Railroad eh? I knew it was too good to be true...Still, I'll have to remember that one. Haven't played a dealer call game in like 4 years also...everyone is so in love with NLHE mini tournies lately. And the name stays, catchy or not. My game, my initials.. unless of course someone can prove they made it up first.

Well unless someone has heard of a variation like this one.Started out playing dealer call games in college and dealers were always calling these ridiculous "buy" card games like baseball poker and whatnot so I put it on myself to one up them by inventing a game also.I called it CJ Hold'Em and it runs down like this. You get two hole cards. You must use them both with three cards on the board. However, you get six cards on the board that come out two at a time. So on the flop, two cards on the board, turn two more for four on the board, river two cards again for a total of six on the board.M

How about, Criminal Negligence. Ooo that's a good one. I like French Farrell also.

it depends, going into it did you make him for a painted pocket pair? when he called he must have made you for over cards. therefore, i think neither a bad call or bad push. you isolated him with your drawing hand and he called with his tall pocket pair.coin toss anyone?Losedited:Well now that I read it again, 170 more...to his raise of 50 and it's a weak tight table. it was a good push if you thought he would fold preflop, otherwise you should have called (and if he's tight like you say, he probably isn't pushing himself with bunk). I think he made the best decisions. first in raising

Czar, starting limit players, play a bigger table. Bigger the better, lower limit the better. Sit in a game and pay attention to the flow of the game and position, who are the aggressive ones, who are the passive ones, who is bluffing too much...You'll learn more from that than at a short handed game and probably end up less disadvantaged at a HU game (which favors the more experienced).Los

I fold preflop also.I know you figured bet it, maybe take the blinds. Short handed probably not, but short handed your gonna run into more blind battles anyway.Bet the flop, maybe steal it then if your opponent has no draw no pair. he calls, but what is he thinking about your hand? Do you have cards that paired the paint? Flush draw? Those actually might be his hands.Check the turn is where if you were gonna do that you may as well have folded preflop. Here you actually have draws to a fourth diamond, a third five or that ace. And if he put you on a flush draw thats a good spot to repre

egad. i go with the two bet because i know it will yield results, don't know that an option to three bet will even appear.we all know there are a ton of ways to play any given hand, and a few of those ways get you a pot. one gets you the most you could get for the pot you take, and one way loses you more than you had to lose. not being knowlegable of the game, I shoot for the middle.now i'm gonna go sit in my shame closet and think about what i've typed.Los

Well, yeah and niegh. I mean, trips are solid most times, but that board opens a lot of avenues for defeat if you slow play the trips. Not to mention that because that board is so scary getting an extra bet in now might be your best option because for one, you know you can get it in. You may not be able to check raise from the turn on in. The extra bet on the flop is almost garunteed. Bet/re-raising the flop is not always something you can plan on. Of the information gathered, we know he will bet the flop if no one represents, we do not know that he will raise if you open up strong (thus

i actually think check/raise because if you check CO will definitely bet it (as the leading raiser last action)....what i forsee if you check is that MP checks also, CO bets, you raise, now MP is once again looking at two bets to cold call, it might rush him out and leaving CO with a hand that either hit or has draws, and by hitting of course i'm thinking a pair of kings with a good kicker, pair of jacks with a good kicker, or four card str8/flush.getting two bets in now will help i think because it could make MP fold out what ever loose kinda pair drawing hand he holds. eliminates one threat

hehehe, keep doing what your doing.some child like card "players" throw tantrums at the preflop raise, especially in heads up because it disguises there opponents hands when they hold mediocre hands and don't know what to do with them.I remember one game I read about in CardPlayer, HE I think it might have been omaha or hold'em, the game doesn't matter. what matters is the opponents style of play was to raise every preflop. in fact it was pointed out that of 30 some hands, she only called or checked a few times. The reasoning here is that it defeats weak timid tight players in a game that can

well yeah actuary, you do, but you don't want to go from thinking they flopped a set to thinking they only flopped top pair, to thinking they are on the flush draw on the turn to thinking....know what i mean?

speaking of limit and spicing it up, making it more fun and worthwhile, find a lively table.one of my best times playing was at a local card club and was a 2/4 table actually. lively crew, i sat for 10 hours actually. not entirely that fun the whole time, but there was a moment for about 2 hours where it was a good time, thanks largly in part to the time honored straddle bet.there were a few guys at the table that straddled every blind for a couple of hours. pretty soon several people were following suit and soon after that for almost an entire hour you could not see a flop for less than a

I think more likely your against str8 draws or two pairs. I'm with check calling to the river, if the heat doesn't let up (multiple opponents raising) you can fold and look for later hands. I hate having big cards in the blinds in a limit game. NL is great you can usually walk away with a well placed bet preflop with a lot of limp in change...but in Limit, any and every hand will be in and you are stuck acting early with a pair that beats the board...how strong is that with several players still wanting to play at it though?I'm cooling my smoking guns and thinking that I'm against two pair

who is this dreamclown character? a random mysterious stranger or what?I would imagine he must be someone of note or why would DN plan for some sort of serious game with the dude. at the very least he must have some kind of bank roll, yeah?Los

hilo split tourney, top set multiway, wait for turn?
oceansize replied to Shimmering Wang's topic in Other Poker Cash Games
I'm not a well versed omaha player either, but I would say seeing the flop with that hand for bottom dollar is going to be worthwhile. This is normally a betting marathon of a game and many times you won't see flops for less than a capped bet. In those instances I wouldn't try to limp I would fold, but you have position and the table is letting you see cheap, so that doesn't hurt you. Call for the flop is good. Now you setted the flop and there is one hell of a nasty low looking at you. You must raise here. People are going to call it or fold it and if they stick around to try to catch you -
at this point you're more or less committed to see it through to the end. I'm guessing Button holds a high pocket pair or maybe a Jack with a better kicker, but if it's as loose as you say maybe he holds less.I see why you raise on the turn, your trying to get the cut off seat to let go, he might have some kinda straight draw (say KT, KQ, QT maybe..) but it doesn't look like anyone could have caught more than pairs or a three card str8 or flush draw from the flop, that six doesn't help anyone unless someone was going balls out with the three card flush draw and betting from the second or thir

here's another tip, the guy who called the type of game that hand, was also the dealer, was also the guy who's jamming the pot.we rarely choose games we don't know how to play. :-)

most authorities I have read agree with what was said. paint on fourth and you fold unless it gives you four to a flush. ideally you want four to a low straight or flush, but yeah. what they said about getting into scoop situations. I don't like the action on fourth, a fold there is what i would do. mostly because the fear of hitting your four flush or four low on fifth where it gets expensive and all of a sudden you've committed yourself to what can be a very long two card draw. can you justify seeing it all the way down from that point, of course. but you have lost any real chance to

Thank you both for your comments. I would say there are many other players on the site that are better apt for giving advice on stud as (while no slouch) I am not really that good at it. But I'll throw a few things out at you that I have picked up on.As far as the difference between tourney and ring games in stud, I find that I play primarily the same with an exception.Typically, in a ring game if you are dealt rolled up (dealt three of a kind as a starting hand) most people advise not betting at all until the expensive street. They say this because the hand is dealt so rarely and your impl

thanks guys. that was what I came to realize, the hand is good for pushing, but if you know you're up against a made hand (I was pretty sure of that from my flop bet/steal attempt with two callers the possibility was very good one had a queen) it's best left to muck it and forget it...especially in that situation.and note, yeah, it was more like 11000...my bad. -
Oh no, not in a good way. I realized this last night, and I thought I might share it with the class.I was leading the table with a dominating stack at my table late in a NL tournie. Blinds are 100/200, I have approximately 1100 and there are two tables of 6 players each left in a game that started with 42. And I stuck 3/4 of it in one fell swoop....I'm in the cutoff with 5 6 and do the small call into a loose passive table. Figure I'll hit or not hit or have a chance to steal as I have done most of the game. Flop reads:Q 8:club: : Q checks around to me, I bet out 600. two callers, i

check calling on the end was a good play, you played it well. trips is still got a chance for one end, though that ten snafued what was probably the best low draw...keep playing the way you are.

i think irregardless, your only checking this in hi/lo with trips or lo x, lo x 44 infront of you. in hi only, if you are tripped or have top pocket pair. you might want to bet it if you have two pair or less, and most of the time (assuming I'm acting first) I'll make the double bet, that is if you are going to play this hand.your action should depend on the action at the table. if this is one of my first hands at a new table (and i'm sure this is a mistake) i'm making a decision to either check or double bet. single bet doesn't enter in at all.
