda funny. i woke up told my girlfriend and she said i was crazy!

  9. i was just wondering if anyone has any advise on "heads up" play. ive read all sorts of books dealing with short handed, but nothing that deals specifically with this topic. i find its where my game is most lacking. help!
