  1. You have to be careful with the odds that you've quoted after the flop. Remember that after the turn, more bets can be put into the pot which you have to consider post flop. On your examples, your post-flop calculations holds if no more bets are put in after the turn card. Before the river, your odds are fine.
  2. With 88, I'm concerned about a higher PP. Button-1 probably has Ax with x being a high card as I'd guess that he'd raise if he had a high PP to limit the field.UTG is the bigger concern but I'm down to 6x blind and it's time to make a stand and try to triple up. This is as good a time as any.
  3. You have to fight back; Sklansky in his book "hold-em poker for advanced players" has a section on heads-up play. He lists the starting hands for which it would make sense to play back at the raiser.
  4. I think it's a fold; someone could already have trips or two pair plus you probably have straight and flush draws to deal with as well. You lead the betting pre-flop; you have a solid image so BB must have something to bet the pot when he's first to act. EP1 is short stacked but he must have at least a draw.
  5. I would have gone all-in that point - I'm guessing that you might have only had one caller (maybe the BB) instead of two but that's in hindsight. If the flop had no spade draw, then you could have folded and kept your final $450 for a final shot, so I can understand your play. When I get that low though, I usually just pick a spot and try to isolate and double up; there's not much you can do. I think that the all-in would have had a better shot there only because you have a better chance of isolating one other player.
  6. There would be 3 bets in the pot pre-flop and then 4 bets after his bet. I would have raised him the pot (another 4 bets) after which he would probably have come over the top on you or just called so as to get more bets in after the turn and river. At this point, you could then try to evaluate his hand. He checked pre-flop so Aces would very hard to put him on. AJ, KJ, or QJ would be possible and they would all be better than your J7.I think that the all-in bet was too aggressive since you had a large stack at the time in comparison to the pot. Assuming that you had no read or info on the
  7. There is thru cardplayer; 100% bonus up to $500 and a freeroll into the satellite for the Bellagio super satellite. The reg code is CPNEWS. I've pasted the e-mail that I received from customer support below:"This is how the deposit bonus works: We match your initial cash deposit by adding the same amount into your account and it will be released to you (to put into play or to withdraw) as you play at Poker Mountain. Specifically, every one hundred hands that you play (with rake of $0.50 or more) will release $10 into your account. Each dollar that you pay in tournament fees will count as
  8. I like the bonus idea; maybe some freerolls just for fullcontact members would be a nice gestureMy first impressions of the site:1. No log-on or connectivity problems; easy to log on2. Customer Service was fast as I e-mailed a question to support at around 9:00 p.m. west coast time and got a response within 5 minutes. Nice detailed response too; not some automated response saying "we have received your msg.."3. I only have pokerstars to compare it too, but the graphics on poker mountain seem sort of weak to me. 4. Also, the tabs and hopping between scheduled tournaments, registered tour
  9. I used it and thought that it was useful. I bought the tournament version which included the WSOP structure. My impressions is that the real on-line players are much more aggressive than Wilson's software "players" but it at least gives you an idea of what online poker is like. I think that it's better than the "play money" tables for sure.If you can consistently "beat" the AI in the software, then it's a sign that you at least grasp some of the concepts in hold em poker.
  10. Just deposited some money there under the cardplayer promotion. I've logged in the last three nights but there is usually only one ring game with about a full table, a few other rings games with half a table and then no one on the SNGs.I actually want to start trying it out but haven't seen more than 50 players yet.
  11. Great guide; I found it very useful. Played some .25/.50 Omaha Hi/Lo last night on pokerstars and it was fun and profitable. It's a nice break from hold-em as there is quite a bit more action and it seems that there are always callers when you end up with the nuts.
  12. I've always liked the scene in Stripes where John Candy is abusing that poor kid in the poker game.
  13. I play quite a few rebuys on pokerstars - before the break, all-ins with nothing are common. Players are trying to double up and triple up any way they can and don't really care what their hands are.My favorite is on the first hand when someone says "All-in everyone" and then a bunch of players all pile-in and one lucky guy ends up with about 5x his starting pile and the other 4 rebuy. After the break when the rebuy phase is over, it becomes normal.Don't expect rational poker during the rebuy phase. The good thing about it is if you flop a monster; you can pretty much count on getting good a

  15. Let's see; you are putting up $1K at a chance to win $26K. How fast can I hit the call button. You were probably right in not trying to educate them..that would have resulted in an additional 10-20 hands of stimulating conversation.
  16. Don't think that they are currently offering a promotion; they have reload bonuses where they will match 20% - 25% of your deposit every so often. Last one was around the one billionth hand promotion. They are due for another one soon.
  17. You start with 2,500 in chips; blinds start at 10-20 and go up every 15 minutes. There are usually over 2,000 players in these tournaments as there are tons of satellites every day that lead into this tournament.I've played in two and most players seem to know what they are doing; not as many stupid plays as the low level tournaments. There's also a larger monthly tournament that replaces this weekly tournament (it was held last week); buy in goes up from $200+$15 to $500+$30.
  18. Awfully convenient that Tony happens to live about 5 minutes from the security company's address. so that he could get there in the nick of time. And considering the importance of Driscoll; how did she end up with a lame doctor who can't even get the correct allergy information on her daughter.Still, I enjoyed the episode; they have a lot of balls in the air and the Aisha character is someone that you want to see get her comeuppance.
  19. They should apolgize to Stollzmann - the 3% tip is mandatory, so $45K was taken out of his winnings as a tip. If he wants to tip more than that, that's his business. It's like a restaurant where sometimes if you have a large party, they will automatically add 15% as a mandatory tip. If you want to tip more, then great, but you are not expected to.
  20. Tournament term; depends on stack size, where the blinds are at, the player's own "definition".Simple example: You had a stack of $1,000; blinds are at $200/$400, you have already put $800 in the pot so you have $200 left. Pot is at $2,400 with two other players. Even if you don't think that you're going to win the hand, you're "pot committed" as folding is not an option at this point. So you call the last $200 and see it thru.If you're attempting to bluff or buy a pot, this becomes important as if the opposition considers themselves "pot committed", they won't fold their hand no matter w
  21. Looks like I'm one of the old fogies; 40 years old, married with 3 young daughters. Live in Los Gatos, California.I used to play a lot in high school and college; I can remember playing from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m...Didn't have time to play at a B&M but with online poker taking off, I've picked up poker again. There are a lot more books now than in the past!Action Dan is my idol; if he can make the final table of the WSOP at his age twice in the past few years, then anything is possible!

  23. You just got unlucky as he had no business being in the hand at all. After the flop, even if he thought that you were bluffing when you re-raised all-in, he didn't even have a hand that could beat a bluff. He hit one of his 4 outs. Just back luck.
  24. No, I think that I'm the one suffering from lack of sleep - I was in the SB and he was in the BB. You're right - he couldn't have been UTG.
  25. I was in a Pokerstars Rebuy yesterday in the BB with 7 4 suited.Five players call, so I just check as I get to see a free flop. UTG then raises all-in, two players call and I of course fold. UTG has a pretty good stack by the way as he had about 3x what we started out and we were only halfway thru the first hour.UTG has A 3 unsuited - flop is 7 7 4. I would have flopped a boat...happens to everybody but it's just a quick feeling of "ARRGH" -oh what might have been.Players were loose as were still in rebuy mode; could have tripled up. Just can't see why he would risk all his $ on a A 3 bluf
