Bleh. I don't mind the beats and coolers as much as I despise the extended periods where you just raise preflop and have to fold the flop, or you flop a set and have to fold when the straight hits the turn. You end up leaking chips very quickly and there's nothing you can do. After a reasonable start, that's what my session has descended to. Long periods of not winning pots.

I have to post this hand: I played it *sooo* horribly, that after the river, I just started laughing uncontrollably (think of the "weed brownies, high stakes poker" Youtube video for a mental picture of my reaction to the river card).

Quick question Omaholics...

Is it generally not a good idea to play hold em' and omaha at the same time? Not generally at the same time, but for example I play for a couple hours on omaha then jump into a hold em' MTT... I've made money in Omaha but I'm in my worst slump for tourneys, haven't cashed in 16 straight..

It depends on the individual.

FWIW I don't usually have a problem transitioning between the two games if it's cash -> cash or tourney -> tourney, but going from PLO cash to NLHE tourney and back can take a little time to adjust.

I am getting owned by the ***BIGGEST FISH*** on stars right now. He's playing 93/9/0.7 through 42 hands. Calls *everything*, raises *only* when he has a *monster hand*...

...and yet he has taken me for $1,400 so far...

EDIT: He just took $500 off some one else. Man he is *luck*-owning this table
EDIT 2: He just busted a tight shark for $500.

i swear, this guy runs hotter than Mark!

Played ~800 hands of $50 plo. I much prefer that level to $25, for a number of reasons. Bigger pots, more players putting money in the middle, looser play in general.. $25 can be pretty nitty.

Is it even worth raising with aces in low limit omaha?

Aces have only won 3 times the past 10 hands I have been dealt them...

It depends on the rest of your raising range. If you're raising a wide range then raise aces almost every time. If you're not raising much preflop then limping is ok with trashier aces (AA72 rainbow for example).

A sample size of 10 isn't nearly enough to give any indication whatsoever of how well/badly you are playing AAxx, but I'm sure you realise that.

Oh I know that.... I just like to bitch and complain..

Generally i'm not very agressive pre-flop.. I raise my big hands and occasionally get clever with a modest hand, lol those are the ones that usually generate the most profit...

Here's a good example.. Just got Dealt Ad2dAc5c in EP... Didn't raise this time, straight cards fell on the flop, had to dump it to betting.. sigh.. at least i got away cheaply..
bdc30
That's one thing I'd like to get MORE aggressive with it raising preflop. What types of hands do you guys raise? I've got about 6k hands in this month, and my pfr is only around 6%. I think it should be higher at these games and limits. I'm running about 27/6/1.7 fwiw.
donk4life
I love raising with double suited connectors.. hmm those are delicious

Question... How do I get PokerEv to work.. or how do I load my hands on to it?
bdc30
PokerEV takes your hands directly from your pokertracker database - do you use PTO?
Pahud is another tool I've found greatly useful.

I know what you're saying about raising double suited connectors and such. Where I fall off is what to do when faced with either a re-pot, or on a whiffed flop. Usually I just check/fold, but I'm wondering if a little more wreckless aggression can get paid off enough to make it worthwhile.

Ahhhh it needs pokertracker.. i need to get that first and foremost..
simo_8ball
Sorry, I just feel an insatiable need to point this out -

Reckless means 'indifferent to or disregardful of consequences'.

Wreckless means 'without a wreck'.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will open raise with hands like AsJcTs5d (three high cards with a suited ace) in most positions, or with hands like 5689ss. If I'm against a LAG player (over about 15% PFR) I will also consider reraising these hands in position.
donk4life
LMAO..

Played for 3 hours today.. lost another 3 buy ins..

Only got 50 bucks left on AP... not enough to play any omaha..

Simply ridiculous.. 1 guy took 2 of the buy ins by calling with absolutely nothing on the flops and backdooring flushes each time.. Last time I am dealt KK1010ss hit the second nut flush on the river, he hits runner runner for the nut flush.. of course I go broke...
bdc30
One for bud&simo...
Normally I'm 4-tabling $25max, but last night I was 2-tabling $50 max. I find that accomplishes two things - one, I pay more attention to the table that I'm on and two - it holds my interest more, since the stakes are a little higher and I can pay closer attention with less tables on the go.
Does this way of thinking make any sense? What's the potential effect on rakeback and bonuses by playing this way - does it make any difference at all?
simo_8ball
You're far more likely to go broke playing 2 $50 tables than with 4 $25 tables.

I don't know how it will impact rakeback though.
bdc30
I'm not really "super" worried about going broke - I can reload fairly easily now.
Bud played at 25 for a bit with me the other day and noted how tight it was. I thought I'd give $50 a shot and quite enjoyed the looser action.
BudBundy
For tightness 25$ > $50 > $100.

100$ Plo is definitely a lot looser and full of more action than the other 2. But this doesn't mean games are easier. It is just more people in many pots playing more aggressively. at 50$ there is more flop action than 25$ and players are more like to pot and repot with hands which a 25$ plo player would call down to showdown.

If you bankroll allows , i think 2 tabling 50$ is better than 4 tabling 25$. While 4 tabling , it sorta becomes automatic.I don't think much about my decisions while 4 tabling. It is like i just know the standard play and do it. But while 2 tabling i put much more thought in every action. I get better reads on players and be able to make moves according to their betting patterns.

I was 4 tabling 25$ at first and I was quite profitable according to that stake. I ran +10BB for well over 25.000 hands. Then i moved up to 50$ only two tabling. Then i added one more. Then i moved up to 100$ only 2 tabling.

As you know PLO is a more complex game than Holdem so it is not easy to multitable it like we do in holdem.

I think 2 is enough for beginning. 3 is optimum for me but i believe 4 can be done with experience. +4 is beyond my imagination.
bdc30
I liked what you said about being able to think through plays more and make read based moves at the higher limit. I found that $25plo didn't suit my style. I'm at I think -3bb/100 through almost 6k hands at $25 this month. Granted, it's only 800 hands, but I felt so much more comfortable playing only two tables of $50 last night. None of my decisions were rushed, kept an eye on some players and what they were showing down, raising with, things of that nature. I think I'm gonna stick with it for now...see if I can clear the rest of my bonus, and try and keep on keepin on.

Hero raises to $0.85, 2 folds, Button raises to $2.9, 2 folds, Hero folds.

What are your PF stats according to PokerTracker (specifying 6-max or FR)? It seems like you're playing a little too loose to me as AJT5ss is probably only a playable hand for me from the button or the CO and I don't think it's a good reraising hand at all. 5689's fine though.
simo_8ball
I vary from ~20/8 to ~40/23 depending on the table/opponents. I tend to look for short tables though, so I'm often playing 3 or 4 handed.
iggymcfly
OK, that's a lot tighter than I expected and is almost exactly on par with what I do as I vary from 28/10 up to 39/21. Sounds like you're in good shape.
simo_8ball
Yeah, I'm not 3-betting AJT5ss every time from all positions, I just have no problem isolating a LAG in position with hands like it.

I shouldn't play a HU HORSE SNG while playing 2 tables of PLO. It makes me play bad. I nearly called the river. WTF am I doing checking that flop? That's worse than Bud's.
iggymcfly
LOL, I was trying to play some HU HORSE the other day trying to get a cash game started while playing 2 or 3 tables of PLO, and I'll agree that it's very distracting. Razz and LHE I can play fairly mechanically, but the other games take a lot of attention.
iggymcfly
And yeah, I C-bet quite a bit. 56% of the time when checked to according to PTO. HU on an uncoordinated board or HU against a TAP opponent, that can get pretty close to 100% though.

I had a fun night.

There were some hilarious hands in there. Might post some tomorrow. Other than a couple of daft calls I played pretty well, but there isn't much you can do in this game when the deck isn't cooperating.

Preflop is very close in that QQ hand.

Good fold tho.

Good fold tho.

I have position on Shelly1024, who also has a 2 buyin stack - this was my main reason for calling. Oh and paulie78 has a stack as well. I felt I could really win a huge pot if I hit a queen. This is why:
