anyone else not winning at poker?
oceansize replied to SweetDaddyFreak's topic in General Poker Forum
Not winning, though I think it's mostly a matter of discipline. For instance, playing at a friends house for the first time in his regular game and they played 3 NLHE tournies, I arrived late and played the last two scorring a solid first place in the second of their games and chopping the last two places in the third game. So I did well, I think a net gain of $120 there abouts. Of course I got drunk passed out on the couch, and insisted the next day of taking the hosts out to breakfast and then spent about 50 bucks on three breakfasts and two pitchers of summit. Not to mention I had bough -
I'm not bothered by this play, in fact, if the situation looks like it's going to be heads up, there you are holding Aces, no paint on the board... I think your play was fine. Usually, it is easier to get someone else to put their chips in the middle than it is to get them to call your bets, your clearly ahead, I think you did a great job.

11.something something and then someone showed up and i had to start working again.....

call the turn, check call the river probably. he might have made two pair there, which I can see him betting the flop with a queen and calling the raise with a low kicker. he might have paired up his sidecard on the turn, or called you with trips/two pair on the flop and hoped to check raise you on the turn.i'm drawing to improve here on the river (K or 9) and if i don't i dont have a problem c/f there either.

I had a bigger problem when Mike is at the Stud game with the cops and worm enters. I probably would have sat and folded 7 or 8 more hands and took a break or made some excuse to leave and sit at the bar for a while (if not leave entirely). change of table or something.

in addition to what other have said, villian has your stack covered and if he also goes with what he considers a coin toss, well, he has 20000 left over and again with blinds at 1k/2k he can come back. if you lose this coin flip, your just flat out.I see what you're saying, but I disagree that this would be a smart play, especially since this is your example as to the kind of chances you are taking regularly. Blind stealing is still ultra important but is this really a place where you can do it? This really doesn't look like an uncontested pot to me.

just curious: how many poker sites on your computer
oceansize replied to InertGrudge's topic in General Poker Forum
24h poker was actually one of the first ones I got an account at, mostly because of the 5 draw and Soho tourniments that I hadn't (at that time) seen anywhere else.Sooo many on the 'puter, most I havn't played in years. Mike Caro's, stars, Absolute, Royal vegas, UB, Paradise, TNT, victorypoker (and the forum I started at), quite a few others. -
I'm with push and pray too. If you call and lose this one, that means your gonna have to double up one of the next 3 hands anyway to even have a hope to take him down. And your stack isn't going to allow you to make moves other than all-in, you may as well do it while you have at least something in your hand to credit it. He of course doesn't need more than suited low connectors to raise the blinds.

It does depend on position and structure. Also the size of the pocket pair. Hands I may play only in last postion in a limit game I might raise early in a PL or NL game and vice versa.Typically, big pocket pairs I hate playing from the blinds in a loose limit game, because one bet will not thin the field, but it will get you more money in the pot as there are many who call anything for the flop and then fold when they don't hit anything. Big pocket pairs in NL or PL are great in the blinds because (especially at a loose passive table) it's an excellant means of stealing the limp calls. You

c/r the flop, bet out on the turn, re-raise if possible, but probably not. if anyone is left bet out the river as well. I'm with check raising the flop because you have a good enough draw, no one hit the board and they all will pay a second bet for the turn.get money in the pot when you have the best of it, when you take it down it will be worthwhile. if you can't take the maximum out of the pot for your hand, playing that hand, even in blind defense is not worthwhile at all.

I agree with no punk. Even about the new Staind. I didn't even like there second album, whatever it was called. That first one was a thing of beauty though. Even the first Limp Bizkit album was decent. All these bands and they all end up going down the easy path of least resistance teeny-bop-tearyness....It's sad really.
-
I'm just sad that since Staind's first album every band that's made the top charts since ripped off that melodic ballad part and left the gut wrenching anguish part out. Just to play devils advocate, I agree with J actually. KJ suited might be a good enough hand to play from position, but acting early with it too long is a chip burner. I don't mind the preflop bet, I don't even mind the flop bet, but when that turn comes...only a King or Jack on the river improves your hand, and the reason for folding the river is probably because you think he at least paired the board (Maybe AT, JT, T9 or Ax suited to the diamonds, x5?). You fold on the river because you think you are behind or losing right? And in turn, while your putting him on a hand, he's putting you

I like Ted. In games I've seen him play, he isn't much for talk and doesn't seem agitated by it. He's a cool cucumber and a loose cannon, a gambling machine. I don't like my odds against him, but I think it would be a pretty quiet game. I don't like someone that just wont shut up. I think Phil would be like that.

i need tips for playing poker at a casino
oceansize replied to Smiddywap's topic in General Poker Forum
That's awesome. But seriously, in addition to what the others have said, the place you play at is catered to the players. You need anything, ask the dealer for service. The first few times you play live, your gonna find out that when you get those first big hole cards your hands are gonna start shaking when you reach to put chips in the pot. Probably not a whole lot you can do about that, but be aware of it and try to make yourself as comfortable as you can. When you bet, keep your bets in front of you. Some people may try (probably not get away with it) but I have seen it where some drunk o -
your going all in I'm sure of it. He probably made nut low but not neccesarily hi. 7 hi straight is the nut right now which you have. at worst your getting quartered on the hi and losing the low, at best you take the hi and lose the low.I think you got to put it in there.edit....hold it, just finally saw that somewhere in there you said the river card was a 7 and he scooped it on you. he had A268? that bites but good.

Fazolli's has free bread sticks....mmm butter sticks...Also, I like those long odds no money to speak of free rolls. When I just started dipping my toes into online play, I used to love the Stud free rolls at Poker Stars. 5000 players and it would fill up an hour before start time. My best on that was 18th, for which I recieved nothing but a nice sensation, something in my own personal idium. I was feeling either that or the twelve pack of New Castle I drank during that 6 1/2 hours...Not sure.Either way, to each there own. If you want free rolls the sites are out there for that. If you w

call is very neccesary. It seems very strange that he is going to limp and then come over the top of you like that. What kind of hand could empower someone like that...AA, KK, AK? I am actually thinking about going all in here, but I like that idea of calling and then jamming the pot when no Ace of King hits the flop. that's probably the best move, seeing as how you act after him and regardless of the flop he'll probably move you all in anyway. At least you'll get to see the flop and if you're wrong it won't knock you out just yet.
-
I think I would have done the same thing. When your stack is that size, you really need to steal blinds and you had the hand to do it with. I think the others were right in saying that your going to win more of those showdowns than you will lose. Times like these, you just got to say, hey, that's poker.
-
yeah, if he's raising back, I'm not going to say likely, but I wouldn't be surprised if he made a set, or two pair on that flop. I rule out the possiblity of painted pocket pairs because you would think he would have raised with them preflop (unless he liked his chances against one opponent and wanted to hopefully hit a small board ....which is right on the flop there...before betting).either way, you should have raised preflop, he could have anything. you have a pair and an open ended draw, sure go all in if that is your choice. even if he made a set you got outs. but if you go all in, do

I was at a Game Stop yesterday and asked if he knew anything about DN's new console game coming out, Stacked. He said as far as he new it was slated for February but got pushed back a few months.Anyone here know anything about it or when it will be released. I was looking around and coudn't find any info in this area either on the forum or in the FCP articles, so forgive me if I'm reposting a similar question.Los

well this is what I don't like about it. you just got to the table, no real reads on anyone, he raises (albeit a likely blind steal), but you don't really know, because no reads on table yet...if you want to attempt a re-steal and get snapped, ok. but how much did you push? all-in?what i really don't like about this is, your 3 spots from getting paid, your stack is the size for the blinds where you could really just coast to there and maybe find better positions to be in during that time.the funny thing is luck is gonna run out for that guy unless he's using some really super cool neato che

I call too. If you think you can get him to dump his hand because he isn't holding a King, ok. But if he's paired the board at all he's likely to call (or raise if he does have the king and good kicker or two pair) and all you will have done is chased players out of the hand that could have paid you off if you let them in when you hit your Q. Also, you may find yourself missing the board heads up and calling all the way down on a pot that isn't really worth the headache.
