  1. I'm watching it because I was a big BSG fan. Not that much action yet (compared to BSG) but I'm interested to see what happens to Zoe-Bot. I'm not really sure what to make of the teacher character as in the first episode, I was sure she was some evil high priestess but from the second episode, who knows. Glad to see that they have Hookahs in the future.A lot of religious imagery in this show and the dialogue and some specific to Mormonism.
  2. Obama's statements obviously would be bad news for the big banks but the stock market is made up of many more companies than just the banks. The rumors about Big Ben perhaps not being reappointed hurt the market. Sean Udall of Minyanville puts a potential sell-off at 7%-25% if Big Ben goes bye bye. Ben is considered friendly for the stock market and any potential successor would be a big unknown.China's plans to tighten liquidity put a scare into the global markets as well. Another factor that contributed to the downturn last week. The market was due for a correction after this monster run-
  3. I think the SC got it right in terms of allowing corporations and unions to spend money as they see fit.Of course, we then get my local utility PG&E spending millions of dollars on the following ballot measure. They want to limit competition to keep their monopoly. Nice.A ballot measure, backed by Pacific Gas and Electric Co., that would limit the ability of California cities to go into the public power business has qualified for the June election, according to the secretary of state. The measure would force local governments that want to compete with PG&E to win the approval of two-t
  4. 2009 S&P Performance: 26+%2009 Nasdaq Performance 45+%My 401K did fine last year as opposed to 2008 under GWB. Does that mean that Obama's economic policies are better then GWB's?Well using stock market returns to determine whether or not the government's economic policies are working in a short time frame (e.g. one year let alone one week) is moronic.Barrons had a good article this past weekend on who should really be watching the execs of the major banks and surprise, it's the Board of Directors who are supposed to represent the shareholders. Well over the past decade, only Goldman Sac
  5. I actually thought of Eugene Victor Tooms so he could have squeezed his way into the UN, no need to take the place of that other guard.

    Haiti

Interesting post by Peter Beinart. There’s a reason President Obama’s response to catastrophe has been so much better than Bush’s. It helps to believe in the power of government to aid lives. Here’s something you’re not supposed to say: Barack Obama has responded to the earthquake in Haiti much better than George W. Bush responded to Hurricane Katrina or the Indian Ocean tsunami. Here’s something you’re really not supposed to say: He’s responded better because he’s a liberal. Liberals see responding to humanitarian disasters, including overseas, as a more fundamental responsibility of government
  7. Yeah - he's awful. I like the new look of CTU - of course, they'll still have a mole I'm sure.Don't really like the new look of Kim Glad to see that Chloe got a lot of face timeHey, it's the the host of Who wants to be a Millionaire!
  8. Wow..you're so....right about Clooney. I liked Michael Clayton and both Coen Movies. He was also good in the Ocean movies. I'm sure I'll like Up in the Air when I get around to that one. Then again, we both like Terminator and Survivor so a conservative and liberal can find common ground. Kum Ba Yah Time.
  9. Obama has listened and decided NOT to hold his state of the union during the premiere of Lost.+100

  12. We have it and have the three DVDs at a time option which works out well. Since we don't burn thru the movies too quickly, we don't get throttled so basically we get all the movies near the top of the queue. There was a point where we were watching a lot of DVDs per month and it did seem that we were getting throttled as it would take a long time to get any movies that had a long wait status. And as VB stated, they have added quite a few movies to the instant watch section so you can stream movies to your TV or computer depending on your internet access. As for the # of DVD's you should get at
  13. Saw 500 Days of Summer Last NightThis should be in Ron Mexico's queue statI thought it was great and Zooey Deschanel is adorable
  14. Happy B-Day Jon!Sight I didn't want to see yesterday: Taking my dog for a walk and down the block, I see a pit bull (no collar) strolling towards us (No human in sight). We took a 180 and went down another street. Another dog owner had told us about him but animal services has been unable to catch him so far.
  15. I don't remember Danielle eitherAmanda better have worked on her closing speech - it has cost her one and maybe two titles.
  16. So on New Years Eve, my brother/GF invite my family to go see Avatar at the IMAX theatre. Sounds good - so we head on over to Cupertino, but it's sold out. Hold on, it's still open at the Santa Clara theatre so we go over there just in time for it to be sold out.Saturday, I take the kids to go see it for the early showing in Cupertino - it's actually sold out all the way until Midnight this time so it's getting more popular, not less. We go to Santa Clara and same story. We end up seeing "Princess and the Frog" which was actually pretty good. Not Pixar good of course but still enjoyable.S
  17. Heh, it looks like it took GWB six days to respond to the Shoe Bomber, Richard Reid when he was on vacation during that terrorist attempt. And there were virtually no complaints from the Democrats or the Press that the response was sluggish or inadequate.Politico

  19. Very true - more like a working vacation. I still think that it's better to be in DC than in Crawford TX despite all the wonderful communication tools we have Today. If Obama spent 40%+ of his time in Chicago on working vacations, there would be quite a backlash I'm sure.
  20. I just had to look it upPrior to September 11, 2001, George W. Bush was on vacation for 96 days -- Given that he’d taken office on January 20th of 2001, that means that as of September 11th, he’d been ‘on the job’ for 234 days. If 96 of those were vacation days, he was on vacation 41% of the time.
  21. That's some good out of the box thinking right there - that and wearing something skanky to church. Well not so much the second part. Our church is pretty laid back but more skin is shown than in the past. Well, it's a good way to recruit more members!
  22. Well my Dad is over 80, he's pretty set in his ways
  23. I think that my parents felt that it was sort of blasphemous to visit their home on Christmas Eve/Christmas when there was a Buddha there (it has to do with praying or showing deference to false Gods ). They would have no problems on any other day visiting my brother's house (well maybe Easter).I'm not exactly sure what my brother's GF religion is. I do know that she and her family do follow some buddhist traditions and that it is important to her. This reminds me of a high school story. One of my buddies who turned out to be a strong Christian asked this girl to the homecoming dance. So,
