In our home game (most of the guys take it pretty serious, but aren't near as good as they think) one guy always uses low denomination chips to bet when he is weak and big when he is stong.edit.No, I haven't told him and have even made jokes about when someone else does the same thing and he never has caught on.

I am trying to hang in there. Had the chip leader sitting right beside me for about the first hour. Guy was playing and hitting every thing so I had to stay out of his way.

Someone called a moderator to the table I was at the other day. Pretty much the same conversation went on. My response was much the same as yours. They seem to be more stress put on the fact you can block them rather than telling the offender to cool it.
