Full Version: Proper Way Of Grinding Limit Hold'em

Now I know that it seems like an obvious answer. However, I do have several holes that I feel need to be answered. First I would like to know what is considered the top 10 poker hands. I know there are a few different things here and there that people disagree about like #9 and #10. Also, how do you determine how to play hands in certain positions. I understand you shouldn't break it down 100% to us, because it is almost impossible to break down. I would say the fold to call ratio on PPs lower then 10s and so on. Just quick guides that should be determined by position. Also, what limit online would be good to start at for grinding limit hold'em. I know the lower tables are easy money as well as bad situations because of all the loose players. What would be a good bankroll/limit to start at.

Please don't post in this forum, as stated CLEARLY in the stickies above.

I'm moving this to the LHE forum.

Good luck there.

you got a lot to learn smile.gif

i'de say there are two places you can start. if you are broke start playing stars .05/.10. you could start at .02/.04 but i think it would get discouraging to grind up from there. for .05/.10 you should have about a $30 bankroll if you are a winner. you are not going to be a winner right away. deposit $50. expect to lose some of it.

if you have some cash to toss around go to full tilt and get a rake back deal and play .25/.50. you should have about $150 to play in this game. i'de recommend you deposit the full $600 you need to get the deposit bonus. do try to resist the temptation to play higher limits though. and did i mention rake back? its very important.

to actually learn how to beat limit holdem the book that kinda gets tossed around as our bible is small stakes holdem by ed miller. it is not an easy book to get through so dont feel discouraged if after a lot of it you feel confused. after you read through the whole thing pick it up once or twice a week and just let it fall open somewhere and start reading for a little while. this combined with playing will make all the ideas in it start to click.

the great thing about those low limit games is that if you have a sound preflop strategy you will very likely win a little even if you sorta suck postflop. get pokertracker to keep records. dont multitable at first, concentrate on playing one table and all the players at that table. get a feel for each of them. try to guess their hands based on their previous hands and their current actions.

read this forum and post hands here. also check out twoplustwo.com. i dont like posting hands there but the place is a goldmine of poker strategy information.

have fun its just a game.

Let me ask a question in this thread. So I'm fully aware I'm not as good as most people who post here, but I like to at least try to help. I post what I would do in the hero's situation which may or may not be the best thing to do. I do this for two reasons:

1) Because I want to contribute something rather than just leeching.
2) Because sometimes people answer my posts and make me aware of some of my mistakes (or someday maybe will validate my post, meaning I've actually started to get decent at this game).

Should I post, or should I just shut up and let the smarter people post?
