If porpoise has a pair on 3rd, he's raising. Porpoise has made the occasional superdonk play like trying to push someone off an obviously made low when he himself only has ace-high. He hasnt done it enough for me to declare him an ultra-donk

Mikey1828, no read.

Fold on 3rd - that starting hand is worthless in Stud/8. And JJ doesn't necessarily raise on 3rd, but yes it's more likely that it's 3 to Broadway.

As played, the fold on 7th is standard. Mikey has most likely hit low so youre only playing for half anyway, and I can't see a 3-bet from porpoise with any hand you beat.

But please, please, fold that garbage starting hand on 3rd.

1. I didnt mean to say that if a player in his position MUST raise JJ all the time. What I posted was my read of him based off of previous hands. If he has a broadway pair or TT+ there, he puts in a raise there almost all the time.

2. FWIW, its possible that porpoise has a some random 9c 7d down and a Jc up being that I've seen him do the occasional superdonk play. I agree that 889 is a garbage hand in a full ring game, but we're a little shorter here. I'm hoping that the combination of the dead money i can get porpoise to put in as well as the shorter-handed justification is enough to play the 889 on 3rd street.

I realize that when I post strategy, I can come off as an arrogant ******* sometimes. I can't tell when it happens, so I'll just put a disclaimer here just to be safe. As I've said before and will say it again, I don't mean to offend anyone or talk down to them.

Re: #1, my apologizes, I misunderstood that part of your post.

#2: Hm - I wish I played with people who called with J97. I guess I give my opponents more credit than I should - but okay, let's go ahead and take as fact that read is good and 889 is playable here. Is there still a reason to raise instead of call? Even if 889 is ahead on 3rd, its a tough hand to improve on and can get us in a lot of trouble if we make 8899 against a disguised higher two pair. When you set you can take off running, but it's still a tough hand, so I think its -EV. Kinda like playing JQ in hold em - even if you hit you're more likely to lose money than make it.

I didn't think you came off as arrongant or were talking down - no apology necessary man.

you definitely have to fold third here. the reason you don't play stuff like 88x with no low possibility is that you get stuck in really bad spots later on in hands where you're getting sandwiched just like you did here. assuming you were the bring in and saw 4th for free, the rest of the hand is good.
