  1. One of my favorite plays is check/calling the flop and then rerasing on the turn from a blind, especially when the board pairs on the flop with somethin low, or if its a flop like j-8-4 and someone has raised and im defending my blind, ill checkraise on the turn if i put him on any ace or unpaired high cards. only times it fails is when has AJ or a lesser players have low pocket pairs they cant away from. The commentary about making your bluffs look like regular plays is so important, and it's such a simple concept, but most people feel the need to overbet in a strange spot in order to "bluff." There are times when its necessary, because a lot of the younger people i play with will call anything that isnt too much of their chip stack, since they have no idea how to read an opponent and are only playing their hand. thats when it's more important to bet big to force a fold than setting up a bluff with check/call raise type stuff. as always, its all about the situation...
  2. i was playing w/one my friends today and he said on he was on bodog playign a $12 sitngo, and there were a ton of people railing for some reason. There was a guy named like backstreetboy1, and everyone kept saying that he was going to win b/c he could see everyones hole cards. my friend didnt believe him, but got down to heads up, and he said the guy kept typing in like "a9" "q10" etc and he was dead on every time. he ended up losing when he said he realized he had to just go all in preflop to have any hope at winning, and the hand he went all in the guy flopped a boat w/like j6. my friend isnt the most trustworthy person i know, but theres no reason for him to make up a story like this, he's not the type of kid to log anything or keep hand histories, so i dunno, but it peaked my interest and i wish he had some proof of it.

  3. I'm a break even player who feels like a losing player. I'm a better player than 8/9 other players at the table almost everytime, but the games I pick is like bingo, so swings are huge. I think I need to try a higher level.(You know, the guys who call 8 4 suited, and chase all the way down? No folding, just who hits the board the most. And censored online poker.)
im with you man, i have a hard time playing lower limits straight up and just being patient to make money, and waste so much money overplaying my foes. definately **** online poker. but i cant get away
  4. grr i lost this when i raised from button w/9d-5d w/one limper in the pot, the bb and limped call, flop comes a-k-5 all diamonds, i bet the pot, get checkraised by the BB, i go all in, and he calls...with Qd-8h!naturally he caught the 7-outer on the turn. frustrated.

  6. that's how i felt when i played pokerhost for the first time...I absolutely hated the site, but they had a 110% bonus . So i deposit $100 through instacash, but only $93 shows up in my account, b/c they're the only site ive encountered that's decided they'll offer instacash, but won't pay the 7% fee neteller charges. so needless to say i was pissed off from the start. then the bonus was given back in incredibly so increments, there were never any players on, they had the loudest and most annoying sounds...but i made like $600 on the NL games there in 3 weeks b/c everyone was terrible. But it was the same terrible people all the time, and only like 2 tables going at once and even those were not full, so the people i took money off of just avoided me and i ended up never playing there again...

  7. I had never played a poker hand in my life until the week after the patriots beat the Panthers in the super bowl...During the super bowl i started drinking at like noon, had a party in my apartment, went way too crazy and ended up kicking 4 holes in the apartment when the panthers had tied the game, really felt like a donk after the Pats came back and won it. Ended up breaking my foot on a metal socket in one of my walls. anyways...went to this kids apartment the next weekend, with my foot in a cast, and played poker for the first time live, i had like $2 in a NL game they were playing and really just wanted to watch, thought it was a blast, bout Hold 'em for beginners, and started having small games in my apartment and watchin the WSOP every week. After a few months, put like 20 bucks on Royal Vegas, maybe 50 here and there on party and just tryin the NL game, won a $3 rebuy tourney on RV and made like $400, to this day remains my only MTT win.Since then ive read a decent amount, really like sklansky and harrington's books have completely changed my tourney game.Bankroll management has always been an issue, ive tracked all my winnings/losings, ive only made about $1200 in my "career" as a poker player, and that was in a period of 2 weeks where i got a 2nd and 3rd for $1000 each. I've played .5/1 NL, 1/2 NL, and limit games from .5/1 to 3/6, with terrible experiments in 5/10 games (twice) severely shorthanded w/money. I can't find a limit im comfortable playing at online, i always seem to end up "bored" with no concept of money at a NL table, and multi-tabling on 1/2 games ends up in me breaking even almost every time. I'm starting to try .10/.20 shorthanded games, and they seem pretty good, but i really enjoy MTT's the most and have a good feel for the tourney game. If i can ever get a solid bankroll for a real run at 1/2 NL at foxwoods, then i should be able to win decent money, but as it stands im an undisciplined college senior with no good income that can't control his online poker habits...

  8. hmm you got paid off, so i cant argue with it :-) as far as tells, i think it really depends on what you're playing and who you're playing with, i play a lot of games with 17-20 year olds just playing b/c they think they're good, and like someone mentioned earlier, the tells of looking at chips after the turn/river and fidgeting are probably the biggest ones among novices. Just read Caro's book and you'll be all set.I think it would be interesting to have a "foot cam" at a lot of tables. personally that's something i do that I'm trying to work on, my upper body i got under control but as a fidget-ty person in general who can never sit still anyways, my legs and feet go nuts sometimes, although its when im bluffing big or flop a monster, so it goes both ways. but i got really happy feet

  9. lost KK to AQ when he flat called w/ace high to the river to catch an ace, i woulda had 60k...then i couldnt get any action on rockets twice, ended up goin out on a flush when other guy had the nuts, i coulda folded but ive been tilting for a good 20 minutes and didnt feel like playing a short stack...oh well

  10. Down to 23 ppl, I'm chip leader right now, just entering the 2nd break...competition was pretty easy, i didnt get a real hand for the first 90 minutes and survived, then one guy gave me all his chips on a semi-bluff...just lost a few chips JJ to an ace on the flop, but I would love to win this, havent won a tourney in god knows how long

  11. have you seen the time clock? Each player has 60 seconds to make a decision, whether it be preflop, flop, turn, river. When the clock gets to 30 seconds, it starts beeping. Then the floor announcer announces to everyone when theres 15 seconds left, then counts down the last 5 seconds. If you dont make a decision by the end of the minute, the whole table flashes red and you're "in the dead zone." and you automatically fold.Time is not extended while players or the dealer count the chips, so if your dealer sucks and doesnt count the chips correctly, you can waste half the time trying to replay the hand in your mind, calculating odds, reading the player, and asking the dealer for info. I saw this for the first time the other night. i was appalled at it, dont know when they started it or how long its going to last, but its horrendous and encourages poor poker. Lederer was at the table and i kept waiting for him to jump on the table and try to break the clock.Did i dream this?
