  1. Of course in an interview they trott out the usual "child protection" and other strawmen justifications for their actiions but at least one minister admited that lobbying from the horseracing industry played a large part. What the gov't does not want to admit is that the gov'ts sport book making operations, Pro-Line and the gov't Casino's profits are suffering due to the competition of the internet. Ontarios largest casino laid off more then 100 employees last week due to declining sales. Also the gov't is not getting their cut by being able to tax these transactions. This is protectionism pure

  3. It is not the most common way for new legislation to be introduced but private members bills do get passed a lot. Don't right this one off to quick.
  4. Yeah. The $600 Satellite is the only 20 person satellilte they ofer. All the other are 10 person fields. So unfortunately that has meant it has taken some time to get them started in the past. They operate them as Sit and Go's so once the list is full and the people are seated then away you go.You can also play the cash ring games either while you wait or after you are done. The most popular game there is $5/$5nl but on a Friday night/afternoon you will find everything ($1/$2, $2/$5,$5/$10,$10/$25nl plus lots of limit games).Good luck.
  5. No show necessary if you are the only one left without mucked cards.Imagine if you were required to show to take the pot and you refused. What if you mucked? What would they do with the pot?
  6. Look to the recording industry to see how they catch people ont he net. Or the child porn busts. It is almost impossible for them to work backwards and find out which American's are playing poker on line. If someone ratted you out then yes they could trace you. But to just canvas...no way. With the recording industry people basically ratted themselves out. They put out there ID with piles of illegal files and a sign saying come and get me. In other instances the recording company put out fake downloads. In the child porn arena the same tactic is used. They need you to go to them and out
  7. The local pakistani guy who runs the Mail boxes Etc in my neighbourhood never checked my residency before renting me a P.O. Box that I needed for a home business I was running. And those P.O boxes have real addresses on them and not P.O Box 3456. When I was moving a lot and didn't want to bother changing my licence every few months I just used my P.O box as my residence address. For almost 2 years I was living in that box as far as the DMV and gov't was concerned. It would be extremely easy for US citizens to get them IMO.
  8. For about $100/yr they could acquire a street address at Mail Boxes etc and then have that mail forwarded to their US address for another small fee. From the outside you will appear to be a Canadian resident. The other option it to move to Niagara Falls and be walking distance to the US (upstate New York) and 1/2 hour from the Buffalo airport. The real estate is real cheap there too but you get the benefit of two casino's playing live games 24/7.Also taxes on winnings in Canada are not owed unless you are making your living from gambling. If you have another income then your winnings go basica
  9. I cannot see why the future of these organizations is at risk. Perhaps a large part of their profits are but not all of them. They are service companies and they will continue to service Canadians and other non-US countiries. Sure the US business was huge for them but I doubt they will cut off their nose to spite their faces by denying themselves other profit just because they cannot have the US profit.
  10. Only you seem to think this and I think it is obviously wrong.A good percentage of American's will stay away or diminish play based on this. And whether it is 1% or 90% or somewhere in between then it automatically affects entry fields.again the key is short term. Many may come back based on what they hear from other players in the future but there definately will be some short term flux.
  11. I wll repeat the words "short term"...and once again "short term".It will take them time to adjust the prize pools. No site will want to be first to lower their guaranteed prize pools because this is a time when stealing traffic from other sites may be key.If PP drops its big prizes right away and PS does not then obviously PS may get additional traffic. So they will have to be careful about dropping.I already know of some Americans who are pulling money out of accounts just in case. That means the participant pool is ALREADY shrinking for the guaranteed prizes
  12. Of course they will.My point is there is a "short term" for us to exploit it as they figure out what the new numbers are.
  13. of guaranteed prize pools on major sites.Sorry to our American friends and truly I wish the US was not so screwed up over this issue but I think this is going to result in a huge short term boon for non Americans. Many sites have guaranteed prize pools that are created based on expected attendance for these events. It will probably take them a while to adjust the prizes downward once they realize what the new attendance will be.In the meantime I think the opportunity will exist to play for large prize pools with less then normal attendees.
  14. You are assuming the software discriminates and this was personal against Ivey.
  15. I am surprised anyone is shocked by this in an online poker game. These type of action hands where no one can get away from them are more the norm then the exception IMO.
  16. BTW here is the link to the two events in Niagara.I know of a whole contingent of Florida young guns (19 & 20) coming up for these events because they can play in Canada but not yet the US.
  17. It is rare that I don't want the person to fold to my semi-bluff when I am on any draw.Guaranteeing me the pot with a fold is IMO always good instead of gambling for the bigger payday if my draw hits. I view the draw as my out should the person not fold. I hope not to need the out but it is nice to know it is there.Edit : also semi-bluffing is still extremely effective in live games.
  18. I hope to play both WPT events in Niagara in October.
  19. Cottaging Daniel??Bocce and Horshshoes and drinking. The pastime of pastimes in the Canadian north.
  20. I would see it as sign that the poker gods wanted to stake me in $5/$5 nl cash game. Once I won I would return the priciple amount to the poker gods.
  21. And of course that is how most good players feel. You know you are doing things right. You know you should be winning more then you are. SO every poker magazine, every player...says reload and keep playing and things will change. It will turn. And if you just keep reloading and just keeping playing then...Anyway I too play mostly live. About 80% of my poker is in the casino and I have managed to become a winning player in the last year. SO it is not as if I am not exposed to suck outs. It is just the proportion. it is all wrong.
  22. In most situations I avoid pushing pre-flop and like to push only after the turn. To many people will call any draw (open ended or flush) if they have two cards coming and feel they are near 50% to hit. So I hope for a brick on the turn and push. However if I am in late position with a big pocket pair JJ-AA and believe it to be winning and there is a preflop raise with many callers then I often try to take the pot down preflop. You do not want 4 to 5 callers with a big pocket pair and heads up usually puts your hand as the monster favorite to most drawing hands or lower pairs that might call
  23. But they can be insightful outside of that. In any system (lottery, blackjack, etc) it is entirely possible that a statistical anomaly wll exist. A lottery winner could win the jackpot 3 or 5 times. A blackjack player could win every time he sits down. However both the lottery system and the casino would question how the anomaly has occured. Players should also question when anomalies occur. And yes the answer might be "statistical deviation". You might just be lucky or unlucky but other options can exist. Players need to be ever vigilant in questioning this type of thing especially in g
  24. Thanks for giving a university math major a math lesson. Now in first year you learn about the theory of large numbers (law of averages) and how people commonly misapply it. You fail. This is not about hand 401 after hands 1 thru 400 have been played. Please read that point again. Understand that or keep repeating a non-point.This is about ALL 400 hands and how statistically they should break down. that does not mean I should win ANY ONE HAND but it does mean that in 4 hands or 40 hands or the first 350 hands that is very unlikely (statistically approaching zero) that I will lose them all.
  25. You are misapplying the law of very large numbers as most people do.Yes if you have already flipped a coin 50 times then the 51st time the odds of head or tail are even despite what came prior BUT....BUT... the odds at the onset that you will ever flip 50 straight heads or tails are phenomenally against you.Just as the odds at onset that your AA will lose to A?o 2, 3,5 or 50 times in row are phenomenally against you. The odds say it will win X number of times in this sequence of hands. The law you site applies to anyone hand but not a number of hands in sequence. If you are taking 10 hands in
